It seems like disable power management of wlan will solve this problem.

You can try to disable the power management of your wlan by running the
following command.
sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

[Bug 761991] Re: ICEauthority can't be updated on nfs home directory

2011-06-03 Thread sun
I'm experiencing it the same way as with the original post. Every second login
the user gets the error.
Whatever I tried so far by changing the exports on the server or modifying the
mount on the client didn't solve the issue.

On Server, /etc/exports:
/export 192.168.42.0/24(rw,fsid=0,no_root_squash,sync,insecure,subtree_check)
/export/home
192.168.42.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,sync,insecure,subtree_check,nohide)
/export/home/users
192.168.42.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,sync,insecure,subtree_check,nohide)
/export/home/groups
192.168.42.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,sync,insecure,subtree_check,nohide)

On the Client, /etc/fstab:
myserver:/home /homenfs rw 0 2

On the Client, mount provides me as output:
myserver:/home on /home type nfs
(rw,vers=4,addr=192.168.42.202,clientaddr=192.168.42.204)

My Server is running Lucid LTS (10.04) and was upgraded a while ago from Hardy
LTS.
The Client is a fresh install running Natty (11.04)

The client configuration I did copy fom a Intrepid (8.10) which for
years connected to the Hard/Lucid server without any issue.

[Bug 778544] [NEW] Line wrap issue in JTextArea since Java 1.6.0_16

2011-05-06 Thread Lareina Sun
Public bug reported:

In the versions above Java 1.6.0_16 a line was wrapped in JTextArea at
the (# of column - 1) character. For example, I declared a JTextArea by
40 rows and 80 columns; it wrapped a line at 79th character other than
80th character. It behaved correctly in the versions older than Java
1.6.0_16. This issue still exists in Java 1.6.0_25. I have to declare a
JTextArea by one more column (40 x 81) to show a text which actually has
40 rows and 80 columns.

iptraf -u doesn't show it either.

[Bug 769326] [NEW] xpdf additional language support not fully working

2011-04-22 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xpdf

I know that the xpdf-chinese-simplified package was removed since
xpdf 3.02-9, but the problem is that now some Chinese pdf files
can't be viewed under my current system, though I do can view the
other Chinese pdf files.

Here is the console error output when viewing those that xpdf can't
view:

 Error: Unknown character collection 'Adobe-GB1'
Error: Couldn't find 'UniGB-UCS2-H' CMap file for 'Adobe-GB1' collection
Error: Unknown CMap 'UniGB-UCS2-H' for character collection 'Adobe-GB1'
 . . .
 Error: Unknown font tag 'F6'
 Error: Unknown font tag 'F8'
 Error: Unknown font tag 'F11'
 Error: Unknown font tag 'F8'
 Error: Unknown font tag 'F8'
 . . .

I don't know if the problem is due to that some Chinese pdf files
have Chinese fonts embedded and some others not, but I do see that
the Language Support Packages, including xpdf-chinese-simplified,
are still listed in the current xpdf home page,
http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html

The error-triggering pdf sample file can be downloaded from
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=10;filename=ITIL-V3.pdf;att=1;bug=623728

Please do further investigations.

Thanks

The same file views fine under Debian Squeeze using xpdf + cmap-adobe-cns1
cmap-adobe-gb1 + poppler-data,
and I tried the combination of xpdf-reader + cmap-adobe-cns1 cmap-adobe-gb1 +
poppler-data before as well under Ubuntu Maverick, but didn't work.

[Bug 588858] Re: Add optional support of indicator applet

2011-04-18 Thread Sun Ning
Currently I still have a problem on trayicon. According to Ubuntu
SoundMenu wiki, trayicon should be disabled when soundmenu item
registered. And when soundmenu activate, window_close should behavior as
hide.

However, this cannot be archived by a plugin. I tried to modified the
xl.gui.main.controller.trayicon at runtime, but it's very difficult to
archive the full functionality. I think I need some help from upstream.
The right behavior should be: click 'X' to hide window when tray icon is
also disabled.

Just for the archive, the problem is more than just a stop command --
the

/etc/init.d/networking restart

is not merely stop and start. restart let you keep you current ssh

[Bug 552578] Re: ubuntu, gmplayer not in mplayer package as reported

2011-02-02 Thread Tong Sun
@Benjamin Drung,

Nope, The bug has nothing to do with command-not-found. it should be in
mplayer-gui, which is where it belonged before.

A bit of background:

From, Anybody know what happened to gmplayer in Maverick?
http://askubuntu.com/questions/5041/anybody-know-what-happened-to-gmplayer-in-maverick

My long-term media player (for various reasons) has been gmplayer. A simple
floating UI that remembered its fullscreen layout and just worked for me. I'm
not trying to convert anybody but please respect that I'm not looking for
alternatives.

It used to live in a package called mplayer-gui. Since upgrading to
Maverick, I can't find it anywhere.

Apparently an Ubuntu-sent changelog says I should use SMplayer instead
but as anybody who has used both will tell you immediately, they're
completely different styles of media player.

I'm not against progress but I can't see anything but regression here.

mplayer-gui has been removed in maverick because it is broken
upstream. It doesn't even build with a shared avcodec ATM.

Had the same issue, but it appears to be resolved upstream: it builds
fine since yesterday. :)

answered Oct 3 '10 at 22:48

So, PLEASE, put gmplayer back in Maverick.

Thanks!

[Bug 710181] [NEW] No proper default for locale-gen

2011-01-30 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am having a hard time trying to configure my system locales. In
Debian, I just need to update /etc/locale.gen and do locale-gen, and I'm
done. However I found such tactics no longer works under Ubuntu.

So I did some search, and followed the
Locale - Community Ubuntu Documentation
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Locale

However, that didn't get me anywhere either:. . .

Long story short, the issue really bog down to that Unbuntu doesn't have a
proper default for locale-gen. Ref:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/localeconf/+question/130696

locale-gen --purge should do the job.

Oh, yep. That works like a charm.

In Debian, the purge is by default, which really makes sense -- e.g.,
when I list 5 locales as my locales, I want that 5, and don't want any
legacies get into my way. When I remove locales from the config file, I
want them to be removed from the system locales as well.

Hope that can be fixed in the future.

Thanks

Yes, I was hoping to avoid downloading an iso I'd never heard of.

Yep, me neither. But it's OK for this case, 'cause we are only using it in a
guest on the virtual machine.

It will be helpful if you can reproduce this bug with a more common iso.

Problem is, the bug is especially regards Norton Ghost, the most well-known,
and widely-used disk cloning tools for windows. Check out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norton_Ghost

My question about 32-bit and 64-bit maverick was in a guest, not on the
 host.

Ok, now I know what you meant.

Actually, we are not even there yet.

Please do the following.

- create a brand new kvm disk image,

kvm-img create -f qcow hda 6G

- without doing anything else, try to boot Norton Ghost from within kvm:

kvm -hda hda -cdrom /path/to/Hiren.BootCD.8.6.iso -boot d

and see if you can boot into Norton Ghost yourself.

Thanks

Can you try booting both 32-bit and 64-boot Ubuntu maverick or Fedora
installs? Complete the installation and make sure you can reboot - the
fact that the cd successfully boots is not sufficient.

Sorry you lost me. I was talking about booting Norton Ghost CD from kvm from
within Ubuntu maverick.

PS, my Ubuntu maverick was installed from Ubuntu maverick CD and is
rebootable.

Thanks

[Bug 706706] [NEW] Can't use Norton Ghost under Ubuntu KVM

2011-01-23 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

Hi,

I can't use Norton Ghost under Ubuntu KVM, whereas the same version of
kvm under Debian launches Norton Ghost just fine.

Info of kvm under Debian:

$ dpkg -l | grep kvm

$ cat /etc/issue
Debian GNU/Linux squeeze/sid \n \l

$ uname -rm

Info of kvm under Ubuntu:

 0.12.5+noroms-0ubuntu7 0

(I've just upgraded it to the latest version and tried again, same
problem)

The symptom is while kvm was lauching NG, it failed, and rebooted all
over again. I've tried many times and I've also tried both Norton Ghost
2003 and Norton Ghost 8.3. Same symptom.

Actual command used is,

kvm -m 1024 -smp 2 -usbdevice tablet -hda hda -cdrom /path/to
/NortonGhost-Version.iso -boot d

The same command, using the same hda cdrom, works just fine under
Debian.

Please investigate

Thanks

PS. if you don't have a Norton Ghost iso file, you can try
Hiren.BootCD.8.6.iso. Works the same.

[Bug 688377] [NEW] cannot access /dev/dsp: No such file or directory

2010-12-09 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: oss-compat

oss-compat is meant for preventing common /dev/dsp not found errors.

In Debian, installing oss-compat alone will make sure I can use the
/dev/dsp OSS compatibility device as normal. However, I found that it
doesn't work under Ubuntu.

Moreover, I just did a

apt-get install --reinstall alsa-utils alsa-oss alsa-base linux-sound-

Furthermore, I can't even enable the device manually:

[Bug 667292] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick - VFAT usb drives mount with root access only

2010-10-27 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Exactly as what happens in Ubuntu 10.04, VFAT usb drives mount with root access
only,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/573981

same thing happens to Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick now.

The workaround in above bug report doesn't apply to me -- I don't have
usbmount installed.

Tech details is the same as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/573981/comments/13

when I mount the vfat manually with very specific read and write
permissions for my user id, everything are still mounted as root:root

Following the examples from
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MountingWindowsPartitions

This is what I get:

$ ls -ld /mnt/usbpen
drwxr-xr-x 2 tong tong 4096 2010-08-06 18:36 /mnt/usbpen

$ sudo mount -t vfat -o defaults,user,exec,uid=1000,gid=100,umask=000
/dev/sdc1 /mnt/usbpen

$ ls -ld /mnt/usbpen
drwx-- 5 root root 4096 1969-12-31 19:00 /mnt/usbpen

$ sudo ls -l /mnt/usbpen
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 22 2010-09-12 00:15 file1.txt
. . .

The same mount command have always been working fine under Debian.

[Bug 575730] Re: im-switch tells me to install a non-existant package

2010-10-26 Thread Sun Wukong
I run into the same problem.

The real name of the required package is plasma-widget-kimpanel-backend-ibus
(note the plaSMA instead of plasam)
The point is that this package is actually installed in my system, but
im-switch claims it is not. Is it looking for a wrong package name or is
plasma-widget-kimpanel-backend-ibus badly installed/configured ?

I run Kubuntu 10.04 32bits.

[Bug 663352] [NEW] No way to stop/start networking without network management

2010-10-19 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Converted from question to bug, from
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-nettool/+question/130070

I want to remove all network management related packages and keep only a
dhcp client (preferably pump). In plain Debian, I just need to properly
config /etc/network/interfaces, then

 /etc/init.d/networking restart

Vola, I'm done. But there is no way in Ubuntu to stop/start networking.

/etc/init.d/networking restart
 * Reconfiguring network interfaces...
Operation failed.
^
ssh stop/waiting
ssh start/running, process 19500
 [ OK ]

At some previous moments, it was working before, and I cannot bring the
networking to a full stop then start again.

Reposting comments from other bug reports, because I'm still getting the
same results in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick.

=== From https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/430883

. . . There is no way to stop/start a [networking] service:

r...@quimerix:~# status networking
networking stop/waiting
r...@quimerix:~# start networking
networking stop/waiting
r...@quimerix:~# stop networking
stop: Unknown instance:
r...@quimerix:~# stop networking
stop: Unknown instance:
r...@quimerix:~# start networking
networking stop/waiting

?

And the old but working /etc/init.d says

r...@quimerix:~# /etc/init.d/networking start
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service networking start

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start networking
networking stop/waiting

So explain me how its supossed that i can restart a [networking]
service?

=== From https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netbase/+bug/492160

. . . I cannot start my network:

$sudo service networking restart
restart: Unknown instance

$sudo service networking start
networking stop/waiting

$sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

(ifconfig does not show eth0 interface)

$ping www.google.com
ping: unknown host www.google.com

$sudo ifup eth0
(ping works)

Bottom line: No configuration will automatically start the network--I
have to manually run ifup to get the network to start.

Are you sure?

bug #207869, is all about removal of duplicate songs, and package
rhythmbox; whereas this is ubuntu networking? Seems entirely different
things to me.

What's your justification concluding this is a duplicate of bug #207869?

[Bug 662160] Re: No sound in 2nd X, VT8

2010-10-18 Thread Tong Sun

OK, I understand it is invalid for pulseaudio, but marking it pulseaudio for
the whole bug report doesn't make sense at all.

After all, whatever the bug is,

- it breaks the old behavior
- it prevents two simultaneous xorg sessions to both have sound.

So please pass on the bucket if you don't want to deal it yourself --
reassign it to whatever package that you think is the cause.

Thanks

Actually I totally agree it is not a PulseAudio bug -- check my first
sentence in first respond -- I understand it is invalid for
pulseaudio.

All I'm asking is someone please reassign this bug report, just as what
Fabio Marconi did on 2010-10-17. It is not carved in stone, isn't it?
Because as a users, I have no clue which package is responsible for:

1. PolicyKit (which enforces udev acl)
2. the installer (which adds your user to the appropriate groups via another
utility)

thanks

BTW, it is not a appropriate groups issue, the 2nd xorg sessions was
opened by root, and still no sound.

[Bug 662160] [NEW] No sound in 2nd X, VT8

2010-10-17 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Background:

Before Ubuntu/gnome/gdm uses pulseaudio, I was able to have sounds from
two xorg sessions simultaneously in both VT7 and VT8.

Environment:

Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick,
GDM uses pulseaudio,
sound plays fine.

Symptom:

However, when I start a 2nd X in vt8 ( startx -- :1), there is no sound.
There is no glide control in the top volume control icon when it is
clicked, but only the preference option, which is when clicked, will
produce an error message, something like can't connect to sound server
or something.

[Bug 662463] [NEW] dnscache-run does not work out of box

2010-10-17 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dnscache-run

Hi,

The dnscache-run package can run out of box in Debian, but not in
Ubuntu. Here is my trial log:

After installation, do some preliminary tests:

 $ cat /etc/resolv.conf
 # nameserver 192.168.0.1
 nameserver 127.0.0.1

 $ cat /etc/dnscache/env/IP
 127.0.0.1

Yes, so far so good.

Verify svscan is running. Do not proceed until it does:

 $ ps ax | grep [s]vscan

Here is where Ubuntu fails. The above command gives no output; whereas
in Debian, it should output:

 $ ps ax | grep [s]vscan
  8040 ?Ss 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/svscanboot
  8042 ?S 0:00 svscan /etc/service

I think the problem has something to do with the post installation
script.

Please investigate.

Thanks

[Bug 662469] [NEW] start hostname: hostname stop/waiting

2010-10-17 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Hi,

How to change hostname permanently without a reboot?

I've changed my /etc/hostname /etc/hosts, and want the system to reflect that.
In pure Debian, a /etc/init.d/hostname start will do, but in Ubuntu:

% /etc/init.d/hostname start
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service hostname start

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start hostname

[Bug 661489] [NEW] scripted ubuntu HD installation

2010-10-15 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I don't want to go through the GUI each time that I install Ubuntu.

So I hope Ubuntu can allow me to do a scripted HD installation, because
all the answers that I give to GUI will be the same except for the
partition that I'm going to install Ubuntu into. All it take is a config
file, and the the partition given as the command line parameter.

I know Ubuntu is more geared toward newbies, but that shouldn't stop
Ubuntu from providing power tools for more advanced users.

2010-10-12 Thread Sunner Sun
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 634702 ***

Yes, the latest updated kernel () does not fix this problem. But the
intel_idle.max_cstate=0 solution mentioned in bug #634702 works. So I
mark them duplicated.

Although the two bugs have different description, I think they are the
same inside. Since if we doesn't touch the keyboard and mouse during
boot, the system will always hang.

2010-10-12 Thread Tong Sun
Ok, I admit this is my first taste of Ubuntu, and I rely on those
howtos floating on the Interent to help me.

I thought people won't post something that wouldn't work and claim it is
working, and it turns out that I'm wrong. This is what I get to hold
those howtos as holly bibles.

I have found out that both locale=en_EN console-setup/layoutcode=en
are actually wrong, the latter is the culprit for this bug.

2010-10-10 Thread Sunner Sun
I meet the same problem after upgrade to 10.10 i386 desktop edition from
10.04.

I have a self-compiled kernel installed which is based on 10.04's
generic kernel and use the same .config with 10.04. I boot with it and
everything is fine. So I believe it is a problem about the kernel.

In fact, at least in 10.04 and 9.10, the Atom CPU is always freezed if
no keyboard/mice input for around 5 mins. When be freezing, even the
clock is stopped. I 10.10, the freezing happens immediately after the
keystoke up. Totally can't afford.

[Bug 625089] [NEW] [lucid] Can't type in anything, not keyboard problem

2010-08-26 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

Not the same as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/429249
and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/582201

My case is, keyboard does not work in X in 10.04 live mode frugal
installation -- can't type anything.

All works, including mouse, just can't type anything into terminal, file
manger - edit path, or gedit. Further ctrl+alt+f? and even
capslock/NumLock does nothing.

This is a plain laptop keyboard, not an USB one. What's most interesting
is that, although tying and capslock/NumLock not working properly, **the
Fn hot keys are working just fine**. E.g., Fn + backlight on/off
control, sound volume control, screen brightness control. All working
just fine.

Moreover, during shutting down, there is a screen requesting user to
press ENTER to remove CD, **by now, keyboard (enter key) works again**.

Nothing special in dmesg or anything.

This is an amd64 laptop. What else info do you need?

Further info on this bug, on this laptop, I have 3 ways to boot Ubuntu
lucid,

1. from Ubuntu HD installation.
2. from ISO stored on HD.
3. from frugal installation, this is when the problem occurs.

Here is the grub boot menu for case 2 and 3 (so you know what I mean by
frugal installation)

title === Ubuntu 10.04 ISO
kernel /casper/vmlinuz boot=casper
iso-scan/filename=/iso/ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso
file=/preseed/ubuntu.seed quiet splash --
initrd /casper/initrd.lz

title === Ubuntu 10.04 Live
kernel /casper/vmlinuz file=/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper
initrd=/casper/initrd.lz ignore_uuid live-media-path=/casper quiet splash --
locale=en_EN console-setup/layoutcode=en
initrd /casper/initrd.lz

I copy them exactly as-is from my laptop.

BTW, the sequence of my test was 2, 3 and 1. I'm not 100% sure, but I do
believe that keyboard was working properly even in frugal installation
before I did the HD installation. Still, it might be just a coincident.

Recap, judging from above fact, I believe it is a software bug. But I
can't pin point where it is.

Please let me know if you need any further info, or any of my further
investigation.

Thanks

[Bug 574854] Re: lucid xorg regression - thinkpad x40 (855GM) freeze at xorg startup

2010-05-09 Thread sun
FYI, i915.modeset=1 helps, but it doesn't solve it.

Just tried it on 2 of my Thinkpad X40's. I get to the desktop, but as
soon as I try to play a movie, it hangs again.

2010-05-03 Thread Yucong Sun
My eth0 have only 1 ip address, but my eth1 having mutiple, 3.0.6-3.0.7
upgrade broke the ability so I am guessing it is related to vlan stuff?
but I have no vlan interface at all.

Binary package hint: iptraf

Public bug reported:

After upgrade from karmic server to lucid server. When booting into 2.6.32, the
server will hang randomly, console will printout
INFO: XXX task hung for more than 120 seconds

This happen once when I run sysctl -p, but randomly later in several
reboots, it seems the scheduler have some serious problem.

When I boot into 2.6.31, everything works fine.

Status in “hellanzb” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed
Status in “hellanzb” package in Debian: Fix Released

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: hellanzb

Bad if condition at line 12 of
 /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/Hellanzb/HellaReactor.py

if twisted.copyright.version = '2.0.0': condition returns False now that
twisted is at 10.0.0, so it's executing the wrong imports.

 Same problem at:
 line 22 /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/Hellanzb/HellaXMLRPC/HtPasswdAuth.py
 line 34 /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/Hellanzb/HellaXMLRPC/xmlrpc.py

Quick *hack* :- replace '2.0.0' with '02.0.0' and if's behave as intended.

[Bug 459005] Re: Can not log into openbox from GDM in Karmic Beta/RC

2010-02-10 Thread Sun Ning
I also got this problem.
Not only gnome-setting-daemon, but also conky has the same problem (which use
the sleep method to resolve)

The same configuration works fine in archlinux, so I think it's an
ubuntu specified bug.
