[Bug 1935785] [NEW] Failed resume: radeon
Public bug reported: My laptop used to be able to suspend and resume fine, on 20.04 and earlier. I recently upgraded to 20.10, and noticed that it was failing to resume, but I didn't look into it much because I also noticed that I could upgrade to 21.04. Same issue. I ran journalctl -b -l -kand noticed an error with radeon failing to resume. But, I'm not sure if that is the correct command. I was suggested to run journalctl -b -1, and that doesn't show any errors at the end. [Bug 1929786] Re: Postfix Local only configuration adds 2 dots on hostname , blocking package upgrades
I had this issue as well. Seems to be some sort of config issue. I replaced with /etc/postfix/main.cf with a blank file, and it worked. I did not configure it myself, but I did get a question about postfix during my upgrade, where I selected the default selection. The upgrade was from 20.10->21.04, so I think this might be an upgrade issue. ** Changed in: postfix (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1929786 Title: Postfix Local only configuration adds 2 dots on hostname , blocking package upgrades To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/1929786/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1899309] [NEW] firefox leaks memory and crashes computer (lack of swap)
Public bug reported: I use lot's of tabs in firefox, and I also stream videos. Firefox uses lot's of memory in the first place, and it also seems to leak memory as well. The default install gave me very little swap. When my system runs out of memory, it swaps almost endlessly. This last time, it was more than 20 minutes of swapping, so I got frustrated, reboot, and now I'm filing a bug. I see this as affecting several aspects of my system: 1) the installer only gave me a 1g swap file to pair with my 12g of memory, and it gave me no option to set it myself. At some point, that changed to 2g and I don't know how. I installed on 18.04, fresh install over an old /home directory. A little background: I normally manually set my partitions (msdos), and give myself a swap partition that is at least the same size as my ram, and maybe up to double it. I upgraded to a new ssd drive, and tried to go with the new partitioning system, gpt. I realized I didn't know how to setup gpt, so I went with a default install, and copied over my /home from a backup. Anyway, not super important. 2)Firefox uses up tons of memory, and leaks it. Firefox also keeps asking for memory from my system, even though there is none left 3) My system keeps trying to give firefox more memory, even though there is none left. And it swap kills my system. Shouldn't the system just give firefox an oom error? 4) When I have let this whole swap death thing just go on, it eventually stops by killing some part of firefox and getting some more memory back. Usually it kills the extensions part of firefox. But why does it take so long? 5) There is no warning that my system is running out of memory. I feel like each of the above is a different bug, at a certain level, and they are all coming together and crashing my system. I filed this bug against firefox because, on irc, it was suggested as a place to start. [Bug 1673649] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()
I've been getting this when waking from sleep. I have a weird experience before with sleep on this computer, where I was running linux mint 18.something, and I noticed that it wasn't going to sleep all the time. It was a weird thing where opening the laptop when a sleep was already initiated would pause the sleep from happening even if the laptop was closed again. I was playing with this, opening and closing the laptop when I noticed some errors. It wasn't recovering, and things were getting weird, so I decided to reboot... I never did boot off that ssd again. Luckily, I was able to read ALL the data off the drive, just couldn't write to it, or boot off it. So I'm not going to test this. Maybe there is some weird hw bug. [Bug 1367827] [NEW] 14.04 kernel oops
Public bug reported: hey guys. So I have been getting this kernel oops on an old laptop on 14.04. It is a laptop new to my posession, so I don't have a lot of experience with it. I believe it was running mainly windows xp before, and had an old but unused Ubuntu install on it as well. I first encountered it when trying to wipe the machine and install 14.04 xubuntu from scratch. I assumed that maybe it is because the laptop is old, maybe the memory was bad, I dunno. I replaced the memory, same error. I installed the server edition of ubuntu, and the install actually worked. This current bug is being filed from that install, where I installed xubuntu-desktop^ from the command line. I installed google- chrome, and then tried to open chrome, then the oops again. I have also installed 10.04 and 12.04, and both installs went fine. Since the 14.04 kernel oops happened early in the install process, I'm inclined to believe that those earlier versions are working, and that this is a regression from 12.04->14.04. I will attach a copy of dmesg which shows the oops, in case it isn't already included. yeah, it looks like the upstream author is changing over to non- microsoft ftps, even though the regular ftp.microsoft.com seems to be working (ie, works for me). [Bug 862785] Re: Default sampling_down_factor setting for ondemand governor cripples Intel turbo boost
I can comment on this. First off, sampling_down_factor = 1 disables the feature, so it is a bit the opposite of what you describe. I believe what's happening is that ondemand can fail for certain cpu's (including mine), and instead of amping up the frequency under heavy load, it will resonate the frequency, switching it up and down. sampling_down_factor delays, geometrically, how fast ondemand will down scale the frequency, and can thus reduce this issue. >From the patch author: "Set to 1 it makes no changes from existing behavior, >but set to greater than 1 (e.g. 100) it acts as a multiplier for the >scheduling interval for reevaluating load when the CPU is at its top speed due >to high load. This improves performance by reducing the overhead of load evaluation and helping the CPU stay at its top speed when truly busy, rather than shifting back and forth in speed. This tunable has no effect on behavior at lower speeds/lower CPU loads." It's been awhile since I've looked at this, but running a few javascript tests, it looks like I still have this issue. I guess I need to work this tunable myself! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/862785 Title: Default sampling_down_factor setting for ondemand governor cripples Intel turbo boost To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ports-meta/+bug/862785/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin
I think technically, this bug is of high importance: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance You can't adjust sound, which is core functionality. The workaround is easy only if you happen to be looking at this bug report. I suspect that by easy, the guide means that an uneducated user could find a workaround, just by playing around. Please don't change the importance as the release nears. Please just set it correctly. Low means ignore potentially forever. High means, fix at least before release. [Bug 1075974] [NEW] nvidia driver install fails, etc, etc
Public bug reported: I used the the software sources to install the nvidia drivers (updates version), and it failed. I have noticed several things that are buggy- ish. I'll just list them off, leave it to you to find the bug. BTW, this is a fresh 64bit install, and I am willing to do a clean install to re-test if that helps. - X seems to start, along with network-manager. Unity does not. - The software sources installer reported success, even though I could tell the install failed by checking `dkms status` - headers package was missing, and that was the issue according to `dkms autoinstall` - 'linux-headers' is a virtual package and an unenforced dependency for dkms I feel like each of those things could be regarded as a bug. I leave that to someone else. Ultimately, the driver failed to install. FWIW, I already fixed the issue by installing linux-headers-generic, and running `dkms autoinstall`, and that was the state when I file this report. If it helps, I am happy to reinstall and re-test, or just remove the drivers/headers and retest. [Bug 1072819] [NEW] disconnected drive stalls boot: prompt can be hidden
Public bug reported: the boot pauses if I have a drive disconnected. There is a prompt asking to skip mounting the drive, but that prompt disappears if you exit the splash screen and go back. So, either the boot shouldn't pause, or the prompt should remain shown. The drive is just extra storage, and not essential for boot, ie, /home / /boot are all available on the primary drive There are two fstab entries for the disconnected drive The prompt disappears if I switch away the little splash screen, either with ctrl+alt+F#, or esc. [Bug 1045993] Re: remove chromium 18
I hope you can understand that this policy is frustrating for everyone involved with chromium. There are already uptodate builds of chromium available, as I already pointed out. I can only imagine that the devs get frustrated when users complain about issues in abandoned versions. I know first hand that those that volunteer to support chromium are frustrated because of all the bogus complaints and bug reports based on outdated versions - that they continually have to say the same thing over and over "please update". Anyway, could you at least link to the bug report that describes the blocking issues for at least getting the ppas going again? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045993 Title: remove chromium 18 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1045993/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 896571] Re: fails to boot, 2.6.38-12
During the process of trying to collect those boot logs, I think I figured out what the problem was: I didn't have linux-headers-generic installed. Thus, dkms was failing to compile the nvidia module, thus Xorg failed to load. Strange enough, apt does not seem to be enforcing the depends that nvidia-current has on linux-headers-generic. (It makes sense that I might lose the package since I use an automated tool like debfoster to clear out orphaned packages and programs from time to time). I really don't know. The package info from `apt-cache show nvidia-current` has allot of Modaliases info in it, which seems weird. [Bug 598627] Re: driver doesn't build for kernel not running
Hey Mario, The kernel I put together has the same packaging as the vanilla kernel, to the best of my ability, and as far as I can tell. It has been awhile since I have run into this, and I don't remember exactly what the issue was. Right now, the custom kernel installs fine, and uses the driver fine, etc. Looking that nvidia-current.postinst, this still looks like it will be an issue when the graphics driver is upgraded. nvidia-current.postinst only installs the driver for the currently running kernel. So anyone running more than one kernel will have an issue, not just those running a custom kernel. I completely understand that this affects only a small minority of users. I hope you don't mind that I will continue to use this bug to track whatever the best solution is. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/598627 Title: driver doesn't build for kernel not running To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dkms/+bug/598627/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
