[Bug 1872311] Re: Brightness hotkeys not working on Lenovo S740

2021-08-10 Thread Elias Julkunen
Thanks for the suggestion. However, this does not make any difference. I
ran also "watch -n1 cat /proc/interrupts", "acpi_listen" and "sudo
showkey -s" and no reaction to brightness hotkeys whereas volume hotkeys
work and that also shows up when running these commands.

Sorry, I mixed secure boot to UEFI etc. After disabling secure boot, I
have been using mainline kernel 5.9.6-050906-generic for a while now in
Ubuntu 20.04 and the touchpad has always worked. Seems fixed there.

Just found out that this issue might be fixed in kernel 5.9. How could I
install 5.9 kernel and test this? I have secure boot enabled so the
mainline kernels are not working.

[Bug 1872311] Re: Brightness hotkeys not working on Lenovo S740

2020-04-23 Thread Elias Julkunen
Thanks, "sudo showkey -s" does not show anything for the brightness key
combination. Neither do the interrupts increase when the brightness key
combination is pressed. So I assume this cannot be fixed from the
software side.

The brightness keys are working on Windows. However, the laptop is quite
new so maybe the support just isn't there yet.

[Bug 1873587] [NEW] Display flickers a lot starting from grub and ending to desktop (Lenovo S740, Intel Core i7-1065G7)

2020-04-18 Thread Elias Julkunen
Public bug reported:

After going forward from grub, the display flickers a lot, continuing it
throughout the boot and even in GDM. The display flickers a few times in
the desktop, and after that, the flickering goes away.

So this is mainly a cosmetic thing as the flickering stops after logging
in and waiting for a bit. I have attached a video to this bug report
showing the whole process from the boot.

I use Lenovo Yoga S740 with Intel Core i7-1065G7 and Intel Iris graphics
(10th generation). I have not done any customizations to the
installation after updating to 20.04 from 19.10 a couple of weeks ago.

[Bug 1872311] Re: Brightness hotkeys not working on Lenovo S740

2020-04-18 Thread Elias Julkunen
Thanks for the comments. Please find attached the requested file (sudo
acpidump > acpi.log).

However, "watch -n1 cat /proc/interrupts" did not increase when I used
the Fn + F10/F11 (brightness) button. Contrast to that, the (working)
volume hotkeys increased the interrupts. I also ran "acpi_listen" and
same thing - nothing when brightness hotkeys were pressed, and the
correct input with volume hotkeys.

[Bug 1872333] [NEW] MSFT0001:01 touchpad randomly does not work after boot (Lenovo Yoga S740)

2020-04-12 Thread Elias Julkunen
Public bug reported:

About 50% of the Ubuntu 20.04 Ubuntu boots end up so that the touchpad
of my Lenovo Yoga S740 does not work (cursor does not move). External
mouse works even then. After one or two reboots the touchpad starts
working, and it works until the next boot, when it may not work again.

This seems very similar to this Lenovo Yoga S940 touchpad problem:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=252711

Attached (i2c_error.txt) is the output of "dmesg |grep i2c" on a boot
when the touchpad did not work. The main error message seems to be
"i2c_designware i2c_designware.1: controller timed out". The name of the
touchpad is "MSFT0001:01 06CB:CDB0 Touchpad" (from cat
/proc/bus/input/devices)

This bug report has been created on a boot where the touchpad does work.

FYI, on Windows, the touchpad has always worked without problems.

[Bug 1872311] [NEW] Brightness hotkeys not working on Lenovo S740

2020-04-12 Thread Elias Julkunen
Public bug reported:

Brightness hotkeys (Fn + F11 for decrease and Fn + F12 for increase) do
not work on Ubuntu 20.04 and Lenovo S740 laptop. The brightness hotkeys
did not work on 19.10 either.

I followed the guide here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting

In "Step-by-step Troubleshooting", none of the steps (1-7) did produce
any reaction to brightness change key combinations. However, I am able
to change the laptop screen brightness through the brightness applet.

[Bug 1677745] [NEW] Xcalib not working in any way

2017-03-30 Thread Elias Julkunen
Public bug reported:

There is a bug report in Debian already:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=851810
Not sure whether it helps to report it here, so just to be sure.

Using Ubuntu 17.04 Beta with latest updates, no matter what is done with
xcalib, there is the same error:
"Error - unsupported ramp size 0"

E.g. "xcalib -a -b .5" or "xcalib profile.icc".

I use xcalib to adjust both gamma and brightness (i.e. the level of
black, not brightness as in screen brightness). I haven't found any
other way to do this with a laptop, so if you know any, please tell me.

connect normally to any other network but not to my own modem. The
workaround is to use and external wifi modem. I wonder what the problem
actually is, because every other device (including few Ubuntu laptops
and a few Android devices) can connect to my modem, though.

2012-09-17 Thread Elias Julkunen
I tested the newest mainline kernel as well and it didn't make a
difference either and nor did the original 12.04 desktop cd (run on usb
stick).

[Bug 1051376] [NEW] Atheros AR9485 doesn't connect to a network although it's shown on the list

2012-09-15 Thread Elias Julkunen
Public bug reported:

When I installed Ubuntu 12.04, the wifi worked. After some updates
during a couple of weeks it stopped working.

I can see the wireless networks on the list of Network Manager, but when
I try to connect them, NM can't finish the connection. If the network is
secured by WPA, NM asks for a password. After I have entered the correct
password, NM stays trying to connect to the network forever. If the
network is open, unsecured, NM just seems to try to connect to the
network but never finishes.

I downloaded the daily desktop CD of 12.04 (15/8/2012) and I had the
same problem with it. I also downloaded and installed the latest stable
and unstable ath9k drivers, but they didn't help either. I want to just
say once more: the wireless worked perfectly with a fesh install of
12.04.

The strange thing is that I can connect via wifi to the network that my
phone (Nokia N9 with JoikuSpot) creates. The icon of the network on the
list in NM is a computer screen.

I'm happy to do more debugging if needed and told what exactly should be
done.

[Bug 729656] [NEW] Ubiquity windows doesn't fit to the netbook's 8, 9 screen

2011-03-05 Thread Elias Julkunen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 Alpha 3 Desktop CD. The installer works fine, but
it is a bit hard to use, because you have to move it up and down to see
everything. Maybe there should be scrollbars; that's one way to solve
this problem. I attach a screenshot as well.

Suspend is technically more correct than Sleep and I'd prefer that.
But the most important thing is that whatever name it is called, it is

Hyper-threading is one of the best things in Intel Atom and it makes your

hyper-threading.

This bug makes the boot experience very bad because the beautiful Ubuntu

[Bug 561734] Re: quadrapassel doesn't start: Failed to initialise clutter: Unable to select the newly created GLX context

2010-10-03 Thread Elias Julkunen
I solved the problem. Package libclutter-eglx-es20-1.0-0 was installed.
I replaced that package with package libclutter-1.0-0 and now
quadrapassel works.

I installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition from daily image shortly after beta
2. I guess that libclutter-eglx-es20-1.0-0 was default package, but I
checked now Ubuntu RC image and libclutter-1.0-0 will be installed
default, so everything should be okay.

@Linus, could you confirm that installing package libclutter-1.0-0 fixes
this bug?

[Bug 561734] Re: quadrapassel doesn't start: Failed to initialise clutter: Unable to select the newly created GLX context

2010-09-30 Thread Elias Julkunen
@Chris: I have installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition, but actually I use normal
Ubuntu interface, and I even removed unity.
Package libclutter-eglx-es20-1.0-0 is installed. Should I install some other
package? Maybe libclutter-eglx-es11-1.0-0?

I use Ubuntu 10.10 and I have Acer Aspire One with Intel graphics card.
I'm not absolutely sure if I have the same bug as you, but I can't start
Quadrapassel either. Here's what happens when I start it from command
line:

[Bug 640134] Re: cairo-dock with OpenGL crash after adding a second launch panel

2010-09-28 Thread Elias Julkunen
Good news!

Today I noticed that Cairo-Dock works. First I guessed that's because I
installed the newest mainline kernel (2.6.36-rc5), but actually it works
with the latest maverick kernel, too.

guisardo, could test if Cairo-Dock works for you as well with latest
updates? Anyway, strange bug.

[Bug 640134] Re: cairo-dock with OpenGL crash after adding a second launch panel

2010-09-27 Thread Elias Julkunen
Hi, I didn't realize that I should compile the bzr version – I just used ddd
with default Maverick package, version 2.2.0-2. Is it still necessary do that?
Unfortunately I haven't got any other computer now, so I can't test this with
Lucid.

Btw, I'm using now AWN and it's working well. Just if that gives you
some useful information.

I didn't find any information about that in logs, so I took a picture. I tried

[Bug 640134] Re: cairo-dock with OpenGL crash after adding a second launch panel

2010-09-25 Thread Elias Julkunen
This bug affects me too. I have Acer Aspire One AO110L. Cairo-Dock works
well without OpenGL, but when I start it with OpenGL, it starts in
maintenance mode. I attach log with this comment as well. I started
Cairo-Dock, then I applied settings and closed the maintenance window.
Then I closed Cairo-Dock. I hope this log helps.

work. But when I launch Cairo-Dock, it has black background, just like
compositing doesn't work. (watch the screenshot)

I tried also xorg-edgers ppa but the problem stayed same so I purged it.

When I start xcompmgr from command line, first there are no error
messages. But after I have started Cairo-Dock, some errors happen:

el...@elias-laptop:~$ xcompmgr
error 3 request 2 minor 0 serial 3863
error 3 request 20 minor 0 serial 3864
error 9 request 153 minor 1 serial 4198
error 3 request 20 minor 0 serial 4199
error 3 request 15 minor 0 serial 4200
error 9 request 153 minor 1 serial 7719
error 3 request 20 minor 0 serial 7720
error 3 request 15 minor 0 serial 7721
error 3 request 15 minor 0 serial 39000
error 3 request 15 minor 0 serial 43136

I have tried Compiz too, with Emerald, but it didn't work either.

I guess this is not xcompmgr bug but xorg bug, because I can't get
Compiz working either.

[Bug 325272] [NEW] Wrong depencies

2009-02-04 Thread Elias Julkunen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-web-photo

I had to install libxul-dev that I got gnome-web-photo working. I'm not
sure exactly sure what packages I needed, but the libxul-dev packages
was enough.

I'm using 64bit Jaunty.

I made about week ago Xubuntu Intrepid (daily) usb-stick with
unetbootin. It worked great, and I chose Finnish for my language.

[Bug 219900] Re: At sign doesn't work in Hardy 64bit Ubuntu

2008-06-07 Thread Elias Julkunen
Now it works!

I went to System -- Preferences -- Keyboard and then to the Layouts
tab. I selected layout options. I selected Alt/win key behavior to
default (default option wasn't default).
