[Bug 310867] Re: After several hibernating the weather next to the system clock won't work anymore

Sorry, I don't know if that's still an issue in Jaunty, but I will tell
it, when it will be released. I also stopped using hibernation, so I
don't even know if this bug still exists.

[Bug 326516] [NEW] After login $HOME/.dmrc permission error window appears

2009-02-07 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

After login I have this message: User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being
ignored. This prevents the default sessin and language from being saved.
File should be owne dby user and have 644 permissions. User's $HOME
directory must be owned by user and not writable by other users.

Altough, the rights of my .dmrc file seems to be correct. If I rename
this file, and no more exists, the error message still appears, and
still the same.

$ ls -la .dmrc
-rw-r--r-- 1 myname myname 28 2009-02-03 11:05 .dmrc

I have found some solution here:
http://mihirknows.blogspot.com/2008/06/homedmrc-file-is-being-ignored-solved.html
But I don't want to chmod -R all my files. Earlier this bug appeared in barely
every distribution, and I used the solution linked, but then the rights of the
files were corrupt. Any other solution? Anyway, what causes this bug?

[Bug 317819] Re: Evolution shows false unread messages in folder

2009-01-20 Thread launcspad
My pleasure. I was using POP3, and I can not test, what you advised any
more. But I remember that the false number was equal to the fresh
downloaded and by filter trashed mails' number. So this number has
always changed, when I recieved 34 mails, which have been moved to the
trash by the filter, the false number was 34. Next time when only 7
mails hit the filter, 7 was the number.

Unfortunatelly I stopped using Evolution, as it cannot handle huge
mailboxes. I have mails more than 2,5 GB, and the indexing slows down
the program.

[Bug 316032] Re: Power saving: screen gets darker unwanted

2009-01-12 Thread launcspad
The button was unselected. (I'm not a newcomer.)

And the way, the screen was darken, was not the same like selecting this
option. It has got dark slowly, and after a while it was light again.
This happened only when I used battery, the bug does not appear using power
cable. After a reboot the screen starts light, that's why I think, this is not
a hardware error.
Does the brightness of the screen have a variable to follow up its state?

[Bug 316032] [NEW] Power saving: screen gets darker unwanted

2009-01-11 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

Something is wrong with the power saving function: it fades the screen
and it gets darker when using the Compaq nx6310 laptop with battery. I
switched off this function in the power saving management. But I think,
this module causes the bug. I barely can start it
(System-Preferences-Power saving) when clicking on its icon. It takes
a while when its window popups after clicking on it. And once I checked
an option to let be dark the screen, it suddendly became light.
Unfortunately this happened only once, I couldn't reproduce it, but the
screen still gets dark, and then after a while light again. Intrepid

I followed the steps. On https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace at
Generation/3 the system crashed as well, so I couldn't ctrl-c it and
even the ctrl-alt-F1 did not work. But the output file was saved, I

Reading this file I know what causes the problem by now: my Logitech webcam.
This time no scanner was attached to my system.
Unplugging the webcam, the program works fine: it says, no device could be

[Bug 315450] [NEW] nm-applet confused when trying to connect more internet

2009-01-09 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

The network manager applet will be confused when I try to connect more
than one way to the internet. See attached file: both eth0 (LAN) and
HSDPA modem (USB) are active, but no internet: the phoning program

I know, it is unusual having more internet connections, but in this case
at least one should work. However I was suspected speed enhancement.

What you can see and read on the attached image:

- the popup menu from nm-applet tray icon (left click on it with the mouse)

[Bug 314831] [NEW] Network manager unable to save several settings

2009-01-07 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

This bug is partly a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284298

A friend of me just changed to Ubuntu. Her Windows freezed and then she
started to use the secondary OS which was installed on her computer (by
me). Ibex 8.10.

Her DHCP settings aren't automatic, she has to set it manually. (I
described her how and it was succesful.) But the changes weren't saved,
next time she had to enter the numbers again. I advised her the
workaround described in the link on the top.

My problem is that I cannot switch off the wireless network: when I
restart the computer it will be activated again. I remember it worked
fine in 7.10, 8.04. (The current network manager version is 0.7.0.)

I use mobile HSDPA network. I always have to enter the keyring password.
Anyway does somebody know how this keyring-thing works? I don't want to
enter the password every time. In evolution there was a time when
without asking the default keyring password it has been worked fine, but
now it also asks for the pass.

The very last bug report for today about nm is that another friend of me
wanted to start using Ubuntu. I installed it. She is using HSDPA mobile
internet in Hungary, T-Mobile network, and Web'n'walk USB stick. But
this stick is not recognised by the system. Here is a not-very-
international discussion about this problem:
http://ubuntu.hu/forum/hardverek/t-mobile-webnwalk-stick-t-mobil-
internet-710-re-hogyan

But I didn't have the time to solve it, so she still uses Vista. I tried
my Huaweii E220 and it has been working fine! But one more bug report:

The default entries are wrong for Vodafone Hungary. The username and
password are 'vodafone' and not 'vodawap'.

[Bug 310867] [NEW] After several hibernating the weather next to the system clock won't work anymore

2008-12-23 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

See the attached image. The left weather icon is correct, it was added
to the panel with the right button.

The right one shows an earlier state, this is part of the system clock.

The left one needed a manual refresh to work well, without this it
showed -- . The right one cannot be refreshed manually.

After 3 or 4 hibernating this error occurs.

[Bug 306612] [NEW] Changing the style in OpenOffice Writer won't effect the text

2008-12-09 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

I recently changed from MS-Office where when I changed a style properties it
affected all the paragraphs written in this style. But in OpenOffice it does
not work.
For example if I have a text in Arial and change its style to a style, which
uses Times, after the changing the font type remains Arial. (But the
indentation changes well.)

[Bug 305163] [NEW] Evolution crashes when opening a HTML attachment of a huge HTML mail

2008-12-04 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

To remake the problem, try this. (Evolution 2.24.2, Ubuntu 8.10.)

1. Compose a new html mail and insert a huge text. (I tried with the inserted
one here, see below.)
2. Add html atachments. (I tried with the attached ones, with all, no archived,
just the pure files.)
3. Send the mail.
4. Try to open the attachment in the sent mail. Evolution just closes.

[Bug 301249] [NEW] gedit freezes when opening big text file

2008-11-23 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

When I try to open it with gedit, it starts and becomes gray, the hdd is
working only. Does it perhaps analyse the WHOLE file for the encoding?

[Bug 295964] [NEW] Only the upper half of the webcam's picture is shown in Ekiga

2008-11-09 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

Ekiga 2.0.12, Intrepid Ibex. With video plugin V4L2 only the half of the
picture is shown -- see attached picture. With plugin V4L it is not
working, error message popups. (Choosing plugin in EditSettingsVideo
tools. I'm not sure, the same word can be found in the English
version, at settings window it is the last item on the left side.)

Anyway, I found a newer version of Ekiga, which was not included in
Gnome and Ibex. I couldn't compile it. Is there a .deb package to
install it?

[Bug 292594] Re: the user interface is not displayed while it seems to be downloading

2008-11-05 Thread launcspad
Where shall I comment? Here or at gnome.org?

I'm pretty sure, the problem is about indexing huge mailboxes. Renaming
~/.evolution solves the problem: GUI appears as normal. I think, the
indexer blocks the application window somehow.

[Bug 292594] Re: the user interface is not displayed while it seems to be downloading

2008-11-05 Thread launcspad
Yes, it is indexer bug.

After starting, two file will be modified:
Inbox.ibex.index
Inbox.ibex.index.data

Removing them won't solve the problem.

Renaming Inbox solves the problem: appwindow appears.

At first run the program asked if I want to upgrade to the new indexer
(or there were a dialog box of the new indexer), and it started
indexing. At second run it didn't show the window.

OK, i opened it there too.

UPDATE: It is not a POP-problem, I switched off the POP feature in my

indexing system. I have 1,5 + 1 GB mails in two folders perhaps the new
indexer cannot handle so huge amount.

[Bug 292594] [NEW] Evolution does starts hidden, without GUI

2008-11-02 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 and I get the brand new Evolution. When I start it,
it remains hidden. Perhaps because of the 1 GB mail I started to POP-download.
(Before I started POP-ping, it worked fine.)
When I run it from terminal, it says:

[Bug 262561] [NEW] Skype freezes system when starting video

2008-08-29 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

Skype 2.0.0.72, Ubuntu 8.04 always updated, Logitech webcam.

When I start voice conversation with a partner who doesn't have webcam,
and I try to send my video, the system freezes totally. Only the cursor
moves when I move the mouse and our voice conversation is just fine. But
the windows and the keyboard are not responding, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace
doesn't work. The only thing is the Microsoft-solution: reset the
computer.

I don't like Skype as it's not open that's why I'm planning to use
Ekiga. (Or is there a better service?) But I think, even if it's not an
open source application, shouldnt freeze a system.

[Bug 255625] [NEW] Unable to set up PPPoE ADSL with Hardy using Network Manager applet

2008-08-07 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

I made my friends to use Ubuntu instead of Windows. I rid away that
disgusting operation system and installed Ubuntu 8.04 from their
official posted CD. After that I tried to connet to the Internet via
ADSL modem using the Network Manager. I entered the correct username and
password. It tryed to connect (I saw a red and a green rotating point
instead of the two black screens in the top right corner) but nothing
happened. No error messages, no Internet. No IP address given.

Then I booted from Puppy Linux live CD, and the connection was very
easy. They use now this live CD but I'm not statisfied with this
solution. Puppy uses a script for setting up DSL. Does such a script
exist for Ubuntu as well?

I think this is not a firefox-bug as more online softwer have this
error. (Such Pidgin, Evolution.)

Skype, Hálózatfigyelő (network usage icon) and Weather forecast in
the panel-add-on menu recognizes if I'm online.

In my network manager icon I always see an orange triangle with ! in
the middle, independet of I'm connected or not.

I use Hungarian Vodafone HSDPA with Huaweii E220 USB modem, Ubuntu 8.04
and Firefox 3.

[Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.

2008-07-15 Thread launcspad
Firefox 3 AND Evolution AND Pidgin starts offline. No, Pidgin is looking
for a connection. What I have to do is to disconnect and connect again
(Pidgin). At Firefox (and Evolution) the File - uncheck Work offline
solves the problem.

Firefox 2 did not have this problem.

I use HSDPA USB modem. When connected via LAN, no problem, everything is
online.

Skype recognizes the Internet correctly independent of the connection
type. (Altough I don't like this program.)

Sorry, I'm not patient enough to flick trough the whole conversation. If
someone has a quick solution, please show me!

[Bug 228162] [NEW] Totem freezed my computer so that I had to remove the battery

2008-05-08 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

I tried to play a DRM encrypted WMA music file with Totem Media Player
and it freezed the computer. The keyboard didn't work only the mouse. I
couldn't even change to terminal with Ctrl-Alt-F1. Then I pushed the
power button first shortly (it is set up to turn off the comuter) and
then long to turn off radically. The wentillator did not stop and the
power led was still on. I had to remove the battery to fix the problem.
