I'm here to report a similar issue. But what distinguishes my case from
all of you is that I formatted 16.04 straight from live media. I never
upgraded from 14.04.

[Bug 1571295] Re: pptpd module config loaded at wrong location

2016-06-30 Thread Drone4four
Check this out:

Bash $ locate pptpd.conf
/etc/pptpd.conf
/lib/modprobe.d/pptpd.conf
/usr/share/man/man5/pptpd.conf.5.gz
/var/lib/dpkg/info/pptpd.conffiles
/var/tmp/mkinitramfs_wjbMMF/etc/modprobe.d/pptpd.conf

@ironstorm, like you, my /etc/modprobe.d/pptpd.conf doesn't exist and
/lib/modules-load.d/ doesn't exist either. But inside /lib/modprobe.d/
is pptd.conf . There is only one line in that configuration file which
simply reads: nf_nat_pptp . So I invoked: sudo mv
/lib/modprobe.d/pptpd.conf /lib/modprobe.d/pptpd.conf.bak That fixed my
issue.

It’s also important to note that a few weeks ago I set up a VPN with
Private Internet Access being my VPN service provider. I used a few
guides but I don’t remember which one instructed me to create a
pptpd.conf . For the better part of the last half hour I went on a
search party through bookmarks and Chrome history for the guide, no
dice. I don’t know why I created that file. But after moving the file
to /lib/modprobe.d/pptpd.conf.bak , $ sudo apt-get upgrade works without
the errors reported here.

[Bug 1573324] Re: something to do with UEFI and backwards compatibilty

2016-04-26 Thread Drone4four
Thanks for the clarification, psusi. After aborting the incomplete
installation procedure, upon reboot 16.04 booted just fine and the only
other O/S on my SSD was Windows 7, all of which is perfectly accessible
now, even with an EFI mode installation (that could have been BIOS mode
instead).

[Bug 209974] Re: Xubuntu Hardy live installer doesn't detect HDD partitions

dmsuperman: how exactly did you add a few mb of unallocated space
between partitions? fdisk can't perform those tasks and GParted and
Partition Magic only see unallocated space?

TestDisk doesn't recognize any problems now and gparted and ubiquity

is really frustrating for me. =/

Like arminbw pointed out, here is my forum thread in which I am waiting
for someone to post a work around:

[Bug 209974] Re: Xubuntu Hardy live installer doesn't detect HDD partitions

2008-04-27 Thread Drone4four
calc, in #ubuntu-bugs,refering to this bug report said that, colin
watson or evan d is the most likely person to be able to fix it. On
irc, apparently colin is known as cjwatson and evan is known as
evand. calc said that I could message the two developers. calc also
said that I could test their custom spin before the fix is made to the
8.04.1 release.

One more thing: The partition program used for the Anaconda installer
for Fedora 8 and Fedora 9 preview release didn't detect any partitions.

Therefore, here is a list of apps that do NOT recognize my partitions:
+ Ubiquity
+ Partition Magic 8.0
+ GParted
+ Fedora 8 + 9 Anaconda installer

Here is a list of apps that DO recognize all my partitions:
+ Slackware 12 installer
+ fdisk -l
+ Nautilus (or what ever automatically mounts the hard discs in the Hardy
Ubuntu LiveCD
+ Windows XP
+ TestDisk

btw: good research arminbw. =D It appears as though this bug has been
around since 2004. Let's squash it once and for all.

[Bug 158148] mpeg, wmv playback in totem and MPlayer locks up PC

2007-10-28 Thread Drone4four
Public bug reported:

I don't know what causes it, but after a few hours of using Ubuntu
Gutsy, wmv, avi and mpeg playback fails. I hear sound, but I can't see
the video. All i see in my Totem media player or MPLayer is pink and
yellow gibberish. My current work around is to restart x w/ CTRL + ALT
+ Backspace. That temporarily fixes the problem. So for example, let's
say I I restart x. I start watching some .mpeg video files. I click
maximize and compiz fusion locks up. CTRL + ALT + F1-F6 doesn't work.
Restarting x doesnt work. I had to reboot my computer. This is
definitely a serious bug.

Ah ha! playback is only messed up when compiz fusion is running. If I
