If you don't see specific messages like: HcDoneHead not written back; disabled HC died; cleaning up Then it's unlikely to be the same bug. This one has been fixed anyway. [Bug 1689653] Re: Firefox Menu Bar missing when starting up at fvwm login
I tried starting it as firefox --safe-mode mode instead. The problem still exists, although it looks a little different, presumably because the Menu Bar isn't enabled. It starts up without any space between the title bar and the tabs. Right clicking above the tab gives the pop-up menu but with Menu Bar, Bookmarks Toolbar and Customize greyed out. Selecting Menu Bar produces some space where the Menu Bar would go, but no menu bar. [Bug 1689653] [NEW] Firefox Menu Bar missing when starting up at fvwm login
Public bug reported: I'm using the Fvwm window manager. In the "Session and Startup" dialog, I've added Firefox as an "Application Autostart", using the simple command "firefox". [Bug 1602904] [NEW] Application menus go off screen the first time they are displayed
Public bug reported: Using the bookmarks menu in Firefox, when going to a nested bookmark (3 deep) the menu always opens partly off the right edge of my screen, but only on the first time the menu is displayed. [Bug 1255165] Re: make it clearer that crash files may contain private data and make it easier to opt out
Interesting quote from http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/technology /report-nsa-intercepts-computer-deliveries/2013/12/29/dc14c3da-70a2-11e3 -bc6b-712d770c3715_story.html?clsrd One of the most striking reported revelations concerned the NSA’s alleged ability to spy on Microsoft Corp.’s crash reports, familiar to many users of the Windows operating system as the dialogue box which pops up when a game freezes or a Word document dies. The reporting system is intended to help Microsoft engineers improve their products and fix bugs, but Der Spiegel said the NSA was also sifting through the reports to help spies break into machines running Windows. [Bug 1255165] Re: make it clearer that crash files may contain private data and make it easier to opt out
I think this is really a request for apport, which shows the error dialog, instead of Whoopsie, which if I understand it correctly just uploads anything dumped in /var/crash to daisy.ubuntu.com. It's quite a neat system, and I may find these crash reports in /var/crash useful now that I know how to unpack them. I have some other suggestions (I'm assuming that the crash reports are still useful without the core dump included): * Add a second checkbox in the crash dialog for "include core dump". * Add a warning beside this checkbox like "The core dump contains the program and the data it was working with. It's size is 4032MB which may take some time to upload." * If the core dump is larger than a given size (configurable somewhere, maybe a couple of MB by default) then untick the option in the dialog so that it's not included by default. Or maybe untick the box by default in every case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1255165 Title: make it clearer that crash files may contain private data and make it easier to opt out To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/whoopsie/+bug/1255165/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1255165] Re: CoreDump should never be sent
This is a good reason to make sending corefiles a non-default feature. Is it even possible to send a crash report without an attached core dump? I only noticed the feature to disable crash reporting entirely. Another problem is that core dump files can be enormous, and perhaps a computer with a slow network connection may not be switched on long enough to allow the upload to ever complete. I've noticed that the same thing happens when using Xubuntu (XFCE), which suggests that it's nothing to do with Unity but has something to do with the underlying layers in the window system. Since X is a networked window system, you may expect something like this to happen, but I don't remember seeing it until the last couple of years. [Bug 964775] Re: Boot is delayed due to missing static network interface
I think the default behaviour should be that network problems shouldn't block login. The exception may be a dedicated workstation with remotely mounted home directories, where you may want it to block forever. The current compromise of waiting 120s isn't correct for either situation. There's also the issue of server processes which shouldn't be started until the network is up, and this seems to be one of the motivations for the change to a 120s timeout. Is it a matter of chaining the upstart dependencies differently? Networking problems may need to block certain server processes but not block logging in. It should be easy to alternatively configure the system (presumably by changing one of the upstart files) so that network problems do block login. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/964775 Title: Boot is delayed due to missing static network interface To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/964775/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: The source code of this package has been written as a single large NoWeb file. The Makefile automatically converts it into C and documentation. However, I found this initially mystifying, as I suspect it would also be to other casual readers who would like to know better how the software works. I imagine it also makes it difficult to maintain. It would be easy enough to convert it to a conventional C project: Run the makefile to generate the C files. Generate again a few C files that get deleted, for some reason. Clean up the C files by removing #line indicators and reindenting. Copy any useful documentation from the noweb file into new C comments. Rework the makefile to build from C, removing references to noweb. I agree, as I wrote on this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/995407. This bug report seems more relevant however. In my case, it's not even my primary internet connection that hangs, but a connection to another computer that doesn't need to be switched on. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1094593 Title: Boot is delayed up to 120 seconds on static network configuration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/1094593/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 995407] Re: Even if network is fully configured upstart waits for network configuration up to three minutes
I just had to edit /etc/init/failsafe.conf to remove all the sleeps. Otherwise, my system will sometimes take an extra few minutes to boot, for no good reason. My setup is a bit unusual, but not too bizarre. I have a router with a single ethernet connection which is connected to my main computer. I have a second network card which connects it to a second computer (used by my partner). I have a script that enables NAT forwarding to the 2nd computer (which itself isn't very user-friendly to configure, but that's a different story) but it doesn't play well with network-manager so I've uninstalled that latter and configured the network manually in /etc/network/interfaces. Now I find that everthing works fine if I switch on both computers together, which is the usual case. However if I switch on mine only, it hangs in failsafe.conf. Editing failsafe.conf seemed like the best solution, but it's not very elegant. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995407 Title: Even if network is fully configured upstart waits for network configuration up to three minutes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/995407/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 654323] Re: [VIA VT1708S] ALSA test tone not correctly played back. Cannot unmute. Get brief burst of sound then it remutes without my taking any action
I also have this problem at the moment. The sound has worked fine in the past, including after I installed 10.10. But about a week ago I had this problem. I didn't investigate it and it was gone the next day. Yesterday I had it again, and it's still present today, after shutting down the computer overnight. The sound can be unmuted as long as no application is playing sound. But as soon as something produces sound, it mutes again immediately. Attempting to unmute while sound is playing just produces sound for a fraction of a second and then it automatically remutes. -- [VIA VT1708S] ALSA test tone not correctly played back. Cannot unmute. [Bug 118191] 7.04 live CD errors on IBM Thinkpad T40
Public bug reported: I'm trying to install 7.04 on a laptop that's currently running a previous version of Ubuntu. However the installer has been crashing at different places, locking up the machine so that I can't examine the log files. During this boot from the live CD I have already had some problems, before running the installer. A warning dialogue said that the Gnome configuration daemon failed to start up, and likewise for a clock applet. The syslog seems to show errors reading from the CD. The CD self-test, run on this machine, didn't find any problems. This is the second CD I've tried. I'll see if I can find a way to attach the complete log file, then I'll try reinstalling the previous Ubuntu. syslog fragment: Jun 1 15:53:59 ubuntu kernel: [6.216000] squashfs: version 3.2-r2 (2007/01/ 15) Phillip Lougher Jun 1 15:53:59 ubuntu kernel: [ 111.00] sr 1:0:0:0: SCSI error: return cod e = 0x0802 Jun 1 15:53:59 ubuntu kernel: [ 111.00] sr0: Current: sense key: Medium Er ror Jun 1 15:53:59 ubuntu kernel: [ 111.00] Additional sense: Unrecovered read error Jun 1 15:53:59 ubuntu kernel: [ 111.00] Info fld=0x4eee0 Jun 1 15:53:59 ubuntu kernel: [ 111.00] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, s ector 1293184 Jun 1 15:53:59 ubuntu kernel: [ 111.00] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, lo gical block 323296 ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- 7.04 live CD errors on IBM Thinkpad T40 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
