1080p mkv file with one audio track and one subtitle track. Video and
sound play fine, but no subtitles. VLC plays the subtitles, but doesn't
have as good of performance as Totem, so I would prefer to be able to
use that.

Totem won't
The file is a 1080p movie, 11 gigs in size. I wouldn't be able to attach
it here? If there's a way I could extract the subtitle file from the
.mkv I could attach that, is that possible/helpful?

Totem won't play subtitles in this .mkv file. They are there, VLC plays them.
Could this be filed as a papercut?

The default icon for Pidgin has a green circle when you are online, a
blue clock when you are idle, and a yellow message icon when an unread

Until this gets fixed, here's a workaround for Xubuntu. If someone could
write up an equivalent for Ubuntu that'd be dandy.
- Go to Settings - Sessions and Startup - Application Autostart tab
- Click the Add button.
- Enter whatever Name and Description you want.
- For command enter:
/bin/bash
I can confirm the same thing on Xubuntu 11.10:
raevol@jabberwock:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10
raevol@jabberwock:~$ apt-cache policy indicator-sound

Using Xubuntu 10.04 and totem 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 installed via synaptic the
subtitles for the file I was observing this issue on before play just
fine. The new version of the package in Lucid seems to have fixed the
issue. I don't currently have a Maverick install, so I can't verify
there...
Hope

I have 100% repro of this issue immediately after switching conversation

jump to 100% cpu usage in top and in conky. Please contact me if

This is fixed for me in saucy as of updates today, at least following my
steps above using Pidgin. Will comment again if I see it elsewhere. If
anyone else had repro for libreoffice and can verify a fix

As of updates today the bug is back, using the same repro of switching
conversation tabs in Pidgin. I don't know if it was a fluke before that
I saw it as fixed, but it's definitely back now.
