I have the same issue like jherazob. Maybe this is a new issue compared
to the 100% cpu issue discussed above?

[Bug 803363] [NEW] Bought software fails to install

2011-06-29 Thread Arne Caspari
Public bug reported:

I bought Steel Storm from the ubuntu software center but it failed to
install ( for unknown reason, I did not see an error message but the
software was not installed after a while and there was no ongoing
installation in the software center).

I tried to reinstall via: File/reinstalled purchased software... ( or
similar, I am using the German version ). It asks for my Ubuntu Single
Sign On credentials but fails to login with Method CreateItem with
signature 'a{sv}(oayay)b' on interface org.freedesktop.Secret.Collection
doesn't exist

Also there is now an Install button in the entry for Steel Storm but
if I click that, the installation fails saying it can not install from
an untrusted source.

Oh, and I think it would be nice to add an option to get a more direct
way of support if a purchase fails. At least the help should state whom
to contact if there are issues with purchased software.

[Bug 803363] Re: Bought software fails to install

2011-06-29 Thread Arne Caspari
Hello Gary,

thank you very much for your quick response. I was able to get this
resolved by myself by installing the packages steelstorm-episode2 and
steelstorm-episode2-data by hand with apt-get install from the
commandline. After some glitches, this worked ( the first time one of
the packages had a size missmatch, the second time worked though ). I am
sorry I do not remember if apt-get warned me about the untrusted source
but it may very well have.

A network glitch during the software-center install is likely since I
did not look for the package size and installed while on a not-so-stable
UMTS connection. However I had another package in the install queue
while waiting for the steelstorm installation ( libsdl1.2-dev ) which
installed just fine.

Now the software-center only offers me to uninstall the package - I will
do that now and try to reinstall the package and let you know the
result.

So, I tried that and now software-center is able to download and install

might never now why it failed initially :-/

Thank you very much for your support.

[Bug 803363] Re: Bought software fails to install

2011-06-29 Thread Arne Caspari
Hi Gary,

I removed the package from the apt cache before I tried to reinstall and
verified that software-center actually starts the download.

I tried with software-center several times and switched to a wired
network to rule out networking problems just to be sure but it always
failed. I also ran an apt-get update to refresh the package cache but
the untrusted source error remained. I found out that the Method
CreateItem failed error came from the installation of GNOME3 from a ppa
and resulting incompatible packages for ubuntu single sign on which I
was able to fix by installing a patched ubuntu-sso-client package
however this did not fix the untrusted package source issue.

It looks to me like the issue was that somehow apt lost the signatures
of at least the ppa with the purchased software and somehow even an apt-
get update did not refresh that signature. Maybe even that ppa itself
was defective by the time I tried the installation as the first run of
apt-get install had a package size missmatch - something I find rather
unusual.

Thanks again,
/Arne

[Bug 655615] Re: ecrypts file corruption

2010-10-07 Thread Arne Caspari
I moved the build environment out of the encrypted home folder to an
unencrypted part of the same harddisk and made a complete rebuild of the
Angstrom image. This time the build went through without any issues.
There were no IO errors and more importantly, there was no file
corruption.

I think this pretty much confirms that ecryptfs is the cause for the
file corruption

[Bug 655615] [NEW] ecrypts file corruption

2010-10-06 Thread Arne Caspari
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

I am trying to build an Angstrom/Openembedded image. The process
involves a lot of CPU and disk activity. The build home is on my home
partition which is using ecrypt fs.

During the build I get occasional messages in the kernel log like:
[440102.824861] Valid eCryptfs headers not found in file header region or xattr
region
[440102.824867] Either the lower file is not in a valid eCryptfs format, or the
key could not be retrieved. Plaintext passthrough mode is not enabled;
returning -EIO

Consequently the build stops with an IO error. Continuing the build
usually fixes this issue ( ie. the files can be correctly read the
second time ).

But unfortunately from time to time, the files get corrupted which means
that they only contain binary data garbage!

[Bug 575087] [NEW] Iconizing the Emptying Trash Window makes it disappear

2010-05-04 Thread Arne Caspari
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I just emptied a Trash with a large number of files and iconized the
preparing to empty the trash ( or similar ) dialog. The window
completely vanishes and there is no tab in the window list for it to
bring it back.

The gvfsd-trash process does continue to run causing high CPU and IO
load ( probably still collecting data about the to-be-removed items to
display a process bar on a hidden window ;-) )

[Bug 575087] Re: Iconizing the Emptying Trash Window makes it disappear

2010-05-04 Thread Arne Caspari
Changing to invalid was a bit fast, I guess.

There is an indicator for file operations if I copy eg. a large
directory or similar. However this indicator did not appear when
emptying the trash.

Maybe the indicator does not appear while the empty trash-operation is
counting files? ( This operation takes a ridiculous amount of time if
the trash contains many files - I killed gvsd-trash after hours and it
did not seem to even start to delete the first file, so there should be
at least an indicator during this operation, i guess ).

Ok I tested it again with a large folder and now there is an indicator

posted the bug report.

Maybe the gvsd-trash process has gone wild during the last operation,
however I can currently not repoduce it.

2010-05-04 Thread Arne Caspari
Ok, this is getting closer:

I have probably clicked the empty trash menu item of the panel-applet
the first time. This will not bring up the indicator icon in the tray
bar. However when I do this now, the window is still in the window list
of the panel but when I issued the bug report, I was not able to bring
up the window in any way ( it was not in the windows list and it did not
appear in the window switcher when I pressed ctrl+alt+tab which should
bring up windows from all desktops IIRC ).

[Bug 485249] [NEW] [karmic] Battery fill level is off; system shutting down early

2009-11-19 Thread Arne Caspari
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Ubuntu 9.10, Macbook 1,1

gnome-power-manager indicates a Energy when fully charged ( translated
from German so the actual english label might differ ) of 1357,0 Wh (
which is incorrect, of course ) and a Design Energy of 50,2Wh ( which is
probably right ).

The charge level is obviously calculated from the Energy when fully
charged so gnome-power-manager always indicates a critical charge ( 4
% ). Sometimes the systems shuts down because of a critical battery
level ( even though it correctly indicates that there is 1 hour of
running time left ).

The crash location is always the same.

I found out more details: The crash happens not only when you enter
something in the search box. It happens when devhelp changes the pages
fast, ie when you scroll fast through the index page using the cursor
keys, it will crash after a short while. I suppose that the crash occurs
when devhelp interrupts a page while it is loading or something like
that.

[Bug 59310] Import dialog blocks when scanning large volumes

2006-09-07 Thread Arne Caspari
Public bug reported:

Open the import dialog and select the root directory of some volume
containing a large filesystem ( eg. select / ).

The UI becomes unresponsive and the application appears to be crashed
while it scans the folder ( which may take extremely long ).

** Affects: f-spot (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Untriaged
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 51932] frequency scaling does not scale properly on dual core

2006-07-05 Thread Arne Caspari
Public bug reported:

I have a MacBook with a dual core intel CPU. When I run a single
threaded application that uses up 100% CPU on one core, the frequency
remains at the lowest step ( 1Ghz here ). I think the CPU should run at
full speed in this case since it would considerably speed up the single
thread.

 Importance: Untriaged
 Status: Unconfirmed
