[Bug 1438809] Re: Screen blinking and input resetting on 945GM

2015-05-08 Thread Edwin Pujols
Hello, townsend. Sorry for the delay.

The problem is manifesting in the live image, I confirmed it with
yesterdays' live image (I haven't tried on bare metal). Please, tell me
if there's anything else I can provide.

[Bug 1438809] [NEW] Screen blinking and input resetting on 945GM

2015-03-31 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

Following the suggestion made by townsend in bug 1434712. I managed to
log into Unity 8.

Now when I try to move windows around or when I open the indicators menu
the screen blinks. When the blink occurs the pointer releases the
window I had grabbed and the indicator menu closes automatically.

The blinking seem to be related to me clicking with the mouse, but most
of the time the screen blinks without me having to do anything.

My graphics card is Intel's 945GM.

[Bug 1411972] [NEW] systemd service blocks upgrade on desktop

2015-01-17 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

When powerd is installed on the desktop, upgrading it fails given that
`lxc-android-config.service` doesn't exist: dpkg aborts the upgrade on
the final steps since it cannot restart `lxc-android-config`.

I had powerd installed because I recognized that some Unity 7 packages
suggested it (I installed from a mini iso).

[Bug 1273764] Re: Grub ignores options on /etc/default/grub

2015-01-05 Thread Edwin Pujols
@psusi, Please look in /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober. In particular, the last
line reads:

 adjust_timeout

And the definition of `adjust_timeout` is:

 adjust_timeout () {
  if [ $quick_boot = 1 ]  [ x${found_other_os} != x ]; then
 cat EOF
 set timeout_style=menu
 if [ \${timeout} = 0 ]; then
   set timeout=10
 fi
 EOF
   fi
 }

As you can see the `timeout` variable is set/reset to 10 (seconds).

[Bug 1390768] [NEW] Mouse click position is wrong

2014-11-08 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

When I click somewhere in the w3m window the cursor is positioned 1 row
right and 1 column down from the actual mouse pointer position. This is
annoying.

For example,

if I click the x the cursor moves to the (where I expected it to
move to the x).

Luckily I managed to work around this by patching the function
process_mouse(), with something like if (x  0) x--;. (I don't think
this is right, though...)

[Bug 1131835] Re: compiz crashed with SIGABRT in __libc_message()

2014-09-02 Thread Edwin Pujols
I am on Utopic and apport redirected me to this bug report.

In my case, compiz crashes when I maximize the Devhelp window and then
try to minimize it via the panel buttons. (Devhelp on Utopic uses
GtkHeaderBar, hence it does not have a minimize button on the main
interface.)

[Bug 1224732] Re: Custom default keyboard shortcuts don't work

2014-07-04 Thread Edwin Pujols
@mspacek Notice that I reported this bug against Unity/GNOME 3 not
against Xfce4. Unless you can prove that the bugs are coming from the
same /common/ code (shared by both projects), it would be nicer if you
reported a new bug against Xfce4.

IIRC, last time a used Trusty/Utopic the original bug wasn't present and
I've never had any problem with the default shortcuts (either on Unity
or Xfce4). And for that matter, I've never had problems with Xfce4
custom keyboard shortcuts. So please, report a new bug against Xfce4 if
it haven't been filed before.

[Bug 1289809] Re: Grub theme: black screen with purple border

2014-05-20 Thread Edwin Pujols
I believe this comment might provide a workaround to the no access to
GRUB options problem:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1273764/comments/8

It's about another bug in which grub ignores the timeout options in
/etc/default/grub

Happened to me while using trusty (installed on hardware). I had press

[Bug 1293548] Re: Indicator disappears when switching to non default layout

2014-04-04 Thread Edwin Pujols
@joecarey, That gray/difficult to read icon is with the non-default icon
theme (Numix in my case). I checked and ubuntu-mono doesn't have this
problem (both icons use white background). Consider advising the Numix
Project about this.

the indicator vanishes too).

@attente Oh! Sorry, the problem was caused by the theme I was using.
Ambiance and Radiance don't have this problem. I'll mark the bug as

2014-03-16 Thread Edwin Pujols
@gunnarhj Uh, I got confused and set this bug to Fix released but this
one is more general than mine.

Also about bug #1288843, I believe the format string should use small
case a.m. and p.m., at least in Spanish, I believe that previous
releases used lower case before this bug... But, as I cannot seem to
find a reliable source be free to dismiss this suggestion.

Please, check out bug #1283621, which I filed (not sure if it's a

Re: [Bug 1289809] Re: Grub theme: black screen with purple border

2014-03-08 Thread Edwin Pujols
OK, I also thought that at first. But when I tried with the fix, the
purple frame disappeared:

- With timeout=0, the screen was purely black (good)
- With timeout0, the background was purple under the menu (good)

I'll check again.

I don't think this is a bug; the effect of clearing the screen after
successfully setting the background_color should, AIUI, be precisely to
refresh the screen with the background color (as opposed to only using
the background color when drawing more text to the screen). But
assigning to Colin, who (as grub maintainer and author of the code in
question) will be able to answer more authoritatively.

[Bug 1289809] Re: Grub theme: black screen with purple border

2014-03-08 Thread Edwin Pujols
Yep, after testing it again I can confirm the frame is drawn before the
grub menu is presented (or when timeout=0). With the negation this does
not happen: background is continuous on one or other color, the right
thing (tm).

Thank you! That's good enough for me.

Thank you for your time, Gunnar :-)

I didn't know about the locale specific situation, I thought that 12h +
AM/PM was a set.

[Bug 1288843] Re: AM/PM string missing on Spanish locales

2014-03-07 Thread Edwin Pujols
Notice that my main preoccupation is wrt to the _latin alphabet_
(Spanish, English, Portuguese, ...). In languages/locales with this
alphabet, I strongly believe that having the AM/PM format string makes
more sense than waiting for a bug report being filed.

1. In this bug report I am speaking about es_do in particular, but my
worries lie with latin alphabet locales in general.

2. - Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (in the Eventos lower-right tab):
http://uasd.edu.do/index.php/es/

- Ministerio de Educación (in the copyright at the bottom and in the
Servicios y Consultas tab):
http://www.minerd.gob.do/Pages/inicio.aspx

3. In indicator-datetime, if you don't have the AM/PM string it looks
unpolished and inaccurate. This is accentuated when the installation defaults
to 12h format.

FWIW, notice that I am not aware of an international attempt to send the
12h format to oblivion. If so, at the very least the installation image
should default to 24h format for all (latin alphabet) locales (since,
IMO, 12h format without AM/PM doesn't look right or polished).

@john It does mean something... It means that unless we are providing a

possible workarounds.

Re: [Bug 1255558] Re: Can't type my password after cold boot

2014-03-03 Thread Edwin Pujols
Please don't add more Me too comments, it's only adding to the noise. As
you can see the bug has been marked as Triaged (there's enough
information for a developer to act on it). Now, let's be patient.

Workaround: Open a menu, be it righting clicking on the password entry or
opening one of the indicators on the top right. The password entry should
be responsive afterwards.

[Bug 1283627] [NEW] High CPU usage after unmounting

2014-02-22 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

Context: I have my Ubuntu installation on a portable disk, and another
installation on the internal disk.

If I unmount a partition via the side panel little arrows, Nautilus
starts using 100% of one CPU (core). I wait a few minutes, but the CPU
usage doesn't decrease (checked it with top). Notice that the partition
is unmounted successfully.

I noticed this bug after I tried unmounting a partition: Nautilus
presented me a dialog, and the side panel device buttons became
unresponsive for a particular device (everything else was OK). I guess
this might be a separate bug.

[Bug 1283112] [NEW] Locally-integrated menus (LIM) stick to recently restored window even when disabled

2014-02-21 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

If I maximize a window and then restore it, the LIM will appear on the
title bar even when the option is disabled under Appearance. The menus
will disappear if I open a new window (of any application).

**Steps to reproduce**

 - Open Firefox
 - Maximize it
 - Restore it (via dragging, key binding, or button).

If you hover over the title bar the LIM is drawn. If you open a new
window and focus it, the LIM will be gone.

2014-02-17 Thread Edwin Pujols
Tried u-s-c (with ubuntu-desktop-mir). At first I got a blank screen,
but after running `sudo restart lightdm` I was able to log into Unity.
The fonts looks a a bit weird and some apps (Firefox, VLC, file

The fonts looks a a bit weird and some apps (Firefox, VLC, file

removed these packages with `remove --auto-remove` and rebooting,
lightdm wouldn't start (and I was presented with the Low graphics
dialog). So for now I'll have to use XMir.

Just did a dist-upgrad (maybe the last one got interrupted, or this is a
new update), and the fonts look good again and gnome-settings-daemon
started fine (no theming issue). The blank screen persists, and I still
need to restart lightdm as a workaround.

[Bug 1224732] Re: Custom keyboard shortcuts don't work

2014-02-15 Thread Edwin Pujols
As Markus says, xim worked at first, but now (on trusty) it stops
working in certain circumstances. I made it work by switching with ibus,
logging out, and switching back then I restarted (I guess logging out
would have done it, though). But it stopped working when I switched
tty's by pressing Ctrl+Alt+12.

[Bug 1276562] [NEW] Xserver removed after upgrade (2014-02-04)

2014-02-05 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

I am on trusty-proposed.

After last of upgrade of date (2014-02-04 01:47 UTC) the
Xserver/Xorg/X11 package was removed automatically. I did a `dist-
upgrade` (without autoremove). I noticed this when lightdm didn't start.

I then installed `ubuntu-deskop` in order to pull the Xserver (I had
removed libreoffice previously). LightDM was able to start and log me
into the graphical shell, but compiz failed with this message

compiz --replace
compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: core
compiz (core) - Info: Starting plugin: core
compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: ccp
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to load plugin: ccp

I'll try to restarting, for now.

I attach my apt history and dpkg log. (Notice that the times are
localized to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, about 4 hours _less_
than UTC.)

[Bug 1276562] Re: Xserver removed after upgrade (2014-02-04)

2014-02-05 Thread Edwin Pujols
After restarting:

1. plymouthd reported a crash via apport. apport told me that the bug
has already been reported, never happened to me before. (Anyways, I
don't have permissions to see the bug reported.)

2. LigthDM failed to start on its own, had to `sudo restart lightdm`. I
attach its log file.

I'll restart with the previous kernel...

the timeout that grub will ignore, recently I changed the style to
countdown but the menu is still shown.
