Just what I'd pasted into the comment.  I can try to reproduce later this

[Bug 1937296] Re: Kernel Hang During "Loading initial ramdisk..."

2021-09-20 Thread Boyd Stephen Smith Jr.
On a personal note, I'm unable to be productive at work because I can no
longer find a kernel that will boot with networking in a non-line
environment. Never had this happen with the Debian installation I have
on System76 (but not-Serval) hardware I have at home.

5.11.0-7620-generic never booted.

5.11.0-7633-generic never booted.

[Bug 1937296] Re: Kernel Hang During "Loading initial ramdisk..."

2021-09-20 Thread Boyd Stephen Smith Jr.
5.11.0-7614-generic was updated last week, and no longer boots.

5.13.0-7614-generic had never booted.

5.8.0-43-generic boots, but comes up without audio devices or network
devices (neither wired nor wireless). This is particularly weird since
the Ubuntu Live environment I'm writing this update from is using
5.8.0-43, and has both audio and networking working fine.

5.4.0-84-generic boots, but comes up without audio devices or network
devices.

I still need to try 5.4.0-26, but I'm not hopeful.

[Bug 1914827] Re: do-release-upgrade failing with "unresolvable problem caclulating the upgrade"

2021-02-11 Thread Zach Boyd
Removing the -dbg packages got me past that error, and it is currently
doing all the upgrades. Thanks so much! Is there something special about
-dbg packages that gets in the way of upgrading, or does it just happen
that dist-upgrade was not smart enough to figure it out?

[Bug 1914827] [NEW] do-release-upgrade failing with "unresolvable problem caclulating the upgrade"

2021-02-05 Thread Zach Boyd
Public bug reported:

I've uploaded the logs. Based on the printout

"Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If
you want to investigate this yourself the log files in
'/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade.
Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'."

I am filing this. Note that the message seems to expect to be able to
list some reasons for the failure but doesn't have any. In an earlier
run, it asked me to run ppa-purge, after which the message change to
give no suggested causes. (I do suspect that I missed something at that
step since there are 206 broken packages in the apt.log file still.
Maybe I accidentally removed some ppas rather than doing ppa-purge? I am
unable to tell from the apt.log file which if any of the Broken packages
is blocking the upgrade.)

In main.log, it just says "ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'E:Error,
pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held
packages.'" I checked, and there are no held packages.

Really struggling to find a lead to resolve this.

[Bug 1764005] Re: Black-screen on boot with nvidia 390 for Budgie, MATE, Xubuntu, Kubuntu

2018-05-16 Thread Daniel Boyd
I am still having problems. Running nvidia-prime 0.8.8.

I upgraded from 17.10 and have four monitors connected to a Dell
Precision 7510 with a Quadro M1000M.

In xorg, I get one of the four monitors. In wayland I get the other 3!

I've attached my xorg.0.log

I unfortunately can't stick around to help troubleshoot because this is
my production work machine and I thought I'd take my lunch break to
upgrade to 18.04. whoops. Now I'm going to have to wipe and revert to
17.10... :/

[Bug 1769152] [NEW] flatpak missing ostree dependency

2018-05-04 Thread Daniel Boyd
Public bug reported:

I was attempting to install MonoDevelop per the instructions on
MonoDevelop's web site.

It says to install flatpak (which I did, via apt) and then issue this command:
flatpak install --user --from
https://download.mono-project.com/repo/monodevelop.flatpakref

I did that as well. Flatpak started downloading things but eventually errored
out with this error message:
error: While pulling app/com.xamarin.MonoDevelop/x86_64/stable from remote
com.xamarin.MonoDevelop-origin: Socket I/O timed out

I tried this 5 times, each time with the same result. After searching
around on the internet, I saw a forum thread where someone suggested I
check my ostree version:

$ ostree --version

Command 'ostree' not found, but can be installed with:

sudo apt install ostree

I then installed ostree, re-ran the flatpak install and it installed.

I suggest ostree be added as a dependency to flatpak.

[Bug 1572955] Re: libtranslate-bin prints HTML garbage when translating with Google

2017-07-14 Thread Boyd
Workaround is to trim all text before the ">"

as is we get the following:
 echo "hola" | translate-bin -s google -f es -t en
" onmouseover="this.style.backgroundColor='#ebeff9'"
onmouseout="this.style.backgroundColor='#fff'">Hello

use the following to get what you want:
$echo "hola" | translate-bin -s google -f es -t en | grep -oP ">$prefix\K.*"
Hello

Re: [Bug 1452504] Re: The installer said that there was a problem with the hard drive that it may be because it was old and neads to be replaced

2015-05-13 Thread Zachary Boyd
Thank you for replying but I have found a way to get the drive to work all
I did was make a couple of partitions and yes the drive probably needs to
be replaced because it is an old drive but it is also a old pc so I don't
think I would even bother buying a new drive seeing as it was just sitting
doing nothing I tried to resurrect it give it some use.

But thank you very much for replying I didn't expect that I would even get
a reply.

2015-02-08 Thread Campbell Boyd
Hi Christoher

I want to check I'm doing the right thing.

So far I've tested:

3.19.0-031900rc7-generic
3.19.0-031900rc6-generic
3.19.0-031900rc5-generic
3.19.0-031900rc4-generic
3.19.0-031900rc3-generic
3.19.0-031900rc2-generic

and all have passed - i.e failed to reproduce the problem.

Should I just continue?

Regards

[Bug 1347947] [NEW] When Adding new torrents through web interface there is no longer a default action

2014-07-23 Thread Boyd
Public bug reported:

In previous versions of Transmission, when using the web interface, on
the form where a new torrent file is uploaded, pressing the Enter key on
my keyboard would perform the same action as the Upload button on the
form. I can't be certain which version that feature appeared in, but
after recent upgrading, to 2.82 that feature no longer exists. There is
no default action when pressing Enter.

[Bug 1247736] Re: nvidia-opencl-icd-* should not conflicts/replaces on opencl-icd

2014-05-04 Thread Damien Boyd
I also ran into this behavior while doing an optimus install on a Sony
Vaio S with Xubuntu 14.04 (Trusty). Following this guide:
http://www.muktware.com/2013/12/install-nvidia-331-bumblebee-optimus-
cards/18271

During the install, nvidia-331 wishes to remove wine1.6-amd64 and
subcomponents thanks to ocl-icd.

Using the following from comment #7: sudo apt-get install ocl-icd-opencl-dev
Then: sudo apt-get install wine1.6-amd64

solves the issue.

Since I posted, newer versions of Ubuntu exist (I'm using 13.04) and it
gives output to the internal speaker.

[Bug 1198413] [NEW] Install chown .bash_history to root:root

2013-07-06 Thread Damien Boyd
Public bug reported:

1.Description:  Linux Mint 15 Olivia
Release:15

2.terminator:
  Installed: 0.96-2fakesync1
  Candidate: 0.96-2fakesync1
  Version table:
 *** 0.96-2fakesync1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3.install as normal.
4.install proceeded as normal, terminator package functions properly, however
in all user terminals history function ceased. After some google-fu, checked
~/.bash_history and found instead of $user:$user, it was root:root for
ownership.

FIX: sudo chown $user:$user ~./bash_history
Uncertain as to why installation would chown history file, but it's sorted now,
and all terminals recognize history file properly.

[Bug 1100445] [NEW] wireless network name in network settings drop down list should be selectable from anywhere along the length of the name not just at the end

2013-01-16 Thread Pete Boyd
Public bug reported:

When selecting a wireless network name in the network settings app
(System Settings -> Network), under Network Name you can see the name of
the currently associated network, with the ability to cause the drop
down list to expand by selecting the down arrow at the far right hand
edge of the box.

I shouldn't have to navigate to that far right edge to select the small that is
the down arrow in order to bring up the list, I should be able to select
anywhere along the length of the box containing the Network Name.
When hovering over the network name, the mouse pointer takes on a text entry
style, yet this is not a text entry box; selecting the network name does
nothing.

[Bug 547147] Re: [drm:edid_is_valid] *ERROR* Raw EDID

2012-11-05 Thread Boyd
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 575985 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575985

#7 worked for me to keep the error messages out of my log.
Thanks nicolassuni.

nicolaasuni (info-tecnick) wrote on 2010-05-06:  #7
To remove the error message I edited the /etc/default/grub

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

change the line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

to:

#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset"

save and close gedit
update grub:

sudo update-grub

[Bug 1066638] [NEW] fx update seems broken in beancounter

2012-10-14 Thread Boyd Kelly
Public bug reported:

Trying out beancounter after a long absence. I can't update my fx with
oanda or ubx.

oanda gives the following:
bkelly@x1 ~ $ beancounter fxbackpopulate --prevdate '50 days ago' IAU
$VAR1 = {
  'verbose' => '1',
  'equityupdate' => 1,
  'fxupdate' => '1',
  'lastbizday' => '20121014',
  'dbname' => 'portfolio.sqlite',
  'currency' => 'CAD',
  'debug' => '1',
  'user' => 'bkelly',
  'odbc' => 0,
  'host' => 'localhost',
  'passwd' => undef,
  'commit' => 1,
  'prevbizday' => '20120825',
  'today' => '20121014',
  'dbsystem' => 'sqlite',
  'dsn' => 'beancounter',
  'ubcfx' => 0
};
Database has schema 0.8.7, we require version 0.6.0
   backpopulating IAU (rel. to CAD) from 20120825 to 20121014
Url is
http://www.oanda.com/convert/fxhistory?lang=en&date1=08%2F25%2F2012&date=10%2F14%2F2012&date_fmt=us&exch=IAU&exch2=&expr=CAD&expr2=&margin_fixed=0&SUBMIT=Get+Table&format=CSV&redirected=1

But if enter the url directly in a browser it tells me:

Sorry, couldn't create table, because you entered incorrect dates
or the time period is too big (max. 500 days).

This is the case not matter what the time period.

ubcfx gives me the following url:

bkelly@x1 ~ $ beancounter fxbackpopulate --ubcfx --prevdate '50 days ago' IAU
$VAR1 = {
  'verbose' => '1',
  'equityupdate' => 1,
  'fxupdate' => '1',
  'lastbizday' => '20121014',
  'dbname' => 'portfolio.sqlite',
  'currency' => 'CAD',
  'debug' => '1',
  'user' => 'bkelly',
  'odbc' => 0,
  'host' => 'localhost',
  'passwd' => undef,
  'commit' => 1,
  'prevbizday' => '20120825',
  'today' => '20121014',
  'dbsystem' => 'sqlite',
  'dsn' => 'beancounter',
  'ubcfx' => 1
};
Database has schema 0.8.7, we require version 0.6.0
Url is
http://fx.sauder.ubc.ca/cgi/fxdata?b=CAD&ld=14&lm=10&ly=2012&fd=25&fm=08&fy=2012&daily&q=volume&f=csv&o=T.C&c=IAU
--> Pacific Exchange Rate Service - Error
Use of uninitialized value in print at /usr/share/perl5/Finance/BeanCounter.pm
line 376.

With ubcfx it seems the url has the stock symbol instead of the currency symbol
as the last paramter. If I change the url to:

http://fx.sauder.ubc.ca/cgi/fxdata?b=CAD&ld=14&lm=10&ly=2012&fd=25&fm=08&fy=2012&daily&q=volume&f=csv&o=T.C&c=USD
then this will return a table in a browser.

Thanks if either of these options can be fixed!

[Bug 1013093] Re: Latest kernel causes purple screen of death

2012-06-14 Thread Campbell Boyd
I followed the DebuggingKernalBoot wiki and everything went ok. I
restarted three times (without modifying grub) and it started ok.

I don't know what's changed. When the purple death occurred this morning
I rebooted twice and each time it hung with nothing happening, no disk
activity for a couple of minutes until I got fed up and pulled the plug.

I've changed the status to Invalid as I can no longer replicate the
problem..

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Invalid
