[Bug 1960421] Re: webcal:// URLs do not open calendar application

2022-02-10 Thread Christian Weiske
The Thunderbird bug has been fixed. It already supported webcal urls,
but had a problem when a webcal url ended with .ics as it did in your
case. That problem is gone now.

Back to the problem: Firefox should open those URLs with thunderbird.
I think that Firefox on Ubuntu should provide the defaults that it does, and
not require me to register something.

[Bug 1960421] [NEW] webcal:// URLs do not open calendar application

2022-02-09 Thread Christian Weiske
Public bug reported:

I have Thunderbird 91.5.0 (64-Bit) installed on Ubuntu 20.04 and use it
for calendaring.

When clicking on a webcal:// or webcals:// URL in Firefox 96.0 (64-Bit)
on Ubuntu 20.04, nothing happens.

I expect that Thunderbird opens and asks to subscribe to the calendar.

[Bug 1866999] Re: gnome-calendar does not sync with Google Calendar

2022-02-08 Thread Christian Weiske
I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 with gnome-calendar 3.36.2 and have the same problem:
Google calendar did not sync.
Then I removed the cache in "~/.cache/evolution/calendar/", and gnome calendar
showed no appointments at all (as expected).

Clicking the "sync now" menu item changed the calendar icon briefly to a
checkmark, but "journalctrl -f" said:

> Feb 08 13:28:20 sybo gnome-calendar[17021]: Error synchronizing client
> Feb 08 13:28:20 sybo gnome-calendar[17021]: Error synchronizing client
> Feb 08 13:28:20 sybo gnome-calendar[17021]: Error synchronizing client

for every calendar, enabled or not.

which upgraded from 16.04 ... all the way to 10.04). The solution was

It does indeed!
I wonder why this was not installed automatically.

Also, the title bars of Firefox , Thunderbird and Slack (Electron

control center + terminal have dark title bars. But this is probably a
different issue.

It only does not modify anything layout-wise :)

from the Ubuntu Community

Original setting:
$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme

After clicking on light layout:

2021-04-25 Thread Christian Weiske
Public bug reported:

When clicking on one of the "window colors" (Light, Standard, Dark) in

changing the "window colors" once works (sets colors back to default).

[Bug 1186614] [NEW] External HDMI display stopped working on MacBook Air

2013-06-01 Thread Christian Weiske
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04, my Macbook Air does not detect my
TV connected via HDMI and the HDMI-Displayport adapter. HDMI worked fine
on 12.10.

dmesg does not show any signs that anything happened at all when I plug
in the HDMI adapter.

The VGA adapter is still working fine on 13.04.

Upgrading from ubuntu kernel 3.8.0-22 to mainline 3.9.4-030904 did not
help.

With 12.10 (network-manager 0.9.6), you can connect to multiple VPNs using the

- Network
- Select each VPN and set it to on.

So Network manager is able to connect multiple VPNs, but the systray
menu not.

[Bug 1072922] [NEW] Usability: People nearby hard to find in account setup

2012-10-29 Thread Christian Weiske
Public bug reported:

I tried to setup a people nearby account in empathy and had a hard
time finding it, since I did not know that it is salut.

It would be nice if there was a description for Salut shown in the new

[Bug 914437] Re: Second display not recognized anymore; EDID checksum is invalid

2012-01-19 Thread Christian Weiske
Booting the system with both displays attached shows only the working
monitor in the display settings.

When booting the system with only the non-working monitor attached
actually shows the desktop on the non-working display, but in a wrong
resolution - and the display settings application does not show any
monitor at all (see screenshots).

2012-01-18 Thread Christian Weiske
I can reproduce the issue using Virtualbox 4.1.2 on ubuntu 64bit, 8gib
disk

1. install a fresh system: ubuntu 11.10 desktop amd64
2. during installation: manual partitioning, 4gib ext4 for /, no other partition
3. after installation: run gparted, create new partition on the rest of the
disk (4gib) without file system (uninitialized)
4. run system-config-lvm: init partition 2 (the newly created one)
4.1 add lvmdisk1, 2gib, ext4
4.2 add lvmdisk2, 1gib, ext4
5. reboot
6. wait 60 seconds

[Bug 917118] [NEW] Open irc:// links with xchat

2012-01-16 Thread Christian Weiske
Public bug reported:

When clicking an IRC link in Chromium, Firefox or Opera, I expect that
they are opened in my running xchat instance (I have no other IRC
application installed).

Currently, Firefox asks me to configure it manually, Opera tries to use
its in-built IRC client and Chromium uses xdg-open, which fails badly:

LC_ALL=C xdg-open irc://irc.wolfire.com/wolfire
gvfs-open: irc://irc.wolfire.com/wolfire: error opening location: Der
angegebene Ort wird nicht unterstützt (~the given place is not supported)

Please make at least xdg-open work with xchat.

[Bug 914437] [NEW] Second display not recognized anymore; EDID checksum is invalid

2012-01-10 Thread Christian Weiske
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10, the second display is not
recognized anymore.

It's an amd64 system with a Radeon HD 5700 graphics card.
The first display, a Samsung P2250, connected via DVI, is recognized flawlessly.
The second display, a Sony SDM-S51, connected with a VGA cable and a
VGA-to-DVI-converter, is not recognized anymore.

dmesg is full of the following message:
[drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 254
...
radeon :01:00.0: DVI-I-2: EDID block 0 invalid.
[drm:radeon_dvi_detect] *ERROR* DVI-I-2: probed a monitor but no|invalid EDID

I verified this bug on a completely new system (clean install, all
updates). Also reported as #24752 on landscape.canonical.com ( Second
display not recognized anymore).

Full error message:

Thanks for the apport hint.

Using apport I got the crash report, and ubuntu-bug notified me of a
custom libraptor in /usr/local/lib. Removing that fixed the problem for
me.

Thanks!

[Bug 313452] Re: Jaunty, Karmic: when booting from one partition and installing to another, installer fails to unmount '/cdrom' this halts installation.

2011-10-08 Thread Christian Weiske
I needed to follow the iso-on-harddisk installation method because my
macbook air 4,2 does not boot from removable usb drives.

Following teague-wisc's instructions worked for me.

Same problem here with CIFS. gnome-panel is the one here that doesn't
want to freeze.
