[Bug 1355137] Re: gtk2 theme version improvements for high-dpi screens

2017-08-13 Thread Alister Hood
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1687246 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1687246

I think the duplicate is assigned incorrectly as this ticket is
specifically about gtk2, and that one is gtk3.

Re: [Bug 1692981] Re: package libssl-dev:amd64 1.0.2g-1ubuntu11.2 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

2017-07-12 Thread Alister
Hi Seth

My problem with the half installed package appears to have been resolved
with the "sudo apt-get install --reinstall" process. Updates are now
installing correctly as far as I can see.

Sorry, I've been away from the computer for a while. Hope this helps.

Incidentally, running Software updater now responds "Failed to download
repository information - Check your internet connection" Internet is
fine immediately before and after each attempt.

Thanks

1. I forgot to mention that this problem started after I had been away

2 After a couple of reboots, Update now seems to be working correctly.

Having slow boot too (approx 1.5 minutes) after upgrade from 14.10 to
15.04 and getting "Starting version 219" error to "ACPI PCC probe
failed" message with Nvidia drivers installed. Nouveaux works ok but
still sluggish boot. May try fresh install of 15.04 on another HDD (same
PC) to see if problem due to upgrading and not effecting fresh install.

Yes, did that.

Did that too.

Well, I disabled it in mail.server.default.use_condstore - there is no
...use_condstore setting for the account, so I guess Seamonkey doesn't
implement it per account - or should I just create the setting?

> Further, get IMAP log and check imap level flow by yourself

Unfortunately that'll have to wait for another day.
But testing a few more times I discovered that it actually does work, just only
every second time - i.e. I have to do "offline>online>other folder>back to
folder>offline>online>other folder>back to folder" before it updates.

I don't know about Thunderbird, but I see the same thing (going offline
does not work, I have to restart) in "standard" Seamonkey, and have done
through many versions of Seamonkey. In Seamonkey it is actually more
annoying, because you need to shutdown all Seamonkey windows (i.e.
browser windows and everything, not just mail and news windows).

[Bug 1351385] [NEW] My keyboard seems to have some glitches. It will work fine for seconds to minutes, and then the keys will start misbehaving.

2014-08-01 Thread Alister
Public bug reported:

I am very new to Ubuntu, and I am trying to follow the
DebuggingKeyboardDetection on Ubuntu wiki, so I apologize if I am missing any
information or sending a bug report when I needn't! (I have looked and not
found an answer to this problem elsewhere) I have a lenovo g510 laptop that
came pre-installed with windows 8.1, and I have Ubuntu 14.04.1 installed
alongside windows 8.1. The laptop has an 'Accutype' keyboard, if that means
anything. I have not installed any keyboard packages other than what came with
the Ubuntu 14.04.1 installation.
The problem: While typing in my passwords to various accounts, I was finding
that the blinking cursor would suddenly disappear while in the middle of
typing, and thus my password would be cut short. I opened up libre office to
try and get a better idea of what was happening, and it looks like, as I am
typing, my blinking cursor will suddenly jump up to the line above. It seems to
be initiated by the pressing of any letter key—I don't believe it is any one
particular key, and it comes and goes randomly. The problem seemed to subside
for a time after I opened up the languages section and was prompted to install
an update. However, within a day or so, the problem has returned.

[Bug 740809] Re: export failed

2014-03-16 Thread Alister Whitehat
well, I solved my case.

I tried to manually run the video export perl script:

sudo -u www-data zmvideo.pl -e 2 -r 1 -s 1 -F 30 -o

and found that script was complaining about permission error when writing
ffmpeg.log
revieweing the perl script code I found that ffmpeg.log was being written to
the ZM events folder, so:

sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/cache/zoneminder
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /usr/share/zoneminder/events

solved the problem

[Bug 1178725] Re: WAV output files have incomplete/unusable headers

2013-07-21 Thread Alister Hood
Hi,
FYI I believe the issue is further upstream, i.e. with libmad, not mpg321.
I am on Arch linux, and gcdmaster (a gui frontend to cdrdao, using libmad for
mp3 import) converts mp3s to wavs which have the same problem (after doing this
it fails, because it can't handle the faulty wavs!). If I convert the same
file using mpg123 (not 321) it is OK.

[Bug 227459] Re: Updating problem after upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04

2008-05-08 Thread Alister
The issue was indeed because of not enough space left in /boot, which
may have appeared obvious to some but has been part of my continuing
learning experience with ubuntu.

Here is what I did in case it is useful for someone in the same boat.
I copied all the files in /boot related to the old kernel version into a folder
on my /home drive and then removed each one from /boot using sudo rm form
Terminal.

After removing these files I then tried dpkg --configure -a again and this
finally allowed the rest of the upgrade to complete. I then ran sudo apt-get
update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get autoremove

>From what I had read elsewhere this seemed the correct process, but any
comments from someone with more experience would be appreciated.

However, even after running the autoclean and autoremove commands, the
previous kernel files were not removed.

Is this normal, or should they have been removed when the upgrade was
completed? Otherwise I guess you end up with whole backlog of old
versions and have to expand your /boot partition each time!

Sorry if this has ended up in the wrong place, I'm still learning with
this whole process.

[Bug 227459] Re: Updating problem after upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04

2008-05-06 Thread Alister
Hi Pedro

Here is the output of df -hT

/dev/sda6 ext39.2G 3.2G 5.6G 37% /
varrun tmpfs 1005M 240K 1005M 1% /var/run
varlock tmpfs 1005M 0 1005M 0% /var/lock
udev tmpfs 1005M 72K 1005M 1% /dev
devshm tmpfs 1005M 12K 1005M 1% /dev/shm
lrm tmpfs 1005M 38M 968M 4%
/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/volatile
/dev/sda5 ext3 46M 40M 3.6M 92% /boot
/dev/sda7 ext3 59G 5.1G 51G 10% /home
/dev/sda1 fuseblk 75G 60G 15G 81% /media/sda1
/dev/sda2 vfat4.6G 4.0G 616M 87% /media/sda2

i had set up the partition sizes as recommended on other forums, so am a bit
surprised if I have run out of room!
Do I need to manually remove 7.10?

Thanks for your help.
