[Bug 2064320] Re: gnome-control-center : unable to import a wireguard configuration from file
omg I've tried to import a new wireguard config from my VPN provider, but with a short filename; the import seemed to fail because the dialog closed immediately after selecting the file and the new VPN connection would not add to the list. Tried a second time and had a crash; submitted the report as suggested but it would come back again as a new crash repeatedly. I decided to reboot to try again fresh but now I have no networking altogether. No Ethernet device in /dev But lspci still reports my two Ethernet adapters. I look like I will have to wipe off this system again, start from scratch. :( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064320 Title: gnome-control-center : unable to import a wireguard configuration from file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/2064320/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2064364] [NEW] gnome-control-center: wireguard pair closes when loosing focus
Public bug reported: Just installed a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 LTS In gnome-control-center -> Network -> VPN -> + -> Wireguard -> Pairs -> + When adding a pair for the Wireguard connection, if the window looses focus (for example because we need do copy-paste from another window), the entire "pair" dialog closes and we loose as the info previously entered. [Bug 2064320] Re: gnome-control-center : unable to import a wireguard configuration from file
Whoa you nailed it. The code fails if the filename + extension is > 20 characters long. [Bug 1961630] [NEW] Thunderbolt display not working
Public bug reported: My Thinkpad X1 Gen4 (20Y5000QUS) using Ubuntu 21.10 is unable to connect to Thunderbolt monitor (BENQ PD2272OU). hat the french one was not the source of troubles ...) even only in the 1st stage grub ... it's almost impossible to access any grub menu (edit command or console) in grub (same level) or even in another child grub as the 2nd stage if grub gfxterm module is loaded too. So, for international users typing a strong passphrase is almost impossible without using something like "test123" or "qwerty123" and keeping access on any child grub. For me it's something like critical because I can use a secure installation with all partition/data encrypted but I can't type a strong passphrase (eg "C0udéeM+(@rpantÀ)") or access any child grub menu or console if any grub at_keyboard module is loaded (at a upper level or at same level) with a gfxterm module somewhere else (at same level or at a child level). ;terminal_input console" or removing gfxterm with "terminal_output console" resolved the situation but typing such command as set prefix=(memdisk), ... cryptomount -u xyzaabac, set root='lvmid/Eh2HHw-Bceq-VfsK-Kz01-kaeg-dRbz-Rwcntf/nVAE5f-GOrJ-wvu3-RTN0-mzAe-G4Oo-mzTQrN' and then passphrase without any typos erros at first attempt with a different keyboard layout was a real challenge. - => 2nd stage grub: Impossible to access grub menus, edit command and type command in the grub console with at_keybord eg: "terminal_input at_keyboard" is loaded even in 1st stage grub. + => 1st stage grub: Impossible to type strong passphrase as in test case [0] but this time it's because gfxterm and at_keyboard are loaded at the same time and each keystroke must be typed 7x or more times (sometimes more than 10 times + beep) to be taken into account, so impossible to know what you are typing because nothing is printed at screen while you type your password. By accessing grub minimal console due to a limited core.img and removing at_keybord with "terminal_input console" or removing gfxterm with "terminal_output console" resolved the situation but typing such command as set prefix=(memdisk), ... cryptomount -u xyzaabac, set root='lvmid/Eh2HHw-Bceq-VfsK-Kz01-kaeg-dRbz-Rwcntf/nVAE5f-GOrJ-wvu3-RTN0-mzAe-G4Oo-mzTQrN' and then the passphrase without any typos erros at first attempt with a different keyboard layout was a real challenge. + => 2nd stage grub: Impossible to access grub menus, edit command and type command in the grub console when at_keybord (eg: "terminal_input at_keyboard") is loaded even in 1st stage grub. [Bug 1853203] [NEW] 30 seconds boot delay when usr fs is on lvm
Public bug reported: A bit similar to "30 seconds boot delay when root fs is on lvm": https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lvm2/+bug/1807499 I installed Kubuntu 19.04 with 2 LVM volume groups (one per disk). My root and my /usr are both located on the same LVM. Mounting /usr takes 30s, but if I move the /usr to a non-LVM partition then the mounting takes no time and the whole boot process is very fast. In the script "scripts/local" of initramfs-tools, there is a 30s timeout called "slumber" passed to the "wait-for-root" program (from initramfs-tools-bin), and the wait comes from there (I could see it by adding traces before and after). If I decrease the timeout to 10s, the system can still boot correctly (and 20s faster). I don't know if the problem comes from the initramfs-tools scripts, from wait-for-root or from the integration in (K)Ubuntu. @Mike Many Thanks for your answer. The PCI-X is a 4 ports with 2 channels. The PCIe is 7 ports with an unknown number of channels. The PCI-X was intended to be used with a HP Proliant for external Backup purpose which is running Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS. No more PCIe slots are available because they are used by the Smart Array RAID Controller. I will try to revert back this weekend to 2.0.2.0 using the last survival Windows. Hello, I can't produce more log because kernel hangs at startup. Can't start computer without the PCI card and insert when powered on. @Mike, The card has firmware 2.0.2.6 which seems to the last version. She was provided with 2.0.2.0 and tried too with 2.0.2.4. I updated to the last version using Windows on an other computer which has PCI-X slots. I tested this PCI card on a Gigabyte mainboard and an HP Proliant mainboard and each time kernel hangs with the same error "Host halt failed, -19". If you have some links I can try to update firmware of the card with other releases. I have too the PCIe version based on the same chip "Renesas Technology Corp. uPD720201" and kernel is not hanging with the PCIe version. It seems to be related to the PCI/PCI-X. [Bug 1257153] Re: Option "AreaBottomEdge" ignores other areas when active
I have a similar issue with my click pad (Dell XPS 15). The issue is well described in the upstream project there: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66532 The patch suggested by one maintainer (Kit Westneat) fixes the issue as far as I am concerned, and I can finally keep my fingers on the buttons without blocking the mouse movement done with the other finger. I attach the (modified) patch to add to the package to solve the issue. To test: apt-get source xserver-xorg-input-synaptics cp path/to/fix_multitouch_outside_area.patch xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-1.8.2/debian/patches/ echo fix_multitouch_outside_area.patch >> xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-1.8.2/debian/patches/series cd xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-1.8.2 dpkg-buildpackage cd .. sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-input-synaptics_1.8.2-1ubuntu3_amd64.deb reboot and tell synaptics to ignore the bottom clickpad area: xinput set-prop 12 "Synaptics Area" 0, 0, 0, 800 Result: I can now keep my left thumb on the bottom left button while moving the cursor with the right hand. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #66532 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66532 ** Patch added: "fix_multitouch_outside_area.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1257153/+attachment/4813085/+files/fix_multitouch_outside_area.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1257153 Title: Option "AreaBottomEdge" ignores other areas when active To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1257153/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1241101]
So, after few tries in Virtual Machines to test different Debian/gtk versions, and other researches on the net, I found a workaround to make Luna work on my Debian laptop : export SWT_GTK3=0 That aims to fallback to the GTK2 SWT implementation and bring my Eclipse back! I was not on the right bug report, and found my way with a comment on bug #430736 https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=430736#c26 With that, it comes to me that the only solution, as i don't want to upgrade my glibc, is to fallback to GTK2... [Bug 1253361] Re: Printer driver installation freezes
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1248303 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1248303 I have the same problem with my Canon Pixma MP450 and Ubuntu 13.10 ! System-config-printer try to install gutenprint, but is gutenprint already installed ?!!! (it's one of the default packages) And it sits right there for all eternity. I think I could wait 2 years it will still not time out or something ... I rebooted, I tried on a fresh install, I tried to use the second option "Local Driver" and it's even worst ! "Forward" doesn't do anything ! The only way to make this printer install, is to click on gutenprint, then, you cancel very fast the gutenprint installation, then you have the traditional list of printers ! And now it's working ?!? (yes it does work !) Please fix your sh*t ubuntu devs ! Please make your modifications less random and untested. How in the world, is an option to bypass something (local driver) not even tested in real life ?! You are embarrassing everybody ! This printer should not even ask for a driver install, as it works perfectly with what is already there ! And why asking to install "openprinting-gutenprint" when gutenprint is already installed ?! What is the difference ? Please explain yourself ! Remove this "anti-feature" ... Because right there, it's not a feature, it's a bug, and a big one indeed ! It feels like somebody had a good idea but never had a canon printer handy to test with, or even to know if it worked. Man, it's tiring sometime to see all theses untested features ... I think the idea is for users with canon printer requiring proprietary drivers. And for that, it's good and neat. But if your only choice is gutenprint, ... to download and install gutenprint a second time, in case having one copy of gutenprint wasn't enough, it's bullsh*t !!! This choice shouldn't be there. Even if it worked properly ! It should be said, man, give a little more effort in your code ubuntu team, make it more error resilient, everything you do should be bypassed. It's a printer install wizard, why is this so badly butchered ! And it's not the first time we have something like that in Ubuntu, in fact, it's every time something new is coming from the ubuntu internal devs. Don't rely that much on the users to test things ! You are tiring them. If it's impossible to keep updating everything every 6 month, just stop this nonsense ! I'm using Ubuntu from 6.06, so I'm not a "quitter", but I know why one would want to stop caring about such a distribution and start searching somewhere else. Ubuntu should really start to "Eat is own dog food". That means, if you make a change, make it such that yourself or another developer can test it in real life with real hardware on the development release so most of the bugs are seen and fixed by someone that may know better. It's faster and way more reliable than making a modification in the dark, waiting for a user that had enough to shout his anger to you all, don't know what really appended that made this mess, and having to spend the time to read, understand and decrypt what the problem is. The fact is, despite the popularity of canon printers, I'm only the second one reporting that bug, nobody takes time nowadays to make a bug report if their is a workaround (in this case that is using cups web interface). It should warn you at how much of your users you have transformed in uncaring zombies. Even myself, as a long time ubuntu user, I feel like making a bug report is now becoming nothing else than wasting my time, waiting for something that will never appends, so might as well wait for the next release. Sometime I think as Ubuntu as a Linux distribution developed by peoples on their Macs ! Some bugs are sometime so blatant that it feels like nobody is using it, even the developers ! (I have a lot of bugs like that in mind, for example, when you open a .deb with the Software center, the home of the software center appears, then, after some more time, the deb installer pops up. It's soo confusing !! A new user will think that the packets was not opened properly ... So why is this already 3/4 releases with this bug. Is this that difficult to make a "Please wait" screen so the home screen don't show up ?!) So well, I'm rambling, but, I'm very very tired of this, Ubuntu is my work tool, and I make all I can do to make it more popular (I tell everyone interested with Linux, I make videos about it, I'm contributing to the french wiki about ubuntu, etc ...), and I'm so disappointed by the lack of interest the developers have about their own work. The 6 month schedule doesn't help them in that aspect ... But even with that. What a lack of perfectionism. Sometime you have to sit back and fix the little details that makes the difference between something good and something you really want to use ! And I hope 14.04 will be the end of this nightmare ! PS: I'm sorry for the anger level of my post, but I wasted so much time this night trying

[Bug 996535] Re: package zram-config 0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I know what this bug is about (I think) ! This package use a set of scripts to check how much CPU cores you have to set the number of virtual swaps accordingly. The problem is, the scripts are checking for a text string ("Processor") and this string is usually here one time only. But if you are using a Pentium M CPU like me, this string is here twice and this confuses the scripts at upstart is trying to init zram.
