During the process of trying to collect those boot logs, I think I figured out what the problem was: I didn't have linux-headers-generic installed. Thus, dkms was failing to compile the nvidia module, thus Xorg failed to load.
Strange enough, apt does not seem to be enforcing the depends that nvidia-current has on linux-headers-generic. (It makes sense that I might lose the package since I use an automated tool like debfoster to clear out orphaned packages and programs from time to time). I really don't know. The package info from `apt-cache show nvidia-current` has allot of Modaliases info in it, which seems weird. Let me know if you think there is a bug in all that that is worth pursuing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/896571 Title: fails to boot, 2.6.38-12 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/896571/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
