Also, gedit should open text files even if it can't recognize the
encoding. If there is a bogus character in the file, that renders the
file unopenable in gedit! The default and frequently the ONLY plaintext
editor w/gui in ubuntu!

Please, open this bug again. In Ubuntu Maverick, it still shows the
package with conflicting version (because it uses old code). I can test
the package if it's properly repackaged.

When playing a sound on my laptop, the sound works well on the headphones, but
not on the laptop's speaker. When I increse the volume, it doesn't increase
progressively but jerkily. Moreover, the sound plays on the subwoofer speaker
and not on the main speakers.

I can confirm this bug. Of every tab I have open, only the first was
showing that info. I refreshed the page and then no info. I don't know
when does it work, it may be the first html part of the session or it
may be just random.

video playback doesn't work on Gutsy Beta and nvidia drivers

It happens to me with kubuntu gutsy, 2.6.22-14. Sometimes; otherwise it
suspends TWICE, so I must resume twice, and it doesn't always work
either.

I suggest you Qsynth as sampler, you need soundfont (.sf2) files to use
it. It is not limited to 8mb as your soundcard, the limit is your RAM.
Also I suggest ZynAddSubFX as softsynth, it comes with a lot of nice
instrument presets. It doesn't need RAM for soundfonts, but CPU power

Hey, I've just noted that my workarounds DOESN'T work when I open

Use my workarounds, start jack (qjackctl), open qsynth or zynaddsubfx,

Try this:
sudo rmmod `lsmod|cut -d' ' -f1|grep snd_`
sudo modprobe snd-seq
sudo modprobe snd-emu10k1
sudo modprobe -r snd_seq_virmidi
By the way, which SB Live! do you have? I have a 5.1, I've read that
'Value' ones are buggy.

I think snd_seq_virmidi is the problematic module because it's used by

Yeah, you're right. It happens also for me in a hda-intel soundcard in a

I don't need it since it's just for loading soundfonts into soundcard
