It seems the issue has gotten worse in intrepid. each time i try to resume from ram i just get a black screen on return. I disabled the nvidia driver in jockey and that seems to be what fixed the fan problem. but now I am not sure what driver i am using for the nvidia card. /etc/X11/xorg.conf
