[Bug 1242142] [NEW] aptitude-create-state-bundle stopps if user home encrypted not mounted

2013-10-19 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

Hi there.

aptitude-create-state-bundle --print-inputs
/home/$USER/.aptitude
/var/lib/aptitude
/var/lib/apt
/var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin
/var/cache/apt/srcpkgcache.bin
/etc/apt
/var/lib/dpkg/status

but since i chrooted and have home not mounted it goes

# aptitude-create-state-bundle aptitude-state-bundle.tar.gz
tar: .//home/$USER/.aptitude: Kann stat nicht ausführen: Datei oder Verzeichnis
nicht gefunden
tar: Beende mit Fehlerstatus aufgrund vorheriger Fehler

it should have an option which files/folders to exclude from bundle
(replaced actual user folder name by $USER).

Thanks for all effort everyone!

[Bug 221363] Re: Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX

2008-11-08 Thread schnollk
For SSH sessions I'd like to add that the error still persists here.
Nastyly it's happening for me on a laptop with broken display that I use
as a server (no graphical login). So I'm -- among others -- not able
to add users or change time.

While reading here I couldn't find a solution that would let me use
users-admin without a display, i.e. graphilcal login?

Just now I noticed this message while fireing up users-admin sudoed:

** (users-admin:26835): CRITICAL **: Unable to lookup session
information for process '26835'

Cheers!

[Bug 48547] Re: hotkey support for fujitsu siemens amilo m7400 laptop

2008-11-02 Thread schnollk
Even after an upgrade to/fresh install of intrepid hotkeys other than
the main ones, i.e. mute, suspend, volume, don't work. Even though amilo
M 7400 is a fairly old notebook it's still very usable and smooth to
use. It's a pitty to see this bug still persists. I'll add some
additional info below with hope for someone with more insights has a few
minutes to spare to implement this. I'm happily willing to test if
needed!

Kernel driver reported to work but seamingly unmaintained:
http://www.cakey.de/acerhk/ (package acerhk-source)

debianforum.de (in english) on Amilo M 7400, section The multimedia
buttons, with keycodes
http://wiki.debianforum.de/DebianGNULinuxOnFujitsuSiemensAmiloM7400. The
only thing, it seams, I don't know how to do, yet, is what to do with
package acerhk-source to be able to use hotkey-setup. Thus thankfull for
hints so I can test and report back!

[Bug 159690] Re: g-brief/beispiel.tex does not work

2008-07-14 Thread schnollk
Confirming this bug and workaround suggested by Thomas Hirsch. Will
alter affected packages to texlive-fonts-recommended and texlive-latex-
extra (e.g. see [1] for a complete hardy package list containing
g-brief) because of that.

Additional information:

- dragging this bug along for a long while (at least one year now)
coming from windows miktex system, but never has been a problem so far
besides the hassle of always getting the error message.

- another workaround is to comment out line 48 of /usr/share/texmf-
texlive/tex/latex/marvosym/marvosym.sty or better even change the
command definition from \Telefon to \Telef (or any better undefined
name). This would have to be reflected in acording documentation, of
course; this is the command used by end users in actual .tex documents.
Regardless of that \mvchr{48} should be possible to use anywhere.

Cheers.

[Bug 159690] Re: g-brief/beispiel.tex does not work

2008-07-14 Thread schnollk
Well, maybe I misunderstand the package concept of launchpad. I didn't
manage to change this bug's affecting packages as intended above.
Anyway, the Ubuntu repos packages that are affected as far as I see it
are

1. texlive-fonts-recommended (marvosym.sty)
2. texlive-latex-extra (g-brief)

Cheers.

one year without any official comment on why flock hasn't been added

disappointed. There are even people offering packaging help if mentored!

Can anyone with Ubuntu inside knowledge comment on this, please? I'd
like to know if there has been discussion and if so what Ubuntu users
ought to expect in the near future about how and when/why not flock will
be seen in Ubuntu's official repos.

[Bug 154839] Re: in system monitor's preferences the refresh rate value is not saved when changed by key

2008-07-04 Thread schnollk
Same here, still (also up-to-date Hardy)

To make it clear: If you use arrow-up and arrow-down keys, though, it
does work. Only if you delete or highlight the number that is to be
changed and press any number diffent to the current one and close the
dialog (either by clicking Close or with Alt+C) the change is not
saved. I also tried moving the focus out of the edit field before
closing by hitting tab to no avail.

I was going to add a video with XVidCap but it crashed on me. Istanbul
takes ages to save the capture to disk, i.e. wouldn't finish saving
for some reason, so sorry for that.

[Bug 245014] [NEW] Disabling Initiate Window Move in Move Window plugin problem

2008-07-02 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

Don't know if this belongs to CompizConfig Manager package or Compiz or
even some other package.

What happens when in CompizConfig Settings Manager (ccsm) I select to
disable Initiate Window Move mouse button with every right click I get
the window manager menu (maximize, minimize, ...). Button1 didn't work
properly, too.

I had to disable visual effects via Appearance preferences dialog and
reenable them after changing the initiate value. One cannot even disable
the plugin once this value has been disabled.

Workaround is to use some orcward keys like AltSuperShiftButton1
if you need AltButton1 combination for something else (like I did for
Gimp move selection rectangle).

[Bug 244191] [NEW] 'BadColor (invalid Colormap parameter)'

2008-06-30 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

error occured after selecting an area to record. xvidcap crashed with
the following message:

##
The program 'xvidcap' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadColor (invalid Colormap parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 20174 error_code 12 request_code 91 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
##
which I did but still got the same message (don't know what to do with
gdk_x_error(), though).

Cheers.

[Bug 244204] [NEW] ppm2mpeg.sh: command not found and other encoding problems

2008-06-30 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xvidcap

System is the same as in #244191

after installing from repos encoding command cannot be found in path.
It's located in /usr/share/xvidcap/. If I manually prefix the encoding
command by this path the script seams to be found and run.

But the next error occuring is:
of xvidcap's output files ffmpeg only supports png, ppm, and pnm.
can't encode the input files you're providing, sorry.

which I cannot handle. I would expect xvidcap to run without user
intervention out of the box. While installing from repos I didn't see
errors/warnings I would relate to this.

Cheers.

same here only on Hardy. I get this with flash plugin audio in browsers

[Bug 123916] Re: fail2ban will not start if fail2ban socket is present

2008-05-17 Thread schnollk
Confirmed (using stop rm -r start and also using reload). After
creating

$ sudo mkdir /var/run/fail2ban

as suggested it works.

Very annoying is that fail2ban does not seam to be very talkative
(except when log level 4 -- 3 is default -- AND everything going well;
failure - not even anything in log!) and nothing to shell (except when
reloading insted of stop start):

*
$ sudo /etc/init.d/fail2ban stop
## from fail2ban.log:

$ sudo rm -r /var/run/fail2ban

$ sudo /etc/init.d/fail2ban start
## note: not even does it say nothing but this returns 0!
## nothing in fail2ban.log

$ sudo ls -l /var/run/fail2ban

$ sudo mkdir /var/run/fail2ban

$ sudo /etc/init.d/fail2ban start

$ time sudo /etc/init.d/fail2ban restart

# At first I laught at it and thought funny people, confirming by
# saying 'fail!' as if to say 'Let's kick ass' refering to package
name :)

real0m30.744s

And even normal start-up, well:

I just noticed while skimming /etc/init.d/fail2ban that line 204 reads
'0) log_success_msg $NAME is running ;;' but

$ egrep 'is .* running'  /var/log/fail2ban.log; echo $?
1

but don't have any more time to find why it's never called...

commenting out flowid :1 in the last line seams to do the job here as
well. Not only does wondershaper run through it also seams to traffic
shape on a first glimpse.

Thanks, Michael R. Head and doff for sharing the workaround.

[Bug 44] Re: Translations should be searchable

2007-11-10 Thread schnollk
Please see for yourself: It seams to work with normal translation
projects but doesn't work for e.g. evolution with google site search:

http://www.google.com/search?q=site:https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/gutsy/%2Bsource
/update-notifier/%2Bpots/update-
notifier/de/%2Btranslate+datentr%C3%A4gernum=100ie=utf-8oe=utf-8

Note the url of the second hit, it ends with start=10.

Unfortunatelly, it doesn't work for translations.edge.launchpad.net:

http://www.google.com/search?num=100hl=enq=site%3Ahttps%3A%2F%2Ftranslations.edge.launchpad.net%2Fubuntu%2Fgutsy%2F%2Bsource%2Fevolution%2F%2Bpots%2Fevolution-2.12%2Fde%2F%2BtranslatebtnG=Search

Nevertheless I'd really apprechiate a feature to be able to search
translation strings of a project. The way it is now it's no fun at all
to help translate projects and spred them to other languages.

Cheers.

[Bug 129910] Re: tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy

2007-11-04 Thread schnollk
Bug confirmed on fresh 7.10 final installation

$ uname -sr
Linux 2.6.22-14-generic
$ lspci | grep 'VGA'
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02)

but can neither confirme John Yate's fix nor loading it manually.

Black ttys untill gdm comes up on tty7.
~$ lsmod | grep fbcon
~$
~$ sudo modprobe fbcon
~$ lsmod | grep fbcon
fbcon 41760 0
tileblit3584 1 fbcon
font9344 1 fbcon
bitblit 6912 1 fbcon

still no change. kernel boot options in menu.lst:
root=UUID=... ro splash vga=791

Only work around is removing vga= option gives back ttys as desired. But
vga= is needed to show usplash from right after grub passes control.

Note: Had issues with initramfs not showing usplash (see Bug #157620).
Solutions involves update-usplash-theme (i.e. update-initramfs) if that
helps.

[Bug 157620] Re: boot-time usplash does not show regardless of usplash.conf

2007-11-03 Thread schnollk
I found out that Ubuntu's install must have gotten something wrong in the
initramfs. What I did was the following to get usplash nicely shown from right
after grub menu exits:
1) sudo gedit /etc/usplash.conf to read:
# Usplash configuration file
xres=1024
yres=768
2) sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst and change the default line
# defoptions=splash quiet
to read
# defoptions=splash vga=791
(or leave 'quiet' if you wish)
3) sudo update-grub
4) sudo update-usplash-theme usplash-theme-ubuntu

I first left out steps 2 3 and didn't have usplash right after grub
passed control but rather had for a couple of seconds some scrolling
text (as it's normal if you change to tty1 at boot with Ctrl+F1) until
the font changes to a more contrast shape.

There seam to be many people having trouble with this very issue on
Gutsy (google on update-usplash gutsy).

Cheers.

[Bug 157620] boot-time usplash does not show regardless of usplash.conf

2007-10-26 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

There is a diskussion on ubuntuforums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3642216

In short: When laptop display only mode (no external monitor) screen
stays black. However, when booting with external monitor everything
looks fine. usplash.conf tested with a) 1280x1024 and b) 1024x768. The
later would show usplash at shutdown correctly in laptop mode which is
missing, too, with a). a) was the default after I freshly installed
gutsy today.

I'll attach dmesg for laptop mode with b)

[Bug 154839] in system monitor's preferences the refresh rate value is not saved when changed by key

2007-10-20 Thread schnollk

On the other hand if I change it via mouse (up/down arrows) the change

I have made videos of the szenario but since I reckon there are people
getting those attachments via slow email connections is there a way to
add this info without them being send by email? I don't have publically
accessable webspace where the videos could reside for a while.

[Bug 151680] [Gutsy] In CompizConfig Settings Manager when editing Key Bindings for Application Switcher and Shift Switcher Plugins some jump back to default (can not be changed effektively)

2007-10-11 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

What I want to achieve for key bindinigs (Actions tab) is this: In
Application Switcher Plugin I want Next and Prev Window disabled and
those for (All Windows) taking over with AltTab and AltShiftTab
resp. Though, if I disable Next Window it will show Disabled for a short
while [sec] and than collapse the General Tree. If I fan it back out
again it's back to the defaults (no changes). No display error either
since keys function as shown.

Similar if I set the default for Next to Next (All Windows) the conflict
dialog pops up. I hit Disable Next: Same thing, tree collapse and back
to defaults.

Also, when I try to disable Next (All Windows) it's the same thing:
Collapse, no changes taken place.

Similar things happen in Plugin Shift Switcher. E.g. disabling Next and
Prev (single viewport) will lead to the same collapse/no changes
behaviour as above.

I will add screen videos.

[Bug 148290] Re: [Gutsy] Logitec diNovo (USB BT) doesn't work at gdm level after boot any more

2007-10-04 Thread schnollk
A workaround so you don't have to remove bluez-utils is to
~$ sudo rm -f /etc/rc2.d/S25bluetooth
This will not run bluetooth services automatically at boot time. Do
~$ sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth start
if you need bluetooth and then unplug the dongle, wait 2 sec and plug it back
in again.

If you wish to start bluetooth at boot time again do
sudo ln -s /etc/init.d/bluetooth /etc/rc2.d/S25bluetooth

[Bug 148290] Re: [Gutsy] Logitec diNovo (USB BT) doesn't work at gdm level after boot any more

2007-10-03 Thread schnollk
After a reboot with dongle pluged in all the whle, again no diNovo at (gdm)
login prompt. Output now:
~$ hcitool dev
Devices:

$ hid2hci
Switching device 046d:c70c to HCI mode failed (No such file or directory)

Bus 004 Device 003: ID 046d:c70b Logitech, Inc.
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 046d:0b02 Logitech, Inc.

Then I took out the dongle and plugged it back in. diNovo worked with output
now:
$ hcitool dev
Devices:
$ hid2hci
Switching device 046d:c70b to HCI mode failed (No such file or directory)
Switching device 046d:c70c to HCI mode failed (No such file or directory)

Bus 004 Device 006: ID 046d:0b02 Logitech, Inc.

Right now it's a minor issue to me but nevertheless I hope it can be
fixed. Don't hisitate to ask for more information.

[Bug 148290] Re: [Gutsy] Logitec diNovo (USB BT) doesn't work at gdm level after boot any more

2007-10-03 Thread schnollk
as suggested here

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez-
utils/+bug/96036/comments/5

I have now removed bluez-utils (version 3.19-0ubuntu2 by the way) and
will see what happens next time I reboot.

PS. After I reinstalled bluez-utils to find out the package version
(only after that I noticed an aptitude show | grep Version would have
done) I noticed that right after starting bluetooth services the mouse
cursor stopped responding (I had been moving it around the whole time):

$ sudo aptitude remove bluez-utils+
[schnipp]
The following NEW packages will be installed:

^right here the cursor stopped moving.

Is there a way to start the bluetooth services in debug mode, something
like /etc/init.d/bluetooth start-debug?

[Bug 148290] [Gutsy] Logitec diNovo (USB BT) doesn't work at gdm level after boot any more

2007-10-02 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

after upgrade on Sept. 30th (to Gutsy beta?) I noticed the diNovo set
not working. I only found out after unplugging the dongle and plugging
it back in again and diNovo worked again. I gave no further notice. But
today as I booted my computer diNovo didn't work at gdm level for login
again (it did work at grub level though). Again a work around was to
unplug the dongle and plug it back in again. The desktop set (keyboard,
mouse and keypad) worked well all the while untill Sunday.

Unfortunatelly I don't have a lsusb output of when diNovo doesn't work.
I hopefully will not forget it at my next boot.

Or tell me how to do so / point me to some docs.

[Bug 140422] Re: [Gutsy] Unable to connect to WPA2 if the AP was previously using WPA

2007-09-27 Thread schnollk
confirmed.

previously success connecting via WPA. Now, when I switch from WPA
(TKIP) to WPA2 (CCMP) on my router (AVM FRITZ!Box) network-manager
wouldn't connect any longer. Also, signal strength goes down to zero
(shown by Network Monitor applet). When I run the router in mixed mode
(both WPA WPA2) network-manager will only connect with WPA(1).

TKIP - CCMP. Output from iwevent:
22:58:12.25 wlan0New Access Point/Cell address:Not-Associated
22:58:33.244050 wlan0Set Encryption key:off
22:58:37.007310 wlan0Set Mode:Managed

CCMP - TKIP (switched back). iwevent reports New Access Point/Cell and
Network Monitor applet showes good signal strength. But only after sudo
/etc/dbus-1/event.d/25NetworkManager restart will network-manager
reconnect via wlan0.

On CCMP iwlist scan reports:
IE: IEEE 802.11i/WPA2 Version 1
Group Cipher : TKIP
Pairwise Ciphers (1) : TKIP
Authentication Suites (1) : PSK

and on TKIP iwlist scan reports:
IE: WPA Version 1
Group Cipher : WEP-40
Pairwise Ciphers (1) : WEP-40
Authentication Suites (1) : PSK

Searching for wireless in gconf-editor wouldn't show any results so I couldn't
test the above.

[Bug 140669] numberous crashes with hardinfo when selecting things

2007-09-18 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hardinfo

Whan I start hardinfo and than in the GUI select various items on the left it
crashes on many. Two different behaviours I can distiguish:
1. crash on first select right after start of program
2. crash after a couple of other selections

For the first behaviour I can reproduce those:
1. Summary
2. Display

For the second one I noticed that hardinfo crashed on every second
selection: E.g. if I go down the liste on the left first select
Operating System and when finished displaying select Kernel Modules
hardinfo seg-faults. If I restart, select Kernel Modules and after
that Boots, same thing. I tested it with every item in branch
Computer.

The next thing I have noticed is when I have selected an item on the
left and wait a little without any action there are crashes, too.

I'll attach core dumps for the Display and Summery bit and a third one
for the first selection sequence (Operating System + Kernel
Modules).

Cheers.

[Bug 140611] Re: terminal window opens up either too wide or too small, then text is not visible

2007-09-18 Thread schnollk
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 140540 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/140540

After the current upgrade update-manager suggested to me a couple of
hours ago I had similar problems. I also noticed that the Apearance
dialog failed to open (Gutsy here). Look how neat the terminal window
was... After I set the dpi back to 96 it worked perfekt again for me.
Also, the Appearance dialog came back up again.

[Bug 138677] update-manager Failed to lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock on Gutsy

2007-09-10 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

After log-in update-manager tells me there are updates, not all can be
processed at once but suggests a partial update. I click it, than there
comes a warning that one package has to be removed in order to solve
dependencies, I acknowledge. Than update-manager exits with the above
error massage. I attached apt.log as the only updated logfile in
/var/log/dist-update.

Another thing I observe is when I log out and go to a non-graphic log-
in, i.e. Ctrl-Alt-F1, and run e.g. aptitude there are no lock problems.

Cheers

2007-09-10 Thread schnollk
... maybe it was just me being too unpationed as right now the update is
running smoothly. So it might just be a matter of priventing the user
from starting the update while stuff in the background is still running
and locking the apt-system?

My 2 cent.
Cheers.

[Bug 130782] Re: apport-gtk crashed with IOError in _read_gzip_header()

similar here, crashed while reporting another bug. apport-gtk came up
while doing an upgrade to gutsy. I just can't figure out if the system
info, bug relevant files, etc. have been submittet or how I could do
that (other than do it completely manually). So please ask if you need
anything (and what).

Cheers.

[Bug 118745] Re: Font sizes in Gutsy are affected by bad X.org DPI detection

2007-09-09 Thread schnollk
After an upgrade to Gutsy just a few hours ago I have almost the same
setup as fhucho does only I have smaller looking fonts as before with
Feisty. When I go - System - Prefs - Appearance - Fonts all font
sizes are set to 9. If I put them to 10 or 11 it looks much better.
Unfortunatelly I haven't tweaked fonts in Feisty so I cannot remember
what sizes Feisty had.

Hope this helps.
Cheers.

[Bug 138298] davfs2 dpkg-reconfigure script seams to write group into /etc/davfs2/davfs2.conf incorrectly

2007-09-08 Thread schnollk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: davfs2

First of all thanks for packaging at all!

After installation I got errors after trying to mount a mount point as normal
user after I had run dpkg-reconfigure davfs2 and choosing a non existent user
group davfs2. I than added the user to that group and added a line to fstab
as suggested by man mount.davfs. The following error occurred after I did (as
normal user):
$mount /home/bjorn/mnt/HTGpage/
/sbin/mount.davfs: User bjorn must be member of group root.

In my /etc/davfs2/davfs2.conf I found: dav_group $group

My guess is in some dpkg-reconfigure script there is a couple to many '
(single quotes) because after I manually changed $group to davfs2 (the
name I chose for the group) the error vanished.

Next error I get is when trying to mount:
$ mount mnt/HTGpage/
cp: cannot stat `/usr/share/doc/davfs2/davfs2.conf.template': No such file or
directory

After I did:
:/usr/share/doc/davfs2$ ll

$sudo gzip -d examples/davfs2.conf.template.gz
$sudo ln examples/davfs2.conf.template

cp doesn't complain anymore.

After that mounting actually works but only with the following output:
/sbin/mount.davfs: Connection failed, mounting anyway. File system will only
be usable when connection comes up.

This last bit, though, might be due to misconfiguration. I'm not sure
yet.

Cheers.

[Bug 106786] Re: vcd not mounting properly

2007-09-07 Thread schnollk
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 43589 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/43589

Hi all.

just a side note for cdfs. The latest source code is version 2.6.19 (see
http://trappist.elis.ugent.be/~mronsse/cdfs/download/) but the ubuntu
source package cdfs-src in the repository is versioned 2.6.18 if I know
the deb versioning right (filename pool/universe/c/cdfs-src/cdfs-
src_2.4.20.a+2.6.18-1_all.deb). As I'm new to src debs, buildings debs
and all that (besides using binary debs) if someone can point me to how
to package I'd be happy to help updating. Or should I contact Ubuntu
MOTU Developers about it?

Cheers.

[Bug 127263] Re: update-manager cannot find meta-release info

2007-09-07 Thread schnollk
I'd like to report what happend here[1]:

1. procedure as suggested a
href=https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GutsyGibbon/Tribe5#head-81cc88734ebf046f2eea75748ddc33707ae6cc4d;in
 ubuntu wiki/a
2. needed the touch cli
3. new release showed up for one but coulnd't carry out the upgrade right away
4. next time I ran update-manager -d option was gone
5. variouse touches and update-manager -d's didn't help (sudoed or not)
6. finally a came around to rm ~/.update-manager-core/meta-release
7. now the option showes up every time update-manager is called without sudo.
If I do sudo updat... it wouldn't show up.

Unfortunatelly I didn't capture the meta-release file... Hope this helps
never the less. Let me know soon if you need more since I'd like to
update in the next couple of days.

Cheers.
