is missing:

I updated the test package to depend on python3 instead of python since
the latter is not present on my test platform (Ubuntu 20.10) anymore.
And all the issues I reported are still present:
* qapt-deb-installer still wants to install many packages despite python3:amd64
already being installed.
This appears to be fixed in the current incarnation of "Ubuntu Software"
(snap-store 3.36.0-82-g80486d0 in Ubuntu 20.10): the two sudo lines show
as expected.
However it does not 'hide' the dot between the first and second
paragraphs. That's a relatively minor presentation bug however.

As far as I can tell software-center has been deprecated and removed from
Ubuntu long ago (it got replaced by ubuntu-software then ubuntu-software and
now snap-store).
So I think this can be closed.

I retested this with "Ubuntu Software" (/snap/bin/snap-store) which
seems be the replacement for the software-center and it installed the
test package without trouble.
So if the software-center is indeed deprecated and not in use anymore

Here is an updated foo-packages.tar.gz file to reproduce this issue.
The updates mostly deal with changes in Debian policy such as adding
debian/compat and updating DH_COMPAT. The new foo-packages.tar.gz also contains
pre-built packages which you are free to use or delete and rebuild.

Ubuntu 16.10 to the current 20.04 and Debian 10 for instance).
Given that gdebi 0.9.5.7 was released in 2015 I have to ask the question:

I have run into this issue too. In case it helps anyone else, the workaround I
came up with is to:
* Use the NFS server's IP address in /etc/fstab.
* Add 'mount -a' in the first non-comment line of /etc/init.d/mountnfs.sh.
Note that it is important to call 'mount -a' before the '.
Note that this also impacts other packages using OpenGL (for instance
the crossover third-party package).

I think this is not a duplicate of bug 53845.
A regular KDE application needs to set up a complex runtime environment.
For instance in bug 53845 we see that a simple text editor needs to
start kdeinit, kded,
I've just tested it in Ubuntu 8.04 and it works.

I have encountered this problem with the CrossOver Office
(http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxoffice/) packages. They come in
multiple flavors, but only one can be installed at a given time. The
more capable flavors use the 'Replaces' directive
I have tested this with gdebi 0.3.1ubuntu1 (as present in Gutsy as of
2007/09/27) and I can confirm that this is fixed.
The packages I submitted for bug #146398 can also be used to test for this.
