Same problem here with nforce based motherboard and intel Core2Duo,
putting hpet=disable in kernel boot parameters workarounded the issue.

[Bug 310854] Re: Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid

2009-01-25 Thread Federico Belvisi
I myself tried printing after the latest Ubuntu upgrades. I tried A4, A5 and
4x6. Canon driver prints well and pages were printed correctly with Acrobat
Reader (pdf printing). The only problem I found is in F-Spot: selecting
borderless in page setup will overwrite page size setting (it reverts back
to A4 whatever size was previously set). Re-setting 4x6 in page size property
was needed to have a correct print. I have still an issue printing 4x6
borderless, whatever setup i choose in F-Spot i have prints with a little white
border.
Calbocano or someone other, have you succeded in printing borderless 4x6 images?

[Bug 310854] Re: Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid

2009-01-06 Thread Federico Belvisi
When I print A4 (text or photos through f-spot) I have no problems at
all. AFAIK my printer cannot print this size borderless (altough I
didn't had time for extensive testing, like 13x18cm or other paper
formats). On A4, I have a little 3 or 4 mm border on every edge, image
is well centered. That test was made with Canon proprietary driver.

I also backported cups (1.3.9-11) and ghostscript
(8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu13) from jaunty to intrepid. Gutenprint driver tells
me some problems but canon one doesn't. I tested this one and prints the
same as Intrepid standard cups/ghostscript.

I never retried printing 4x6 photo on 4x6 paper since i don't love
printing without paper, maybe the printing head could suffer damage...
but, for testing purposes, I can retry.

[Bug 310854] Re: Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid

2009-01-06 Thread Federico Belvisi
I already did what you said here above in every of my tests with F-Spot: I
selected the right paper size in the current printer model (not any printer,
in my case i selected my Canon printer). Indeed, the available paper sizes were
less than in any printer option. I selected my 4x6 in it. This is done in
page setup and also in print-set page size and orientation.
No luck, printer prints 4x6 in the middle of A4.

Maybe some setting goes lost somewhere in between the printing process,
my 2 cents.

[Bug 310854] Re: Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid

2009-01-06 Thread Federico Belvisi
Just tried to print in GIMP via Print with Gutenprint, selected Adobe
Postscript Level 2 and provided the Canon's ppd file, selected 4x6
paper size and put an A4 paper. The printer printed the upper left
quarter of the picture at middle height, left aligned on the paper. At
least it printed on a side and not in center of paper, but only a
quarter of the picture. The rest of the page was blank.

[Bug 310854] Re: Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid

2009-01-05 Thread Federico Belvisi
I have had the same issue as the reporter of the bug. I have a Canon
Pixma ip4500 and Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10. I had a week ago (26th december)
the same error 32 as the original bug's submitter. So, I found out
that printing from F-Spot with Gutenprint driver instead of Canon's one
printed only in a quarter of 4x6 paper. Printer head printed a little of
the image on the paper, the rest gone lost and was printed without a
paper under it. I then tried to print in 4x6 format (on F-Spot), but on
A4 paper size (real). The picture was printed 4x6, on the center of A4
paper. Today, with proprietary Canon driver, and same setup (4x6 in
F-Spot, A4 real paper) the error 32 disappeared, but prints always are
centered on A4 paper.

Hope this could help someone debugging the problem.

[Bug 186713] Re: [hardy] keytouch blocks logout

2008-05-01 Thread Federico Belvisi
Bregol I think you found the real problem, or at least a good point.
Thank you for pointing out these duplicate files. After I read your
comment, I gone reading the keytouch changelog. Reading from bottom to
top, i found some interesting lines:

   - keytouch-acpid no longer needs to be started in the X session, thus
the Xsession.d scripts are removed. ACPID keys are now handled by a
daemon started from the init.d script (Closes: #400698).

  * Do not ship upstream's Xsession.d scripts at all. Use the new
keytouchd-launch to get keytouch started after dbus, allowing us to
pick up the env vars.

Another line, though I did not understand what is the bug linked here,
surely not on LP, maybe on official project website:

* Fix reverted logic in Xsession.d/55keytouchd_launch (Closes: #433589).

And:

 * Fix syntax errors in Xsession.d script (Closes: #435692).

So, why are these Xsessions files still here? I deleted the highest
xsession keytouch file, installed keytouch, and I still had logout
hangs. I then got rid of every xsession keytouch file (deleted also the
55th xsession keytouch), and gnome logs out correctly. Keytouch seems
working as intended at least on my Cherry Expert keyboard. Some of you
has tried the same thing?

[Bug 156542] Re: Fullscreen wine applications disapear from window list on workspace switch

2008-03-05 Thread Federico Belvisi
Ok, I made another test: the problem i was referring to in my latest
comment is bug #102807 (wine app behind panels). It has no solution, so
i simply put allow the window manager to control the windows checked
on winecfg just to have an equal setup as in gutsy and proceeded.

The bug (this bug, #156542) is still here in hardy: i changed a couple
of times workspace with hotkeys (ctrl+f1..4) and wine app desappeared
from window list. I had to kill -9 to stop the game.

I'm using hardy up-to-date with wine 0.9.56 from winehq.

Yes, using Gutsy I still have this behaviour. I'm running World Of

listen the sounds but i'm unable to return in the application, because
it is missing from any window list.

I haven't tried in Hardy, I'll hope to test it maybe in the next week.

[Bug 48773] Re: Mouse doesn't get turned off on system shutdown

2007-12-22 Thread Federico Belvisi
I finally managed to compile and upload to my ppa a kernel with the
patch submitted by Sebastian, you can find it here:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/armalite/ubuntu gutsy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/armalite/ubuntu gutsy main

I have a little problem in versioning since synaptic shows me after upgrade
that the kernel is still upgradeable with the same version. This should not
happen if you download and install manually the .deb, or if you compile from
sources.
I'll try my best to keep my ppa in sync with the standard kernel for future
versions.
Works out of the box for me with the linux-restricted provided by ubuntu so i
didn't have to tweak with nvidia closed drivers. You will/can find other
packages apart from kernel on this repository, so pay attention if you want to
upgrade only the kernel.
No warranty whatsoever :)
