[Bug 2080841] Re: Upgrading from Jammy to Noble removes ppp and freeradius packages
I would not say that ppp and pppoe are random packages. Both are needed to access the internet for me. There are ISPs out there who are using pppoe to give access to the internet. So if those are removed then ->no internet->no access to download ppp/pppoe->no internet->catch 22. Freeradius is also used to authenticate every client on the lan to access wifi. Freeradius was installed as is: apt-get install freeradius. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080841 Title: Upgrading from Jammy to Noble removes ppp and freeradius packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/2080841/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2080841] [NEW] Upgrading from Jammy to Noble removes ppp and freeradius packages
Public bug reported: So.. I upgraded from Jammy to Noble just now, and during the upgrade I noticed the internet was gone. Saw loglines like this: Sep 16 12:01:14 gw systemd[1]: pppoe.service: Control process exited, code=exited, status=203/EXEC Sep 16 12:01:14 gw systemd[1]: pppoe.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'. Sep 16 12:01:14 gw systemd[1]: Failed to start pppoe.service - PPPoE connection. But I thought it is just how the upgrade process is, so went on with it. After the upgrade was done, rebooted, and I noticed still no internet. dpkg -l | grep ppp showed that the ppp package was completely missing. _Fortunately_ I was prepared and had an usb stick handy with ALL the packages AND dependent libs to ppp and pppoe, so I could manually install them back on with dpkg -i. The upgrade process also removed the freeradius package which is also used for all the devices to access the internet through wireless. part of /var/log/dist-upgrade/screenlog.0: Remove: freeradius libev4 libevent-2.1-7 libgetdns10 ppp This is a major issue imho, since If I hadn't got that usb stick with all the necessary packages I would be writing this now... ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: docker.io (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080841 Title: Upgrading from Jammy to Noble removes ppp and freeradius packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/2080841/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1814555] [NEW] Ubuntu boot failure. 4.18.0-14 boot stalls. (does not boot)
Public bug reported: Today my Ubuntu (18.10) did an auto-upgrade to 4.18.0-14-generic, requested a reboot, and was unable to boot. After the "Starting Load/Save RF Kill Switch Status..." line it is waiting forever. (Or/and doing something behind the scenes. After a while, even the HDD indicator led go out.) This is a permanent error, so kernel 4.18.0-14 does NOT boot. I was able to boot with kernel 4.18.0-13. (By pressing Shift when grub starts.) My configuration is "nothing fancy", possibly-except the locale (ISO-8859-2, hu and en), Xcfe4, gdm3, gnome-screensaver. I have already upgraded to the latest packages. [Bug 1781049] Re: WiFI hard blocked after resuming laptop (RTL 8723BE)
Hello! I've tested the rc1 release kernel (4.19.0-041900rc1-generic), and sure enough, the bug persists. WiFi hard-blocked after suspend-resume. Driver issues can be ruled out as I've installed a new wifi card form intel (Wireless 3165, iwlwifi driver: 4.19.0-041900rc1-generic, firmware: 29.1044073957.0) and the problem exists with both the cards, on both the kernel versions. As far as I know, from dmesg, reports that some hardware switch is being flipped, while there is none on my model (HP AB035TX - Manual here [0]). The 'Airplane Mode' key only works on soft blocks. Any solutions are really helpful! Thank you very much for your time! [Bug 1781049] Re: WiFI hard blocked after resuming laptop (RTL 8723BE)
All the above are BEFORE I sent the system to sleep and resumed it. All the below comments are after I suspended (sleep) the system for a few minutes and then resumed it. ** Description changed: I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 18.04 and everything seems to work fine, till I suspended and resumed the laptop. After resume, the wifi is hard blocked is rfkill. Reinstalling drivers, different drivers, nothing helped. All this was done under Secure Boot disabled under Ubuntu and BIOS (UEFI). The WiFI card is Realtek 8723BE. laptop is HP AB035TX Pavilion 15. If any further info is required, I'll add it on notification. I am familiar with Linux, any help will be really appreciated. P.S: If this wifi card is the issue, please suggest some PCI-mini card that will work with my Ubuntu, even after suspend and resume (Ideally a 2.4/5G + BT 5.0) Thank you all! --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: mythreya 1281 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: mythreya 1281 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: KDE DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 IfupdownConfig: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-06-26 (16 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180426) IpRoute: default via 192.168.1.1 dev wlo1 proto dhcp metric 600 169.254.0.0/16 dev wlo1 scope link metric 1000 192.168.1.0/24 dev wlo1 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.6 metric 600 Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:b006 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. [Bug 1769838] Re: Input source options does not work on Bionic with gnome-flashback
(I don't know how to edit a comment so here's a new one) Should have read more about this mutter thingy. It seems to be a window manager for Gnome 3, which is metacity for Gnome 2. So libmutter could not be used for gnome-flashback probably... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1769838 Title: Input source options does not work on Bionic with gnome-flashback To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-flashback/+bug/1769838/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1769838] Re: Input source options does not work on Bionic with gnome-flashback
Thanks! Looking at these briefly I can see why this was not implemented at first. As far as I can tell it is hard to tell which window has the focus right now. The .js version uses libmutter mutter-3.28.1/src/core/display-private.h, which has an interesting comment on this: " /* Our best guess as to the "currently" focused window (that is, the * window that we expect will be focused at the point when the X * server processes our next request), and the serial of the request * or event that caused this. */ MetaWindow *focus_window; " so it is already a best guess only. Maybe gnome-flashback should depend on libmutter and use this MetaDisplay's MetaWindow to get the currently focused window? Or maybe there is an easier way using gdk/gtk to get the currently focused window? IDK. Unfortunately this does not seem to be a trivial issue unfortunately...

All I can remember is that I was fiddling with the partitions. At first I was very surprised that there was no 'Encrypt Home' option. So I thought.. ok then, encrypt the whole disk. But then it also checked the use LVM option which I don't want. Why would a simple desktop user want LVM anyways? So went with the third option, manual partitions. I was pressing every button you can imagine there to have encrypted disk with separate root and home partitions (revert, new partition table, plus, minus, change) up until it finally accepted and let me through (thinking I was able to puzzle the right partitions together). Next I chose the timezone, and just when I started to type my username on the next page it crashed. You can check all the fiddlings in the logs OFC. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1764405 Title: Installer crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1764405/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1325525] [NEW] Missing 53-monospace-lcd-filter.conf from /etc/fonts/conf.d
Public bug reported: I've just installed Ubuntu-trusty, and noticed that in Thunderbird the fonts are rendered incorrectly. It seemed that the problem is with sub- pixel rendering. After much googling and finding nothing I've started to compare the /etc/fonts/conf.d dir on my Precise machin with the trusty one. I noticed that on trusty the 53-monospace-lcd-filter.conf file is missing from the conf.d dir, but is available in the conf.avail. After I created the symlink and rebooted, my thunderbird font rendering became normal again. But now if I start from something from the terminal it says: "Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/53-monospace-lcd-filter.conf", line 10: Having multiple values in isn't supported and may not work as expected" So the 1st question, why did you leave out the monospace-lcd-filter.conf from the fontconfig conf.d, and the second is why didn't you update it so it won't complaing about the multiple test tags.
