[Bug 1872051] Re: Krunner does not launch with shortcut after update from 19.10 to 20.04
The same happened for me, with the same addition to .config/kglobalshortcutsrc. I ran Global Shortcuts in System Settings and saw there were no settings for KRunner. I attempted to set the default global shortcut (which remained as Alt+Space) and got the popup message: "The shortcut 'Alt+Space' conflicts with the following key combination: Shortcut 'Alt+Space' in Application Run Command for action Run Command" and similarly for the default global alternate shortcut. I chose to override the warnings and set the global and global alternate shortcuts back to their defaults. Krunner now launches from the keyboard as before the upgrade. [Bug 883459]
I haven't seen the problem for a while, maybe two years. I use POP3 only, not IMAP. I run Kubuntu; currently I'm on 19.04. Sometimes kmail crashes, and I wonder if the way I clean up is related to my not seeing duplicate filtered messages. When kmail crashes, I stop akonadi ("akonadictl stop") and look in the maildir structure like this: cd .local/share/.local-mail.directory ls */new/*S The S indicates messages which have been Seen, and according to the Maildir specification the files should not be in a"new" subdirectory; they should have been moved to a "cur" subdirectory. I therefore move them while akonadi is stopped. E.g., mv -i wastebin/new/*S wastebin/cur I then run "akonadictl fsck" and restart akonadi ("akonadictl start"). As I say, it's pure speculation that this is why I don't see duplicate messages now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883459 Title: KMail duplicates emails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdepim/+bug/883459/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Why is it the case that "installing third-party drivers requires turning off Secure Boot"? [Bug 704763] Re: boot loader not installed to target disk
Problem is still there in 16.04 LTS (pre-release). In my case I have a laptop with one internal disk and I'm installing on an external USB-attached disk (/dev/sda and /dev/sdc respectively). The result makes no sense to me. If I boot the laptop without the external disk, I end up at a Grub command prompt. I can't boot from the external disk because there's no boot loader on it. Surely I should be able to boot a system from one or the other disk alone. The internal disk is mounted as /boot/efi, and has EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg with the content: search.fs_uuid root hd2,gpt2 set prefix=($root)'/boot/grub' configfile $prefix/grub.cfg where is the UUID of the root partition on the external disk. So it's quite deliberately requiring both disks to be present. Let's at least have a warning message that the internal disk will be modified. There is no mention of /dev/sda in the installation, only a warning that /dev/sdc will be changed (see screenshots). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/704763 Title: boot loader not installed to target disk To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/704763/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 199094] Re: hdparm.conf settings (other than apm) are lost on suspend/resume?
I've given up on hdparm.conf now. As noted in #27, it seems that systemd and udev/udisks2 is the way to go, but it's not clear how exactly. Here's what I've done. This bug report isn't the ideal place to document it, but I can't find a better place for now. Maybe it'll help someone who finds it through a search engine. The Ubuntu Disks utility (not in the Launcher by default) allows configuration of the spindown/standby time and other settings. (See below for Kubuntu.) Click on the disk in the left-hand pane, then click the "hamburger" icon at the top right and select Drive Settings. Great! Except... what it says in the title of this bug. Also: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1511703 I fixed this by coding a sleep script as shown in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Power_management#Hooks_in_.2Fusr.2Flib.2Fsystemd.2Fsystem-sleep Note the directory in Ubuntu is /lib/systemd/system-sleep/, which is different from Arch Linux. In the "post/*" case I simply coded the required hdparm command directly, e.g. hdparm -B 254 -S 120 /dev/sdb I'd earlier tried to make hdparm.conf work by emulating the pmutils scripts by coding, e.g., DEVNAME=/dev/sdb /lib/udev/hdparm but that didn't work for some reason. I don't think I worked out why. Kubuntu users (like me) and others who don't have the Ubuntu Disks utility available need to write a config file (which, of course, is what hdparm.conf is) to set the post-boot spindown time, etc. See udisks(8) for the format of the file /etc/udisks2/IDENTIFIER.conf, the file which the Disks utility writes. For instance: [ATA] APMLevel=254 StandbyTimeout=120 What is IDENTIFIER? Run "udisksctl dump" (the output is piped to less) and look for an object path starting "/org/freedesktop/UDisks2/drives/" with your drive model and serial number. Within the org.freedesktop.UDisks2.Drive interface underneath that, the Id property is the required IDENTIFIER part of the filename. See http://udisks.freedesktop.org/docs/latest/gdbus-org.freedesktop.UDisks2.Drive.html#gdbus-property-org-freedesktop-UDisks2-Drive.Id So it seems that in 2015, it's a bit more complicated than writing /etc/hdparm.conf. It seems (unless there's currently a better way) it's necessary to specify the hdparm settings for the post-boot and post- resume conditions in two different ways. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199094 Title: hdparm.conf settings (other than apm) are lost on suspend/resume? [Bug 1271433] [NEW] M4A88TD-M EVO suspend/resume failure
Public bug reported: Yesterday I did a cold boot of the system and later suspended it. On waking it this morning I could enter a few characters of my login password, and then the system froze. Yesterday I was running a test for bug 1201180, Pressing power button turns off the PC ignoring the presence of another session manager, but I see no evidence that this was related to the suspend/resume failure. Pressing the power button caused an orderly shutdown and then power off. Since upgrading to Kubuntu 13.10 from 13.04 I have had several suspend/resume failures, though there seem to be fewer after I upgraded the BIOS (bug 1251333). It seems these failures happen after doing a routine upgrade of the kernel and then a warm boot. However, as I say, this failure was after a cold boot. I removed my nVidia card and the driver, and Akonadi starts OK now. I didn't experience the problems in the other reports in comment 52 of ^C not working in xterm (or Konsole, either). I have a suspicion that I was mistaken in comment 32 when I said that Akonadi only started 4 out of 5 times after renaming /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.Akonadi.Control.service. [Bug 994921] Re: 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/app.crash' (and even more so, 'apport-cli -c /var/crash/app.crash') should still allow manual bug filing in stable releases
I've wasted several hours today trying to report a kernel oops. At the very least, as mentioned previously in https://bugs.launchpad.net/apport/+bug/997283/comments/8, apport-cli(1) and the messages from the command should explain clearly what will, or won't, or has, or hasn't happened. The wiki has a note, but if you go to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs, then from Contents to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#System_crash, the note is just above there, and you'll only see it if you scroll up, and why would you scroll up? The note says apport will appear to upload a crash report, but only actually does so if whoopsie is installed. Whoopsie is installed by default for users of ubuntu-desktop, but for users of alternative desktops, or for server users, whoopsie has to be installed manually with apt-get install whoopsie. See bug #1001630 for details. [Bug 1254527] [NEW] System bell randomly doesn't work after login
Public bug reported: In KDE System Settings / Accessibility I have Use system bell ticked. I have commented out the entry for pcspkr in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. I can get a beep from the PC speaker using xterm and entering, for instance, ^G, or backspace, or echo -e '\a'. (Konsole, of course, usually doesn't use the system bell.) However, quite often after logging in to a KDE session, whether or not that's immediately after booting, the beep doesn't work, and the only way to restore it is to go to Accessibility settings, untick Use system bell, click Apply, re-tick Use system bell and click Apply again. The problem doesn't seem to be just some corrupted KDE setting, because it can happen if I use a test account and before logging in to KDE, use a TTY session to delete .kde/ or even everything in the home directory (using cd; find . -delete). If I do this, sometimes the speaker works (which it should, since this is the default setting), and sometimes it doesn't. I can't find a pattern. Once the speaker is working in a session, though, it continues to work. The problem only happens around login. This happens with Kubuntu 13.10 and 12.04.3 LTS. The problem is confined to Kubuntu – it doesn't occur in other distributions I've tried: Debian Testing with kernel 3.11.2 and KDE 4.11.3 OpenSUSE 13.1 (KDE 4.11.2) PC-BSD 9.2 (KDE 4.10.5) I tried using KDM instead of LightDM for 13.10, though 12.04 uses KDM anyway. No difference. Always, even when the bell isn't working, xset q shows: bell percent: 50bell pitch: 400bell duration: 100 I haven't seen any relevant messages in .xsession-errors. I can't see anything related to system bell or PC speaker in KDebugDialog. ** Affects: kde-runtime (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254527 Title: System bell randomly doesn't work after login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-runtime/+bug/1254527/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1251333] [NEW] System freezes after suspend to RAM
Public bug reported: After upgrading to Kubuntu Saucy with kernel 3.11.0-12 the system was OK, but after upgrading to kernel 3.11.0-13 I started experiencing the problem. After sleeping the system overnight, it would partially wake up but then be unresponsive. The previous time I had the problem I could enter a few letters of my password into LightDM, but then the system became unresponsive to the keyboard and mouse, and didn't respond to pings. Today (with some other Kubuntu upgrades installed in the meantime) there was just a black screen apart from the mouse cursor, and the system was unresponsive to the keyboard and mouse straight away after waking the system with the keyboard. It responded to pings, and I could open a TCP session to it on port 22, but sshd was unresponsive. If I sleep the system for only a short time, it wakes OK. I see messages in syslog about the TSC, so maybe that's the reason for the problem. Possibly related to bug 1241582. [Bug 1204182] [NEW] Locale wrongly defaults to en_US.UTF8
Public bug reported: Country/Region Language setting is very keen to write ~/.kde/env/setlocale.sh with the contents: export LANG=en_US.UTF-8 export LANGUAGE=en_US:en even when the Country is not United States of America. To reproduce: 1. In Country/Region Language setting, Country is United Kingdom (in my case). Also note that ~/.kde/env/setlocale.sh doesn't exist. 2. Make some change (I changed Short date format from DD/MM/YY to - MM-DD) and click Apply. 3. Note that setlocale.sh has been written as above, with en_US values. This means that when KDE is restarted, all LC_* variables are en_US.UTF-8 instead of the previous values of en_GB.UTF-8. One workaround is to delete ~/.kde/env/setlocale.sh after making the required changes in System Settings. Another workaround is to set the Preferred Language as well as making the other required change (Preferred Languages was previously empty on my system). Setting this to British English causes ~/.kde/env/setlocale.sh to be written with the contents: export LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 export LANGUAGE=en_GB:en Now there's an extreme demonstration of the problem. With Country set to United Kingdom, clicking Defaults subtly changes the Country to System Country (United Kingdom). Clicking Apply then changes the contents of setlocale.sh from the en_GB values to en_US values, even though other settings (Money, etc.) are appropriate for the UK. Expected behaviour: ~/.kde/env/setlocale.sh should not be written if it doesn't exist and it's not necessary to write it (LC_* variables are set elsewhere). Originally reported to KDE at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322688. KDE developer says file isn't written by KDE, so must be due to distribution-specific patch. [Bug 1174418] Re: Privacy Extensions are set by default on Ubuntu 13.04, but no temporary address will be generate
I confirm this. IPv6 privacy extensions were enabled by default in 12.04 (actually, I don't see this in the release notes, or in any other official documentation, but Internet search engines show everyone says so), and they were working in 12.10. Testing with a fresh install of Kubuntu 13.04, my eth0 interface doesn't have a randomised address, only a link-local address, a global MAC-based address and a DHCP-allocated IPv4 address. /etc/sysctl.conf and /etc/sysctl.d/10-ipv6-privacy.conf in 13.04 have been unchanged since 12.04. Putting net.ipv6.conf.eth0.use_tempaddr = 2 into 60-ipv6-privacy.conf or directly into /etc/sysctl.conf makes no difference, and even after a reboot /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/eth0/use_tempaddr is 0. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1174418 Title: Privacy Extensions are set by default on Ubuntu 13.04, but no temporary address will be generate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/procps/+bug/1174418/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1174418] Re: Privacy Extensions are set by default on Ubuntu 13.04, but no temporary address will be generate
On another box, not the one mentioned above with the fresh install, I'm not using Network Manager, but configuration under /etc/network. I didn't have an iface inet6 stanza in /etc/network/interfaces when running with Kubuntu 12.10, but global temporary addresses were created; after upgrading to 13.04 they were not. Now, after adding: iface eth0 inet6 auto privext 2 to the config file, again a randomised, temporary address is created (and I assume after 24 hours another will be created, as before).

[Bug 972279] Re: Konsole displays bold text with normal weight
The problem has moved to a different font. I'm testing with a clean install of Kubuntu 12.10 with current updates. As before, the problem occurs with the Black on White schema, and not the default Linux schema. In fact, it occurs with most schemas in /usr/share/kde4/apps/konsole, the only other exception being Solarized. The essential difference is that where the problem occurs, there is Bold=true in the [ForegroundIntense] section. All schemas now use .colorscheme configuration files; before, BlackOnWhite used a .schema configuration file, which has a different syntax. Now, out of the available fonts, only Monospace (the default) correctly displays bold characters, and it does so at any size. Ubuntu doesn't display bold characters correctly, not at 11pt or at any other size. Nor do any of the other available fonts display bold correctly. This might be related to bug 744812 FontConfig/Qt stack choke on Ubuntu Medium font meta-data (No medium in Inkscape and too bold in Qt apps). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/972279 Title: Konsole displays bold text with normal weight To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/konsole/+bug/972279/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
