[Bug 1450137] Re: Qt5 applications crash when switching screens
Re: the impact, I guess it affects users on laptops that regularly (dis)connect external screens (eg. using same laptop at work home or connecting the laptop to a TV to watch a movie) without shutting down the machine. From the few (10) Kubuntu 15.04 installations I can be blamed for, I'm the only one who noticed the bug even though I managed to reproduce it on all of them. Anyway, after reading the qtbugs and trying to cherry-pick a few relevant upstream commits, I think Qt 5.4.1 is a lost cause for this bug at this point, so feel free to postpone/cancel this SRU. As my next steps, I'll try Fedora, and also 5.4.2 5.5 on Vivid Wily to see if I can reproduce it. Will take a few days however. :/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450137 Title: Qt5 applications crash when switching screens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtdeclarative-opensource-src/+bug/1450137/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1450137] Re: Qt5 applications crash when switching screens
I did a few tests: On the first reboot after installing qtdeclarative from the Wily PPA on Vivid, I probably got lucky and managed to plug/unplug the external monitor 4 times before the first crash (nvidia-340's xrandr also stopped detecting changes for the next 2 topology changes at that point, although that's nothing new). On subsequent reboots I'm getting Plasma/Kwin/Konsole crashes on almost every screen change. Some changes in behaviour that I noticed: 1. Dr. Konqi is started for kwin crashes, but no window appears (no mention of it in xlsclients either). 2. Dr. Konqi is not started for plasmashell crashes (crashes on almost every screen change). 3. Dr. Konqi is not started for Konsole crashes (crashes on every screen change). 4. krunner does not crash on screen change - it crashes instead when called with Alt+F2, with Dr. Konqi appearing. It doesn't allow me to report krunner crashes by the way, but that's another bug. The backtrace (which I'm attaching) is different this time, there's no physicalSize() in it. Luckily it's restarted right after usually, so there's a way to recover manually. 5. System Settings 5 also usually crashes around screen changes; that's caught by apport however, which gives me zero information. 6. Usually after a crash, the Plasma panel flickers, with only the spacer being displayed when not flickering, and can't be clicked. Disabling composition with the shortcut works around this. All in all, I'd say the behaviour has improved a bit, as regards the frequency of crashes; however, losing Dr. Konqi is mildly disappointing. I have to apologise here for jumping on this patch without having tested it myself first. I'll try pre-attaching gdb to kwin/plasmashell/konsole to get backtraces out of them, and a Fedora install in the next days to see if the crashes are really fixed, at least on my machine, and report back. ** Attachment added: New krunner backtrace https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtdeclarative-opensource-src/+bug/1450137/+attachment/4396120/+files/krunner-20150511-231019_xrandr%2Bqtdeclarative_ubuntu8.kcrash.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450137 Title: Qt5 applications crash when switching screens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtdeclarative-opensource-src/+bug/1450137/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1450137] Re: Qt5 applications crash when switching screens
This has affected all Plasma 5 releases in Kubuntu since Utopic, including the current backport of Plasma 5.3. It reliably triggers a cascade of crashes in at least krunner, plasma and kwin on every screen topology change, making for a very disconcerting user experience. Same here. /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh tries to source /usr/share/acpi-support/power- funcs , which doesn't exist in any package under 13.10 (it did exist in 13.04), and run getXconsole() from it, which would set XUSER. [Bug 1096641] Re: Patch to remove Bashism in /usr/share/acpi-support/power-funcs
Hello and thanks for the fast reply :) I guess an argument for it would be for use as a helper in local scripts. While writing a local workaround for #467825, it happened to suit my needs. I would have written a proper one if it didn't exist though. However, since then I caved in and patched upowerd, meaning I have no use for it anymore. Another issue with it is that if it's used by multiple scripts, it'll only work for the first one that happens to be called by acpid per power state change. So it's up to you in the end. If you decide its functionality is useful indeed, and since I seem to have stirred the waters here :), I could send you an improved version of it (or of the whole file while I'm at it). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1096641 Title: Patch to remove Bashism in /usr/share/acpi-support/power-funcs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi-support/+bug/1096641/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 708013] [NEW] Xorg crash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I'm afraid I'm not really sure what caused this. I installed this Kubuntu Natty system yesterday using netboot and Nouveau worked decently, even with the experimental GL support enabled. After a few upgrade cycles it (X) started crashing on boot, with or without libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental installed. I've already installed libc6-dbg, xserver-xorg-core-dbg xserver-xorg- video-nouveau-dbg; hope the backtrace isn't totally worthless. [Bug 337377] Re: please restore netselect package: it's _not_ debian-specific
Hello, this tool can be used for many purposes other than selecting the fastest Debian mirror. For example: Just now I had a big list of IPv6 tunnel brokers and wanted to find which one of them had the least latency for me. Please restore it and disable the netselect-apt part of it, which obviously isn't useful to Ubuntu by default without an Ubuntu mirror list. Lastly, you may take the following as a rant: Just because a mirror is in the same country, it doesn't necessarily mean it's the fastest or most frequently updated. Right now I'm using nl.archive.ubuntu.com even though I'm in Greece, as NTUA's mirror broke down once again a few days ago, and before that, Otenet (my ISP) stopped updating theirs a few months ago as well. [Bug 612091] Re: please update zaphfc driver to tip of trunk
Hello again, after a long and educational session with quilt, I attach a refreshed version of the debian/patches/dahdi_linux_extra file. The only change I made was updating drivers/dahdi/zaphfc/base.c to r7 in SVN (was r5). It contains two small changes - the first is an additional header include (linux/sched.h) for building with kernels 2.6.32+ and the second one is a typo fix (D - DAHDI_D) which did all the damage. I didn't touch the file debian/patches/zaphfc, as the Debian maintainer merged all extra driver patches into dahdi_linux_extra in http://bugs.debian.org/564720 and did not provide a way to automatically produce it, which I assume means he's going to drop them at a later stage. I've tested the resulting package on my system and it seemed ok. Feel free to ask me if anything else is needed. Cheers, Antonio ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #564720 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=564720 ** Attachment added: Refreshed quilt patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dahdi-linux/+bug/612091/+attachment/1489700/+files/dahdi_linux_extra -- please update zaphfc driver to tip of trunk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/612091 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Attaching a minimal version of the patch which can be applied after dahdi_linux_extra, in case you prefer it in that form. [Bug 611226] Re: Dovecot-common Install Error
This is evolving to a subject better discussed at the forums by the way, as this seems to be a misconfiguration in the stacklet. The hostname is kept by the kernel in /proc/sys/kernel/hostname. In your case, it is ubuntu. What hostname -f does, is the equivalent of running getent hosts `hostname` | awk '{print $2}' on the command line. If that command doesn't work, hostname -f won't work either. Please attach your /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/nsswitch.conf and /etc/hosts so I can see what's wrong with the NSS resolver on your system. Hello Ian! The revealing message here is hostname: Name or service not known which means there is a DNS issue on your system. hostname -i and hostname -d should get you going on debugging this. [Bug 609651] Re: compile OpenLDAP with OpenSSL
Is there some rationale behind this request? What do you need from OpenSSL that GNUTLS doesn't provide, in this case?
