Same problem here, fresh install Ubuntu 9.04 x64 with this specs:
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 with AMD southbridge SB600
1 TB SAMSUNG SpinPoint 32 MB 7200 rpm SATA 2 HD103UJ
4GB RAM Gskill F2-8500-CL5
I only tried with x64 flavour of Ubuntu, someone else have this problem
with x86?

This happens to me too, I have Ubuntu 8.10 x64 and have installed 2
times for this reason, the clock don't refresh the panel but if I click
it the calendar appears and if I right click and select adjust time, the
time it shows it's the right time but when I exit the panel the clock
stays

AHCI mode and I try to install 8.04 beta booting from the Install CD and
making all the installation but after first reboot GRUB fails with error
17, when I try with native IDE mode Ubuntu installs OK,

Maybe this is a clue because the Plextor 740a and Benq DW1640 share the
same hardware, even you can flash Plextor with Benq firmware. For the
Samsung, I don´t know.

Same problems here like Patrice´s, I´ve a Plextor 740A and when trying
with alpha4 the installation exits at the very beginning to a
(initramfs) shell, i don´t kwon how to save dmesg lspci or lshal outputs
for your information but if you instruct me i can do it. I have tried

I have an Airis 930n with intel 915GM and a clean installation of Gutsy
and only when I have Compiz enabled I have displays freezes every 5
minutes whatever I were doing, the only thing responding is the mouse
cursor.
