[Bug 791766] [NEW] Atheros WLAN AR5212 does not connect to hidden wifi network

2011-06-02 Thread lophiomys
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wpasupplicant

Kubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwal - all updates including ppa, KDE 4.6.3
Linux T42pUXGA 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:50 UTC 2011
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Thinkpad T42p with WLAN card Atheros Communications Inc. AR5212
802.11abg NIC (rev 01)

Problem:
No connection to hidden wireless network with WPA2 PSK AES

Wireless network name and passphrase entered via Plasma widget
in TaskBar (Network Management Settings) have been double checked for
correctness.

This should just work, as it did in previous Kubuntu versions.

[Bug 442683] Re: Upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 - could not install the upgrades

2009-10-08 Thread lophiomys
Confirmed
on a Thinkpad T42p running Kubuntu 9.04 with all updates.
The Network Upgrade just stops after downloading with a non-helpful error
message.
The remedy command dpkg --configure -a does not help.
KPackageManager displays now about 480 upgradable packages and 350 blocked
packages!

partition and installed Kubuntu 9.04 Beta from CD. Thereafter all Updates with

[Bug 224876] Re: Hardy does not control the CPU fan properly.

2008-05-23 Thread lophiomys
You might be right.
For my T42p the fan activity has reduced after the recent OS updates for Hardy.
The average idle temp has gone down from 42C to 37C after the OS updates
and the fan activity has reduced to the levels experienced with Gutsy.

[Bug 224876] Re: Hardy does not control the CPU fan properly.

2008-05-23 Thread lophiomys
My last post was not quite correct.
The T42p system is cool but the fan is blowing cold air at 3600rpm (approx.
level 4)
I just didn't hear the fan at the beginning.
Seems to be a similar problem, despite the different hardware.

[Bug 211932] Re: KNetworkManager dialup menu expands to thin empty box

2008-05-22 Thread lophiomys
Confirmed on lastest Kubuntu Hardy, with all updates to date.
I have set up two KPPP connections:
a) as root via KNetworkmanager - context menu - Options - Configure - Dial-up
Connections - ...
b) as user directly via KPPP
None of the two show up in the sub-menu of Dial-up Connections in the context
menu of KNetworkManager.
That's why I would confirm this as a real bug.

[Bug 193907] Re: kppp does not set KDE network status to online

2008-05-22 Thread lophiomys
Confirmed on Kubuntu Hardy, all updates up to 22.May.2008, KDE 3.5.9
Linux T42p 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Reproduced with a working UMTS connection using a Huawei E220 USB Modem,
connected via KPPP ( ttyUSB0 - PPP0)

Using KPPP (via KNetworkmanager-Dial Up Connection or via directly opening KPPP)
the Huawei modem connects sucessfully, activating interface PPP0,
but KNetworkManager and Konqueror do not reflect the active connection.
KNetworkManager shows the disconnected status.
Only FireFox 3.0 Beta5 connects to the Internet after DEactivating Offline
Mode.

Seems to be related to or a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/191889

[Bug 224876] Re: Hardy does not control the CPU fan properly.

My subjective perception is, that Hardy causes more fan activity than Gutsy.
I have experienced this on 2x Thinkpad T42p 2373-KYG with
Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron LTS installed.
Sorry, I momentarily dont have the time to investigate in depth.

IMHO this is a bug. And it reduces the usability of the KDE GUI.

I want to emphasize that I did not play with fancy user defined colors.
I just changed to the predefined color scheme DarkBlue, and then
a few things become unreadable. To me it's as simple as that and very
unpleasant.

Not to speak of the problems with Konqueror not coping with the
dark color scheme, displaying webpages with black text on dark blue background,
etc.

Technically it is possible to calculate a constrast value between foreground
and
background. Using this value the Graphical User Interface KDE could switch the
foreground color to a more contrasting color automaticly. Even if it should not
be looking beautiful, it would be grant readability.

[Bug 12519] Re: Removing modular bay drive causes system freeze

2008-05-06 Thread lophiomys
Confirmed with Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron, all updates
on a Thinkpad T42p 2373
Hotswapping Ultrabay devices (PATA HDD and DVD-RAM) was working perfectly
under Gutsy
and is now totally locking and freezing the computer. Only resetting with the
power button helps.
This is SHOWSTOPPER for Hardy very annoying indeet.
I vonlunteer to help out testing a fix.

[Bug 157467] Re: Laptop suspends when power cord is pulled

2007-11-18 Thread lophiomys
I can confirm this behaviour on my Thinkpad T42p 2373-KYG
with Kubunutu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.

uname -a
Linux ThinkpadT42p 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

Very annoying. Every 5th time after pulling the power cable, the system
trys to suspend or hibernate and hangs on a black screen. To recover I had to
press the
power button until the system reboots.

[Bug 163392] ACPI: Error installing bay notify handler - Thinkpad T42p

2007-11-17 Thread lophiomys
Public bug reported:

Thinkpad T42p 2373-KYG Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon, All Updates

uname -a

...
Something is wrong with the hot-swap bay notify handler for the Thinkpad
Ultrabay Slim.
The two ACPI drivers seem not to cooperate well.
Auto-mount doesn't work, when inserting a PATA IDE HDD in the UltraBay .

Manually mounting / unmounting and then simply pulling out the HDD from the
hotswap Ultrabay
was working so far without data loss. (Manual hdparm -Y didn't effectively
switch of HDD.)

[Bug 50039] Re: [Data Loss] KMail mysteriously changes messages to No Subject, Unknown sender

2007-08-24 Thread lophiomys
I can confirm this bug in KMail / Kontact 1.2.5 / KDE 3.5.7:
Messages get lost by clicking on them in the list and turn to zombies with
Unknown sender, No Subject, and a date of 1970-1-1.
There are about 2000+ messages in the list and I did not do anything special to
the list of messages. Just deleted a few.
Data loss seems to be permanent, restarting Kontakt does not help.

[Bug 131590] Re: Color Scheme not properly applied in Konqueror and KSystemLog

2007-08-23 Thread lophiomys
I found a cumbersome workaround for Konqueror:
under View-Configure Backround set BLACK (menu item only visible in File View
mode)
and under Settings-Configure Konqueror- Appearance - Set normal text color -
WHITE

For KSystemLog the colors are always wrong.

** Description changed:

- Kubuntu 7.04, Feisty Fawn, KDE 3.5.6
+ Kubuntu 7.04, Feisty Fawn, KDE 3.5.6 and KDE 3.5.7
+ also Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Tribe 3
+
When setting a color scheme with white text on dark background,
e.g. DarkBlue, the list view display in Konqueror and KSystemLog
are unreadalbe, because of the alternate line colors and text color
do not match the color scheme, i.e. the text color is still black.

  How to reproduce it:
  - Set DarkBlue color scheme in System Settings Appearence Colors
  - Konqueror in File View View View Mode Detailed List View
  - or simply open KSystemLog

Besides; The contrast slider in System Settings Appearence Colors
has no effect on the colors in these these list views.

+ kde-hal-device-manger does show correct (and readable) colors in its list
view,
+ also the standard KDE File Open Dialog shows the correct colors in list
view.

[Bug 88377] Re: Suspend to disk fails: image_size too small

2007-08-18 Thread lophiomys
I can confirm this bug on a Thinkpad T42p 2373-KYG
on Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, uname -r: 2.6.20-16-386; with ATI driver 8.38.7
(installed via Envy)

Reducing the image_size does make supend-to-disk work.

But after resuming form supsend-to-disk, the sound is gone and it seems to me
that the available RAM is not used any more: I mean the systems starts swapping
earlier
compared to RAM/Swap usage after a fresh reboot.
