Re: [Bug 736743] Re: environment block not implemented on btrfs
This has been the advice since day 1. It's obviously not what many want. I'd expect that someone at Canonical might have a better chance at spurring communication between GRUB and BTRFS than a mere end-user. [Bug 1635824] Re: r8168-dkms 8.041.00-1: r8168 kernel module failed to build [error: ‘NETIF_F_ALL_CSUM’ undeclared]
The patch enables the module to compile correctly and produce a functioning driver. I derived it by analogy with other fixes for the r8168/9. [Bug 1273806] [NEW] mouse dies intermittently until cold reboot
Public bug reported: While in use from minutes to hours, the cursor disappears and the buttons stop working. Attaching another mouse to a different USB ports restores functionality , but the original mouse stays dead. This behaviour has been discussed in Askubuntu #69594, but solutions there did not prevent hanging on this system. Been pecking away at this issue for a few years now. Still occurs annoyingly frequently on a HP DV7 AMD system running updated 12.04.3 upgraded to 3.11-0-15-generic kernel. This time when it happened, looked at the dmesg outputs. They all showed a very recent type=1400 audit(1390858876.548:75): apparmor=DENIED operation=capable parent=1 profile=/usr/sbin/cupsd pid=1249 comm=cupsd pid=1249 comm=cupsd capability=36 capname=block_suspend There was no printing occurring. No printer is connected to this system (it prints via another (XP) system via network), and there are no other USB devices attached except for a powered-down HDD.. Figured the next thing to try was disabling apparmor for cups. Since doing that, the mouse remains working. Wild guess here is that something in the cupsd profile is triggering for a dangerous behaviour of a USB printer which can be mistakenly triggered by a USB mouse. (Launchpad 1199933 discusses the issue around block_suspend and why I couldn't just shut down that single rule.) ** Affects: apparmor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: mouse usb -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273806 Title: mouse dies intermittently until cold reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1273806/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 132042] Re: wireless stops working until reboot
Unfortunately I can't follow up on your request. My base system is 64-bit Precise, and I only run Quantal in a VM for short periods frequently. This problem only shows up after several hours of email. torrent, and newsgroup downloads, and I've never run any VM long enough to show it there. As I reported previously, the host can be locked up but connectivity in a VM is unaffected. I hit the glitch yesterday, so if there's any value in my going through the apport collect process I'll be happy to do so the next time I hit it. The problem with replacing my 3.2.0-32-generic kernel with a 3.3.7 version, even temporarily, is that most likely my VirtualBox installation won't work, and I'll have to redo the DKMS rigmarole coming and going... I can't think of a good solution for this without adding another HD and cloning over my Precise partition. However, I don't have a spare even close to large enough. Linux is on a 1.10 TB partition of which about 300GB are in use (including the VDI files current size). So, if you have any alternative suggestions on how I can be of assistance, please let me know. [Bug 132042] Re: wireless stops working until reboot
I've been pecking away at this glitch for years now from one version to the next like everyone else in this thread. I was always suspicious of there being a low-level problem, even though it occurred with multiple machines and different ethernet/wireless chips. My latest system acquisiition is a machine capable of running VBox. My host session (64-bit 12.04.1 LTS) just went incommunicado on me, but I'm posting this using IE in an XP VM. Leads me to believe that problem is somewhere around OSI Level 4, since the bridged ethernet to the VMs work perfectly. [Bug 1047498] [NEW] QQ beta1 desktop ubi-partman exit 141 during install from CD

[Bug 1044475] [NEW] Unable to install encrypted w/o swap target from host w swap
Public bug reported: I maintain a system on an SDHC card for banking and other secure usage. The card gets 2 partitions, an unencrypted /boot and a LUKS- encypted root. There's no swap since the card size is 16GB, and I need as much storage as I can get. The card gets plugged into a 2GB netbook, and I'm not heavily multitasking, so I never need to swap. To install, I boot the alt-install CD on an existing Ubuntu desktop and go through manual partitioning of the card (no LVM of course). The installation doesn't complete because at the end, the installer complains that swap isn't encrypted. That's true, BUT the swap it's inspecting is on the host machine, and has no relevance to when I will be booting from the SD card. To get around this, I had to go to Windows-only machine to do the install. Because there was no swap partition on its HD, everything went fine. What I really need is a way to tell the installer to totally ignore the host's swap partition when setting up the SDHC card. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1044475 Title: Unable to install encrypted w/o swap target from host w swap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1044475/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 858536] Re: Unity desktop right-truncates with external monitor
Well, okay, if that's going to be Canonical's attitude. I thought Unity was targeted for netbooks. Re: [Bug 807194] Re: gksu nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_file_query_info()
Removing deja-dup prevented the crash Now I get a bunch of (nautilus:2457): Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to underallocate NautilusPathBar's child GtkButton 0x8388b78. Allocation is 24x39, but minimum required size is 27x27. type errors for a number of different buttons. Am using netbook with external monitor, so maybe screen characteristics are confusing.
