[Bug 1842320] Re: Out of Memory on boot with 5.2.0 kernel
Just had the problem again after upgrading 20.10 to 21.04. Kernel 5.8.0-55 boots OK. Kernel 5.11.0-18 fails with the memory error. I'm just about to re-add the GFXMODE line to grub, which I hope will (again) work around the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1842320 Title: Out of Memory on boot with 5.2.0 kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1842320/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1842320] Re: Out of Memory on boot with 5.2.0 kernel
Issue appears to be related to display resolution. Grub was booting into 3840x2160 mode, with the resulting tiny, near-unreadable font. So I set GFXMODE=800x600 and now - unexpectedly - kernel 5.2.0 is able to boot without the memory errors. Not sure why the high resolution causes an out-of-memory error; a 3840x2160x32 framebuffer should only require ~32MB of RAM.

A workaround, provided you don't require the source MAC address to be correct for the executing machine: nmap -sU -p 67 --script=dhcp-discover --script-args=randomize_mac=true Depending on your use case, an alternative could be to use the broadcast DHCP script: nmap --script=broadcast-dhcp-discover -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1470343 Title: nmap dhcp-discover script broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nmap/+bug/1470343/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 971864] Re: ValueError: could not convert string to float: k_latency=0.850
This issue seems to be due to a problem with the file /var/lib/apt- xapian-index/cataloged_times.p -- perhaps it's an invalid value or some file corruption that is resulting in the cPickle.load command failing to deserialise the file. In my case I simply renamed this file, re-ran the index process (sudo /usr/sbin/update-xapian-index -u -f) and the issue appears to be resolved. I'll need to leave it a few days to let this run through cron in order to be completely sure. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/971864 Title: ValueError: could not convert string to float: k_latency=0.850 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/971864/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I had done this originally, but didn't do the bluetooth restart (in this case it was working the next time I booted the machine). -- kbluetooth4 fails to add mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268383 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 19982] Re: Low performance on usb-media and DVD-RAM in sync mode
I tested again using Kubuntu Hardy updated to the 2.6.27-rc3 kernel mentioned above. A 300GB Caviar SE PATA drive attached using a USB-IDE bridge cable gave the following transfer speeds when copying files using Dolphin: Async: 20MB/s Sync: 2.4MB/s There was a lot more head activity in sync mode (understandably, I think). I can't directly compare this result to my last test back in June 2007 since I'm using a different drive, however there's still a massive performance between sync and async. -- Low performance on usb-media and DVD-RAM in sync mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/19982 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 192353] Re: 100% CPU usage during disk I/O with SATA/PATA
Well, no, in my case it wasn't a bug; it was a quirk of the way CPU usage is reported. I would suggest you have a different issue, since DMA was working fine for me as you can see from my hdparm output above. -- 100% CPU usage during disk I/O with SATA/PATA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192353 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 209483] Re: 2.6.24 reports invalid storage size in /sys [Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F doesn't mount in Hardy]
Have just installed the generic 2.6.27 kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/pub/next/2.6.27-rc3/hardy/ and a quick test suggests that things have improved. The difference seems to be that the Walkman is treated as an single unpartitioned block now rather than as a device with a partition on it. I now can see size information in /sys/block/sdc/size where before it was in /sys/block/sdc/sdc1/size, and the size appears to be correct. Running fdisk -l still shows an apparent /dev/sdc1, and this has the invalid size information as before. My assumption, therefore, is that the kernel is now ignoring what I guess isn't a real partition. -- 2.6.24 reports invalid storage size in /sys [Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F doesn't mount in Hardy] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209483 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ah OK, I was confused because you referred to the "sed -i '255s/strtoll/strtoul/'" in my post (which as you say is not really necessary) when I think you were talking about the "sed -i '201s/strtoll/strtoul/'" which modified the 32-bit version of the call. [Bug 209483] Re: 2.6.24 reports invalid storage size in /sys [Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F doesn't mount in Hardy]
Martin, I'm interested to know more about your thoughts on the change from strtoul from strtoll. The function name indicates that it sets a uint64, but would strtoll not set a signed 64-bit int? That was the logic behind changing it to use strtoul, so I'm keen to know if I've completely misunderstood something! -- 2.6.24 reports invalid storage size in /sys [Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F doesn't mount in Hardy] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209483 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare

[Bug 75483] Re: tools can't connect to hpiod
I have finally figured out what was causing the problem. I had used KMyFirewall to set up iptables, and it seems that either the default behaviour is to apply rules to loopback in addition to the physical network interfaces, or I screwed up the configuration when I first installed it :). I flushed the iptables rules and set the default policy to 'ACCEPT' on loopback, and a few quick tests show that it's working as it should be. [Bug 19982] Re: Low performance on usb-media and DVD-RAM in sync mode
This is still a problem under Kubuntu Feisty. An external USB 2.0 hard disk formatted with Ext3 writes at about 600KB/s with the sync option enabled.
