I thought I'd add some info to this report. I'm seeing similar issues
after doing a fresh install of 11.10 onto a Samsung NC10. This netbook
does not use an ATI card however. It uses the i915 driver so it's an
Intel integrated video card.

and the issue still exists when using the live cd. Using safe mode

Feisty is fine, as is edgy and dapper. I think that gutsy's default is
to run the live cd with compositing enabled isn't it? If so, I think
that's most likely the problem in this case. I'm surprised that more

Agreed, setting layout.css.dpi to 0 (rather than -1) in about:config
also seems to fix this problem.

I found when installing this app that it depends on samba and krb-
config. These packages aren't installed automatically.
