[Bug 1683865] Re: Intermittent complete system freeze

2017-04-25 Thread Andrej Prša
After further testing I can report that the parent issue has indeed been
resolved upstream. The subsequent lockups are related to the nvidia
module, not the reported issue. Thus, upgrading the kernel will solve
the issue.

[Bug 1683865] Re: Intermittent complete system freeze

2017-04-22 Thread Andrej Prša
Of course, seconds after I posted my previous message, the OS froze
again, so the upstream does *not* fix the issue. I can't readily find
how I can tag the bug as kernel-bug-exists-upstream, but I'll keep
looking. The frequency of freezes seems to have reduced substantially,
but since they are intermittent, it might have been a fluke that it
hadn't frozen for two days.

[Bug 1683865] Re: Intermittent complete system freeze

2017-04-22 Thread Andrej Prša
After two days of testing, I am happy to report that the upstream rc7
version indeed fixes the freezing issue. It still hangs up on
suspend/resume, but that's likely unrelated. As I am now using the
upstream kernel I'm not sure whether I should report that as ubuntu bug.
Any advice would be appreciated. In the mean time I will tag this bug
report appropriately.

[Bug 1058089] [NEW] Intel 5100 AGN (iwlwifi) hangs frequently -- intermittent operation

2012-09-28 Thread Andrej Prša
Public bug reported:

When connecting to a home network, the wireless connection is
established and does not drop, but package throughput works
intermittently. When it is working, it works perfectly: the throughput
is fast and reliable. It seems that traffic helps it. The issue is most
notable on http requests. Flood pinging the router (or connecting to it)
drops no packets during these breaks, but anything outside is
unreachable. At the same time other computers experience no problems.
These paucities in operation last from minutes to tens of minutes.
Reconnecting to the wireless or rmmod/modprobing the module does not
help.

The usual proposed remedies (passing 11n_disable=1 and/or swcrypto=1)
make no obvious difference.

The most curious observations is that, during these intermittent breaks,
/established/ traffic comes through. For example, an active gtalk
session will remain active and fully responsive while all other traffic
is interrupted.

The stock iwlwifi for 12.04 (3.2.0) does not work either. Using the most
recent firmware. The wireless adapter worked perfectly with the 2.6
kernel, and it still works with Mint 11. Other devices have no issue
with the AP.

[Bug 308053] Re: iwlagn: cannot allocate SKB buffers

2008-12-27 Thread Andrej Prša
Managed to get more syslog output on the bug:

[ 2876.725114] iwlagn: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x200.
[ 2876.941557] Registered led device: iwl-phy0:radio

[ 2876.942422] Registered led device: iwl-phy0:TX

It seems to me that the reset should be done on the active connection as
well -- maybe NM should catch the microcode exception.

[Bug 308053] [NEW] iwlagn: cannot allocate SKB buffers

2008-12-14 Thread Andrej Prša
Public bug reported:

After prolonged network activity (typically during heavy traffic) the
network stops responding. Wireless card remains associated with the
access point (local router with WPA), but no traffic comes in or out. As
this happens, /var/log/syslog obtains several tens of:

Dec 14 18:18:54 gemma kernel: [11538.519710] iwlagn: Can not allocate
SKB buffers

separated by ~45 seconds. Other machines connected to the AP are
unaffected, the problem is local to this computer. This is observed on a
Compaq 6820s running Intrepid 64-bit. There are no other network-related
messages in either syslog or messages. After disassociating and
associating, everything returns back to normal.

[Bug 212406] Re: iwl4965 wireless issues in gutsy and hardy

2008-11-30 Thread Andrej Prša
Upgrading to linux-backports-modules helped -- I haven't had any module
problems. However, what does happen still is that the connection freezes
-- nothing comes in/out although the connection is established. After
reconnecting to the access point everything goes back to normal. This
happens ~1-2 times a day, mostly when doing something network intensive
like scp-ing large files or skyping. Not sure this is related to the
module problem, though, as I didn't have to rmmod/modprobe the module
since the upgrade.

[Bug 212406] Re: iwl4965 wireless issues in gutsy and hardy

2008-11-20 Thread Andrej Prša
1) Tested with Hardy and backported 1.2.25, worked like a charm.
2) Upgraded to Intrepid (iwlagn 1.3.27ks), works well enough. I had to
rmmod/modprobe iwlagn a couple of times because the connection sometimes drops
after prolonged use and cannot be re-established. After rmmod/modprobe
everything works again.
3) Installed linux-backports-modules (although I'm not sure if there is any
difference in iwlagn); will report on success.

[Bug 219927] Re: Microphone on a USB Logitech Quickcam does not work

2008-04-27 Thread Andrej Prša
More comments after more testing...

The output from arecord -l:

 List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: default [Camera ], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Trying arecord -D hw:1,0 test.wav says arecord: main:546: audio open
error: Device or resource busy

However... I don't think I was correct to blame the kernel module for
this: finally I managed to squeeze some sound from my usb camera mic by
installing bplay and invoking:

brec -d /dev/audio1

That captured the sound from my microphone flawlessly. Trying to do the
same through gnome-sound-recorder fails (it captures from the integrated
card with no option to change the source)

Trying to change System-Preferences-Sound-Sound Capture to USB Audio
causes gnome-sound-recorder to report: Your audio capture settings are
invalid. Please correct them in the Multimedia settings.

[Bug 23580] Re: Console/Gnome keyboard always English

2008-04-26 Thread Andrej Prša
Testing Hardy.

Booting live CD now prompts for a language, but not for keyboard
variant. I would, for example, prefer English language with a Slovene
keyboard.

All other effects are exactly the same as on Gutsy, i.e. X-applications
work flawlessly, but console fonts and encoding is completely off. Not
only are the fonts wrong, their association is wrong as pressing
accented characters has weird effects like changing all characters to
caps (including console prompt etc), long backspaces (erasing the whole
line), etc.

Attached relevant part of syslog. rmmod-ing and modprobing several times
usually solves the problem for some time.

I just upgraded to 1.2.25 and will report back on success.

[Bug 23580] Re: Console/Gnome keyboard always English

2008-04-25 Thread Andrej Prša
Testing Gutsy.

Booting live CD brings the computer up with a US keymap (which is
understandable as no keymap choice is given).
Starting the installation and selecting a different keymap immediately kicks in
both in X windows and in the console, with international console characters
missing (only iso8859-1 seems to be available).
After reboot, X keymap is fine (both keymap and the fonts), but the console
keymap (although set properly) still misses iso8859-2 fonts; moreover, national
characters produce a funky looking symbol (a thick double vertical line) that
is not iso8859-1.

I'll try installing Hardy and report my findings.

HTH,
Andrej

[Bug 219927] [NEW] Microphone on a USB Logitech Quickcam does not work

2008-04-20 Thread Andrej Prša
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-amd64-generic

After upgrading to Hardy Beta, the microphone on a USB Logitech QuickCam
for Notebooks stopped working. It is recognized by Alsa as a valid
device, the mixer appears functional, but no program can access the
microphone (the error pops up that the device cannot be accessed). Both
the camera and the microphone worked with gspca module in Feisty and
Gutsy. Relevant information:

System: Ubuntu Hardy Beta running on HP/Compaq 6820s (64bit Intel)
Kernel: Linux gemma 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC 2008
x86_64 GNU/Linux
Attached: lsusb.out (relevant part of the lsusb -v output)

All trivialties such as volume control, etc, checked and the problem
persists. Please let me know if any additional details are needed.

** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 75894] Re: [GPL GS WORKS] evince (gs-esp) memory leak opening .eps files

2007-04-26 Thread Andrej Prša
Confirming this issue in Feisty for any powerpoint slide exported to
.eps (an example attached). Switching to gs-gpl solves the problem.

[Bug 23580] Re: Console/Gnome keyboard always English

2007-04-26 Thread Andrej Prša
Returning to Feisty, clean install, using Slovene keymap works in X, but
it does not work in the console (where US keymap is used).
