[Bug 446674] Re: [RV200] [M7 LW] no more stellarium or googleearth with mesa 7.6 with Radeon Mobility 7500 1002:4c57

2010-05-05 Thread DavidYerger
Hi, I have the Mobility 7500 Radeon chip (in a Dell Latitude C640) and
vaguely remember having this problem when I upgraded to Karmic - looks
like I installed the X Retro PPA at that time.

Just upgraded to lucid, I can start Stellarium but it's really slow,
also 3-D games are slow again.

[Bug 418617] Re: Allow laptop users to use select mic

2010-04-23 Thread DavidYerger
I installed the backports package, now I can record (on my Dell Studio
1557, uses the IDT 92HD73C1X5 codec), but now I can't play back
anything.  Aarrgh.

[Bug 418617] Re: Allow laptop users to use select mic

2010-04-23 Thread DavidYerger
Disregard #41, apparently when I switched drivers the HDMI output got
selected as the output device, I switched it back.

Now, for recording, there doesn't seem to be a manual way to control
which mic is used, but automatic detection seems to work. If a mic is
plugged in, the Digital Mic slider doesn't do anything, the Mic slider
does. With the external mic unplugged, the Digital [mic] slider does
something, the Mic slider doesn't. Which makes sense.

[Bug 34155] Re: Suspend-To-Ram (S3) doesn't work on Dell Latitude C640

2009-05-05 Thread DavidYerger
What happened in the last few boots regarding my attachment earlier:

* standby
* successful resume
* standby
* bad resume (vertical colored stripes, corrupted cursor)
* forced power off and normal start
* hibernate
* locked up on restart
* tried earlier kernel to bypass hibernation stuff, didn't work
* disabled splash and quiet in GRUB boot line, booted.

Also attaching suspend log, maybe that will help.

[Bug 34155] Standby (S1) doesn't work either

2008-01-14 Thread DavidYerger
Recently waking up from Standby (S1) gives a screen with a white line,
and the area under it eerily gets brighter, kind of like a mood ring...

I changed the parameter in gconf to hibernate instead:
  1. I get a notification that hibernation failed when it wakes up
  2. The external drive doesn't wake up
  3. The network adapter didn't wake up last time (/etc/init.d/networking
restart didn't help), last one might be related to me having a wireless card
in, usually this works

[Bug 34155] Re: Suspend-To-Ram (S3) doesn't work on Dell Latitude C640

2008-01-03 Thread DavidYerger
Whoopsie--sorry Erik, I only tested hibernate.

Suspend worked for me twice (with the exception of an external drive),
then locked me up with a striped screen on the third try after waiting
longer.

I think I read somewhere that the problem might be with the video chip.
Maybe I should try the ati driver instead of radeon.
DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH might help if that's the problem, too.

Also, read here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=211592 on how
to get suspend to work, seems to work fine for me, but it's cheating
with regard to the present topic as it drops into S1 not S3 sleep.

HTH

[Bug 180270] Can't disable 640x480

2008-01-03 Thread DavidYerger
Public bug reported:

Dell Latitude C640 with the 1024x768 panel can only sync 800x600 and
1024x768

However, when I hand-edit xorg.conf to only have those modes for the
display, 640x480 still shows as available, which causes problems with
SDL games which try to set fullscreen (get wavy images)

[Bug 34155] Re: sleep and hibernate don't work on Dell C640 (regression from breezy)

2007-12-30 Thread DavidYerger
Problem is buggy Dell BIOS, specifically the ACPI DSDT.

Given there is no hope for Dell to fix this, the workaround is you need
to get a hacked ACPI DSDT table from

http://acpi.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/FixedDsdts

, compile it, and slap it on the back of your initrd.

Works for me. I understand if your hardware is different than the one
the hacked DSDT was created from, you may have to extract yours, and
then manually patch vs. the given vanilla DSDT.

Now, to the good folks at Ubuntu, you could of course put a post-install
script in with the kernel RPM to do hack the generic initrd thusly if
the system is detected to be a C640, but I fully understand if you
wouldn't want to do that.

[Bug 25500] Re: Dell Latitude C640 touchpad conflicts with PS/2 mouse

2007-11-11 Thread DavidYerger
This is still a problem with Gutsy - actually NO mouse works (even a USB
one) until the synaptics + tracpoint mice are turned off in BIOS setup
(then the USB mouse works fine)

My guess is this is probably an xorg bug in how it handles multiple
pointing devices - the devices are being multiplexed in /dev/input/mice
but they use different protocols.

This CAN work, see http://zwering.adsl.utwente.nl/index.php?menuID=5,
but the solution there doesn't work any more, tried pasting in xorg.conf
but no difference.
