There is an alternative that kdm may be at fault. I don't know which project,

I guessed kubuntu-packaging is where inter-package testing should occur.

Further investigation,
1st I removed the second (older) Nvidia card on the grounds to
eliminate that as a possible issue--but this did not directly solve
the problem.
I then upgraded the BIOS on my P6TD MB from what came w/
the MB to the most recent one from ASUS (501) and that has
