[Bug 2077969] Re: my ubuntu taskbar disappeared and when I go to settings>ubuntu desktop this messages appears "no ubuntu settings found" and "oops, something has gone wrong. Please report a bug in La
Hi, I just upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04.1 from Ubuntu 22.04, and I have the same issue. If I start gnome-control-center on the terminal, I get: $ LC_ALL=C gnome-control-center 14:35:12.8558 cc-ubuntu-panel[95265]: WARNING: No Ding is installed here. Please fix your installation. 14:35:12.8559 cc-ubuntu-panel[95265]: WARNING: No Ubuntu Dock is installed here. Panel disabled. Please fix your installation. So I guess something must have been wrong. So I installed ubuntu-desktop to see if I removed anything important. Didn't fix it. Turns out… I missed gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock and gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock Once installed, I get the dock back, and the desktop settings work again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2077969 Title: my ubuntu taskbar disappeared and when I go to settings>ubuntu desktop this messages appears "no ubuntu settings found" and "oops, something has gone wrong. [Bug 1554652] Re: nautilus-share broken with libpam-smbpass removed
Wow, this is a frustating issue! It took me hours to figure out, simply because I couldn't believe what most solutions for older Ubuntu releases told me: it's broken out of the box and I need to fiddle with samba internals. Yes a simple "sudo smbpasswd -a myusername" is sufficient to make it work (with authenticated shares). But there is no indication whatsoever in the GUI for this! It even proposes to install samba in the first place! It unequivocally passes the message "This is a nice GUI and it takes care of this. No need to worry." But the exact opposite is the case. IMHO this is worse than having no GUI. Without a GUI I know that I just have to do a quick google search and follow some instructions (set up samba...) and all is well in a few minutes or half an hour. At least it's straightforward. I'm a seasoned Linux user, but the current GUI sent me in all the wrong directions. It actively suggests that it takes care of everything, so I thought it'd be highly counterproductive to get in its way and edit samba's configuration myself. (Too many cooks...) I see that there are longstanding technical issues with the connection to PAM and those may be hard to fix. I totally accept that! But please, please, at the very least add some tooltip or popup dialog or text label (or modify an existing one) that informs the user that he is expected to manually add a samba user&password! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1554652 Title: nautilus-share broken with libpam-smbpass removed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-share/+bug/1554652/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1727183] [NEW] Executing commands through sudo or equivalent doesn't work
Public bug reported: Any application that needs to run with elevated privileges fails to launch on artful (17.10) desktop. Whether it's run from a terminal with sudo (e.g. "sudo gnome-terminal") or directly from the GUI icon by clicking on the application itself (e.g. launch "Synaptic Package Manager" from the application list and then enter your password) the same behavior happens: Application does not run. If doing this from a terminal, the resulting error message is: Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused Failed to parse arguments: Cannot open display: As a workaround, running "xhost +" from a terminal before allows all elevated privileges apps to now run. But this isn't helping apps that need to run at start of graphical environment and for which opening a terminal manually before to type "xhost +" isn't feasible. [Bug 1635577] Re: memory leak in unity-panel-service
I think I've got a working workaround : - apt install appmenu-qt5 - in your ~/.profile, add 'export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=appmenu-qt5' - reload your session No more memory leak for me, but I've only applied that a couple of hours ago, so I'm not 100% sure yet. If this is confirmed, it means the culprit is the new native Qt5 dbus appmenu/indicator support in yakkety, while in xenial and before an external plugin called 'appmenu-qt5' was used for the integration of Qt5 menus in Unity. More information about this change here : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtbase-opensource-src/+bug/1612767 Unfortunately it seems this old plugin is going the way of the dodo in zesty : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appmenu- qt5/+bug/1634941 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1635577 Title: memory leak in unity-panel-service To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1635577/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1569724] Re: noatime option
I've stumbled upon the same issue. Here's what I found: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt-btrfs- snapshot/+question/263994 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt-btrfs-snapshot/+bug/833980 In my opinion "older than" should NOT imply "last accessed/used". Such a feature should be taken care of separately / optionally. I'd guess that most users use apt-btrfs-snapshot exclusively in order to revert their system in case of an update gone wrong. In this use case, atime is of no practical use whatsoever. (Of course some users will use apt-btrfs- snapshot to switch between different versions of their OS and this should be supported, but preferably not at the expense of the "main" feature.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1569724 Title: noatime option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt-btrfs-snapshot/+bug/1569724/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1572659] Re: bcmwl driver does not work with kernel 4.4.0-21
Pedro, thank you for the hint, I'll try if that works as a workaround for me :-). I though the module build would disable secure boot since a dialog for a password for disabling pops up. But it remains the question to me what changed from kernel-4.4.0-18 to 4.4.0-21 that somehow broke the wl module loading process.
