As asked in #27, on my fully updated system, I've created ~/.config/upstart/unity-panel-service.conf, and then rebooted. However, with both options "started" and "starting", menus still doesn't works on a fresh boot. I've rebooted several times with both options, and there's no menu present in Nautilus or Gedit. However, menus always works in Chromium. However, other programs seems to work OK. As a sidenote: I've reinstalled Kubuntu in same computer, using same partitioning schema. however, I've kept English language at the beginning. That way, there is no keyboard error, and installation finish successfully. Seems the error is related to Spanish language. Just an update In same machine, I've installed: sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic-lts-trusty linux-image-generic-lts-trusty After that, I've rebooted with that kernel: 3.13.0-62-generic Once rebooted, VirtualBox works OK, and all VMs works as expected. If I reboot again with vivid kernel, VirtualBox stops working. Using original package virtualbox-4.1_4.1.12-77245~Ubuntu~precise_amd64.deb from upstream gives exactly the same error.
