[Bug 986058] Re: Display flickers on updates

2015-05-21 Thread Alexander Ponyatykh
I was able to reproduce this problem, but only if there were less than 1ms
between LCD updates (that's 1000 FPS). With more sane update speed I could see
no flickering. Therefore I'm marking this bug as incomplete.
If that's not your case, please provide a sample program which reproduces this
bug.

[Bug 1455924] [NEW] libusb occasionally hungs after suspend/resume

2015-05-17 Thread Alexander Ponyatykh
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to make g15daemon correctly recover after suspend/resume and found
that it occasionally hungs after resume in libusb's usb_urb_transfer()
(linux.c) on this line:
ioctl(dev-fd, IOCTL_USB_REAPURB, context);

After some research I found that linux kernel internally has lists of
pending and completed requests. All requests - successful or not - are
moved from pending list to completed list, no requests should be lost.
But it looks like after suspend/resume some request may be lost (may be
a kernel bug). It that case IOCTL_USB_REAPURB would hung forever since
request it's waiting for will never appear on completed list.

There is simple workaround. After preceding IOCTL_USB_DISCARDURB call
our request is guaranteed to be completed, so there is no need to use
blocking IOCTL_USB_DISCARDURB, we may use non-blocking
IOCTL_USB_REAPURBNDELAY instead.

I've attached path for this workaround. It also fixes race condition
existed in original code, which may cause corruption of stack.

There are actually 3 different issues in g15daemon, libg15 and libusb

libusb is available, and I'll post patches for libg15 and g15daemon
soon.

Actually /dev/input/uinput not found is just a warning, which could be
ignored. The bug is that post-installation script fails if g15daemon
fails to start (e.g. when G15 keyboars is not present).

You have custom version of g15daemon package installed
(1.9.5.4-0~svn529gnome15), which is incompatible with Ubuntu packages.
Remove it (sudo apt-get remove g15daemon) and try again.

Looks like you have custom/old g15daemon package installed (version 1.9.5.3-1),
which conflicts with Ubuntu packages where g15daemon is split into 3
independant packages.
Please try to remove g15daemon (sudo apt-get remove g15daemon) and try again.

[Bug 1383615] [NEW] Path MTU discovery doesn't work if there is no route to transit host

2014-10-21 Thread Alexander Ponyatykh
Public bug reported:

Suppose there is host X you want to connect to and there is some host Y
on the path to X with MTU less than 1500. In usual conditions linux can
discover PMTU, but not when there is no route to Y via the same
interface as to X.

Example: 10.2.2.2 is X, 10.2.2.2.1 is Y,10.0.0.2 is localhost and
10.0.0.1 is gateway.

# ip route
default via 10.0.0.1 dev wlan0 proto static
10.0.0.0/22 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 10.0.0.2 metric 9
# tracepath -n 10.2.2.2
 1?: [LOCALHOST] pmtu 1500
 1: 10.0.0.1 2.362ms
...
 6: 10.2.2.2.16.100ms
 7: 10.2.2.2.17.450ms pmtu 1448
 7: 10.2.2.2.29.232ms !H
 Resume: pmtu 1448
# ping -M do -c 2 -s 1422 10.2.2.2
PING 10.2.2.2 (10.2.2.2) 1422(1450) bytes of data.
From 10.2.2.1 icmp_seq=1 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 1448)
ping: local error: Message too long, mtu=1448

--- 10.2.2.2 ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 0 received, +2 errors, 100% packet loss, time 1000ms

tcpdump output:
10:53:54.813146 IP 10.0.0.2 10.2.2.2: ICMP echo request, id 3218, seq 1,
length 1430
10:53:54.819162 IP 10.2.2.1 10.0.0.2: ICMP 217.78.182.234 unreachable - need
to frag (mtu 1448), length 36

Now lets add direct route to X and remove default route.

# ip route del default
# ip route add 10.2.2.2 via 10.0.0.1 dev wlan0
# ip route
10.0.0.0/22 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 10.0.0.2 metric 9
10.2.2.2 via 10.0.0.1 dev wlan0
# ping -M do -c 2 -s 1422 10.2.2.2
PING 10.2.2.2 (10.2.2.2) 1422(1450) bytes of data.

--- 10.2.2.2 ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 1008ms

tcpdump output:
12:01:43.222181 IP 10.0.0.2 10.2.2.2: ICMP echo request, id 4100, seq 1,
length 1430
12:01:43.234057 IP 10.2.2.1 10.0.0.2: ICMP 217.78.182.234 unreachable - need
to frag (mtu 1448), length 36
12:01:44.231103 IP 10.0.0.2 10.2.2.2: ICMP echo request, id 4100, seq 2,
length 1430
12:01:44.239092 IP 10.2.2.1 10.0.0.2: ICMP 217.78.182.234 unreachable - need
to frag (mtu 1448), length 36

For example, this behavior breaks VPN when all traffic is routed via
tunnel. In this case there is only direct route to VPN gateway (except
local net) via physical interface, and VPN packets larger than PMTU are
discarded, since PMTUD doesn't work.

I've also tested mainline kernel v3.18-rc1-utopic with the same results.

[Bug 938669] Re: upstart jobs do not respect /etc/security/limits.conf

2012-05-06 Thread Alexander Ponyatykh
While limit stanza is a solution for system jobs, it doesn't work for user
jobs if I want to increase hard limits. So far I haven't found any way to
increase hard limits for user jobs.
I think, when starting a user job, upstart should apply limits from limits.conf
using PAM or directly.

[Bug 891158] Re: cp -r --reflink triggers kernel bug

2011-11-17 Thread Alexander Ponyatykh
I've tested 3.2-rc1 and 3.2-rc2, both don't have this bug.
After that i was able to reproduce it again on 3.0.0-12 (to make sure that it
is not dependent on filesystem state).

[Bug 579819] Re: Dante daemon doesn't start automatically

2010-09-19 Thread Alexander Ponyatykh
I've understood, why it is not starting. It takes some time for bridge
interface (br0) to start up, and danted is being started when br0 is not
ready. So it's not danted nor upstart problem, sorry.

[Bug 579819] Re: Dante daemon doesn't start automatically

2010-09-19 Thread Alexander Ponyatykh
Thats what I've found. br0 needs 15 seconds for initialization (between
learning and forwarding stages), and start networking waits until
bridge is ready before returning. With old init it wasn't a problem,
because all tasks were started sequentially, but AFAIK upstart starts
jobs in parallel, therefore danted is started before network is ready.
