Re: [Bug 257025] Re: mint 5 kde beta 045 installer crashes
Sorry mate but I have binned this dreadful version of what was a decent bit of software before it got hooked up to Kubuntu/Ubiquity. I have no intention of trying to install it again. The crash of PartMan completely trashed my hard disk, making it impossible to boot the previously installed version of Linux Mint 5 Gnome. This is in spite of the fact that I never made any choices when the Partition Manager had run. It showed my HDD as having no partitions, even though I knew there were three partitions (root, swap and home). I just cancelled the install at that point, but still found it had trashed the HDD. Using a live CD I found that fdisk could not even open /dev/sda and even qparted said no device found. Brightness control works before the OS is loaded. i.e. I can use the Fn keys to increase/decrease brightness at the bios screen before the OS loads. [Bug 241867] Re: Display brightness requires manual intervention
Yes, you're right. I just booted up in recovery mode and around the time the screen dimmed, I saw something about acpi video fly up the screen. Where are these boot time messages logged? After booting up, I have this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness levels: 100 57 0 14 28 43 57 71 86 100 current: 0 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ If I use the Fn keys to increase the brightness to 100, I get this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness levels: 100 57 0 14 28 43 57 71 86 100 current: 100 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ If I unplug the AC power, I get this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness levels: 100 57 0 14 28 43 57 71 86 100 current: 43 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ When I plug AC power back in, I get this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness levels: 100 57 0 14 28 43 57 71 86 100 current: 86 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ And when I unplug it again: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness levels: 100 57 0 14 28 43 57 71 86 100 current: 28 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ and plug it in: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness levels: 100 57 0 14 28 43 57 71 86 100 current: 71 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ So, you can see, it's incrementally decreasing every time I unplug AC. So, for me, there's two problems: 1. On boot, brightness is dimmed to 0 2. Unplugging AC repeatedly, incrementally decreases the display brightness. Each problem can be overcome by using the Fn keys after boot and plugging AC back in, but it's clearly not how it should work. Thanks for any help with this. [Bug 241867] [NEW] Display brightness requires manual intervention
Public bug reported: I first reported this as bug #214440, thinking it was gnome-power- manager related. It's not. The display automatically dims on boot when drivers are being loaded, before any Gnome stuff is introduced. Please see that bug for some log output. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power- manager/+bug/214440 I can control display brightness using the keyboard but the settings in Power Manager preferences, seem to be ignored. For example, when I unplug the AC power, the screen dims, but when I plug it back in again, the screen notifier shows the brightness increasing to about 90% (it is set to be 100% on AC power) but in fact the screen remains dimmed and does not actually increase. If I unplug the AC power again, the display brightness decreases and so on until after unplugging the AC power four times, the display brightness is at its lowest level and plugging in AC power makes no difference to the actual brightness. I can rectify this by using the FN-F11 keys. I'm running the latest Hardy updates on a Lenovo 3000 N100 Centrino Duo. I've attached some logs. This is not a recent problem but started occurring a few months ago. [Bug 214440] [NEW] Brightness only works using manual controls
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager I can control display brightness using the keyboard but the settings in Power Manager preferences, seem to be ignored. I'm running the latest Hardy updates on a Lenovo 3000 N100. I've attached some logs. This is not a recent problem but started occurring a few weeks ago. [Bug 211322] [NEW] network manager fails to find wireless network after suspend

[Bug 178491] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] spreadsheet editing email addresses
Hope this is the right place to add a comment. I am using openoffice 2.3 under simplymepis 7.0 - which i presume uses the ubuntu package. If I type an email address into a cell in Calc - it changes colour to blue with a grey background and then refuses to allow any editing. I cannot even highlet/select the cell!! It has also added the typed address into each cell as around 3-4 point when the column is clearly formatted for 12 point. Then when I try to print, it prints the whole page as 4 point which is unreadable!! This cannot be changed anywhere - it makes Calc UNUSABLE for any file that has email addresses in it. OK - a possible quick workaround for this bug. Hover mouse over the cell with an email address in it and RIGHT click. If you are lucky you will get a Default Formatting option. [Bug 159368] network connection stops
Public bug reported: For the last two days, my network connection has been stopping randomly. The gnome network manager shows the wireless is connected and the router and other PCs in the house can browse the web fine. The Gutsy laptop can't ping to anywhere or browse the web. If I reboot the laptop, the connection comes back. When the network is dead, if I right-click on the nm-applet and stop networking and then start it again, I can browse the web again. I don't think it's losing the connection to my router as my connection to the router *appears* to be OK according to nm-applet. However, I can't blame it on the router as other PCs are networking OK. I did this and now my settings of LCD Display 1280x800 have been remembered. However, the location field is blank, which doesn't seem right. So it has worked, but I shouldn't have had to go through all of the above to finally save and remember settings I manually selected. Auto- detect didn't help at all. I'm very willing to help debug this if necessary. Hello, I was installing an OS on VMware at the time and wasn't using or calling tracker as far as I know. There was a lot of disk activity and I just figured that trackerd found the load too heavy. [Bug 147691] (Gutsy) Must click on the Desktop to see Gnome panels after logging in

[Bug 137738] Re: [gutsy] suspend / hibernate works fine, but after resume, I get a Failed to suspend popup
I get this message now after moving from Feisty to Gutsy. Didn't get it before. Similar problems on a Lenovo 3000 N100 0768FPG. I can only set my brightness correctly with: cat $level /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness and then entering a number between 0 and 100. [Bug 140892] Usplash appears to break suspend/hibernate
Public bug reported: When using Usplash on Ubuntu Feisty (Lenovo 3000 N100), Usplash works well but it breaks suspend and hibernate. When I uninstall Usplash, suspend and hibernate work fine. When Usplash is installed and I suspend or hibernate, the machine goes into suspend/hibernate but when it wakes, GDM appears to hang. I can't change to console mode and have to hard reboot using the power switch. This is similar to previous bugs reported but also occurs when coming out of suspend, not just hibernate. If there are logs I can include, please let me know which ones you want. [Bug 140892] Re: Usplash appears to break suspend/hibernate
OK. I've figured out why this was happening. If I remove the vga= option from the /boot/grub/menu.lst, usplash works fine and so does suspend and hibernate. It seems that passing that option to grub is not necessary and was breaking suspend and hibernate (on wake up).
