[Bug 2062554] Re: Enabling keyboard layout plugin crashes session

2024-04-19 Thread Harald Hannelius
Yes ibus is installed.

# dpkg --get-selections |grep ibus
gir1.2-ibus-1.0:amd64 install
ibusinstall
ibus-data install
ibus-gtk:amd64 install
ibus-gtk3:amd64 install
ibus-gtk4:amd64 install
libibus-1.0-5:amd64 install
libusb-1.0-0:amd64 install
libusbmuxd6:amd64 install
libusbredirhost1t64:amd64 install
libusbredirparser1t64:amd64 install
python3-ibus-1.0install

My keyboard layout is Finnish and Swedish is the second. They as far as
I know identical.

I will try with another user account later today and see if I can
reproduce this with a fresh user account.

edit: no crash with a freshly created user. I'll check later if I have
any logs.

[Bug 2060659] Re: X11 fractional scaling support is missing in 46.0

2024-04-18 Thread Harald Hannelius
I can report that the packages 46.0-1ubuntu8 works like a charm, many
thanks! Downloaded the from here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter

I did however had to use --force-overwrite on mutter-common since there
was a conflict with the file
./usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.mutter.gschema.xml that is also
provided by magpie-common. This could also have been a side effect from
my testing. What I can tell there's still that conflict.

I noticed this error on Ubuntu 20.10. Local OpenLDAP, nslcd and a LDAP-
user's cron-jobs aren't run because the log says orphaned.

[Bug 1913698] [NEW] Enabled LDAP, cannot login if user not in /etc/passwd

2021-01-29 Thread Harald Hannelius
Public bug reported:

I installed nslcd, libnss-ldapd, migration-tools, slapd, ldapscripts.
Using the migration-scripts I copied the users to LDAP. getent shadow
(as root) shows encrypted passwords and everything works as it should.
Lightdm however, doesn't. I'm unable to logon using Xephyr (XDMCP) or
locally.

As a workaround I can copy the line for the user back into /etc/passwd
and then login works. I don't need a line in /etc/shadow, this info
comes from LDAP.

Is lightdm using some funky stuff to deduce if a user is viable for
login that isn't transferred to LDAP?

I hade this same problem. Apparently an on apparmor profile left behind
of an old mysql install. This fixed it for me;

echo "/usr/sbin/mysqld { }" > /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld

systemctl restart mariadb

[Bug 1869363] Re: Marco dies now and then when closing a window.

2020-05-21 Thread Harald Hannelius
This is getting progressively worse. Every two close of a window crashes
the window-manager. So much so I had to create an icon for starting
marco, since it isn't re-starting itself anymore. And every time it
dies, all windows get shifted some tens of pixels downwards. It feels
like sweatpants fighting against gravity.

2017-04-23 Thread Harald Hannelius
I'm having the same error. I upgraded from 16.04 -> 16.10 -> 17.04 on
the same day and now my computer freezes during night. There's no reply
from the dhcpd running on the computer anymore, and the screen shows the
background but no login window appears. I can't ping the computer,
though AltSysRq s-u-b works.

This computer has been perfectly stable up to the upgrade day, running
months a a time without hickups.

[Bug 1492180] Re: iwconfig reports wrong bitrate (6 Mb/s)

2015-09-04 Thread Harald Hannelius
I installed backports-4.2 rc1 something. Now iwconfig reports 390 Mb/s
as Bit rate, regardless of what we're nominally handshaked on with the
AP. It looks better, but isn't any faster.

Oh, and ucode 15 this time.

[Bug 1384831] [NEW] xfce4-volumed stops working when screen gets locked

2014-10-23 Thread Harald Hannelius
Public bug reported:

After locking and unlocking the screen my volume-buttons on my X220
stops working. No OSD, and no volume change.

When looking at the mixer, some colors change when pressing the keyboard
volume-buttons and acpi_listen does see the key-events.

If I kill and restart xfce4-volumed both OSD and volume changing works
again.

[Bug 1382046] Re: libvirt-bin unaware of uids on LDAP when started via systemd

2014-10-17 Thread Harald Hannelius
Oops, I seem to be running /sbin/init as PID #1, this is a symlink to
upstart . I thought I was running systemd, since my /home on NFS didn't
get mounted on boot anymore, and this is a known issue with systemd.

After the upgrade from 14.4 LTS to 14.10 utopic I was about to start my
virtual machines. As myself I was unable to do so;

$ virsh list
error: failed to connect to the hypervisor
error: no valid connection
error: Failed to find user record for uid 'xxx': No such file or directory

I then restarted libvirt-bin and 'virsh list' works again. The command
worked for root all the time.

nscd probably, but this is not a hard requirement depending on how stuff
is configured.

slapd might have to be started, if the host is hosting it's own
directory

networking has to be up if, it not hosting local LDAP directory.

[Bug 1382046] [NEW] libvirt-bin unaware of uids on LDAP when started via systemd

2014-10-16 Thread Harald Hannelius
Public bug reported:

I was unable to connect to libvirtd from my regular user account after
upgrading to Utopic Unicorn.

The error from 'virsh list' was something about that libvirtd couldn't
resolve my uid. failed to find user record for uid I think.

Since I have all non-system users on LDAP remotely, I suspect that
systemd and/or libvirtd was unable to a resolve my uid upon startup and
didn't bother to check again.

It might be a bug in libvirt-bin as well. I don't know.

Tempfix: 'service libvirt-bin restart' and one should be able to connect
again.

[Bug 1328895] [NEW] ckeditor_basic.js missing, cannot compose mail in Horde/IMP

2014-06-11 Thread Harald Hannelius
Fiddled around and found out that the missing ckeditor_basic.js wasn't
causing a fatal error (The Loading... issue). Instead it looks like a
non-enabled spell-checker in Horde preferences was causing this.

I enabled spell-checking in horde, and now the composer loads.

[Bug 1055810] Re: Cannot create keyboard shortcuts

2012-11-28 Thread Harald Hannelius
Default shortcuts such as Alt-F2 'Application Finder' and Cltr-Esc for
'xfdesktop --menu' do work.

It seems like it's the combination of Ctrl-Shift and letter that doesn't
work anymore. It's missing the shift-key, and thus Ctrl-Shift-x or
Ctrl-X (capital X) gets mapped to Ctrl-x (lower case).

[Bug 1055810] Re: Cannot create keyboard shortcuts

2012-11-23 Thread Harald Hannelius
This seems to be related somehow;

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1054034

I have experienced this on four of the computers I have upgraded to
quantal. On all of them I had xflock4 mapped to Ctrl-Shift-L and rxvt to
Ctrl-Shift-X. I cannot configure this behaviour on any of the computers.
If I try to add a mapping as Ctrl-Shift-X it gets mapped as just Ctrl-X.

As a stop-gap measure I have remapped to Ctrl-Alt-X, but this is awkward
for me. I would really like to help in finding the source for this
problem.

[Bug 1055810] [NEW] Cannot create keyboard shortcuts

2012-09-24 Thread Harald Hannelius
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded to 12.10 from 12.04 and noticed that the shortcuts I'm
used to in Xubuntu don't work anymore. I have mapped Ctrl-Shift-X to
start an xterm (rxvt unicode actually these days) and Ctrl-Shift-L to
xflock4. When I try to re-map these in xfce4-keyboard-settings it says
that e.g. xflock4 is mapped to Primaryl. I think it was
Ctrl_LShift_Ll before.

What's more annoying is that the shortcut to xterm doesn't get mapped
into nothing else than a simple Cltr-x. This makes sending e-mail from
alpine a little hard, every time I try pressing Ctrl-X I get a new
terminal instead of sending e-mail.

[Bug 994225] Re: Windows virtual machine no longer starts after upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise)

2012-06-27 Thread Harald Hannelius
I have lost a couple of hours on this on every dist-upgrade of Ubuntu.
Wouldn't it be time to either include some xml-upgrade hook when
upgrading qemu/libvirt/whatever or just drop the version-number from the
'pc' when creating guests?

A freshly installed xubuntu 11.10 with updates authenticating only

the real culprit in the drama is nslcd.

[Bug 915251] [NEW] LightDM + LDAP accounts hang if username is preceded with whitespace

2012-01-12 Thread Harald Hannelius
Public bug reported:

This might affect PAM and/or nslcd instead, but lightdm should be able
to cope with it.

We have our users in an OpenLDAP directory, and I have disabled the user
list from lightdm. Some people seem to have the habit of waking the
monitor by pressing the spacebar, thus entering their username with a
preceding whitespace.

I have a line like this in syslog;

nslcd[2624]: [ac3ac4] username changed from haneliuh to haneliuh

The expected behaviour would be to just reject the login attempt and
return back to the login windows. Instead, lightdm now just hangs. If
one changes to a text console and back the lightdm login windows remains
all light grey.

Apparently this is known in VLAN and bridging;

http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.network.bridge/5362

The (short term?) fix would be to install ebtables, and the run the
command;

  ebtables -t broute -A BROUTING -i eth0 -p 802_1Q -j DROP

This got my interfaces bridging with VLAN again.

Apparmor doesn't seem to be the culprit for me. virt-manager show me the

The guest just stops just after loading the first stage of the
bootloader. This affects my ubuntu 10.10 guest, as well as my Windows Xp

2010-11-03 Thread Harald Hannelius
Still trying to resolve this I installed the following packages
manually;

kvm_84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+0.13.0+noroms+0ubuntu1_i386.deb
qemu-common_0.13.0+noroms-0ubuntu1_all.deb
qemu-kvm-extras_0.13.0+noroms-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
qemu-kvm_0.13.0+noroms-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
qemu_0.13.0+noroms-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

No change actually. My Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP guests boots from the
disk and then just sits there eating CPU. Interestingly, my Windows 7
and ReactOS images did boot up. I even tried creating a new virtual
guest, importing the ubuntu qcow2 existing disk-image to no avail. It
just doesn't get past the starting up.. message just after grub.

Booting the ubuntu-10.10 desktop ISO worked, and installing it too. The
newly created ubuntu 10 install booted fine. Hmm, makes me wonder.

No change by updating to 2.6.35-23-generic-pae. The WinXP-guest doesn't
boot. It just sits there with a black screen saying Booting from Hard
Disk... and chewing 50% CPU constantly.

My Ubuntu 9.10 guest did boot up though. I'm upgrading the guest now,
let's see if that breaks it or not.

I had a dormant guest Debian with kernel 2.6.26-2, this doesn't boot.
CPU pegged on 50% all the time and the only thing visible on the console

I reproduced this bug on my home computer, in the sense that my guests
didn't boot (XP). I haven't booted the old kernel though.

Oh, and I'm using a VMDK-image and it's stated as such in the machine's
XML-file.

[Bug 663191] [NEW] Upgrade to Maverick breaks KVM

2010-10-19 Thread Harald Hannelius
Public bug reported:

After an upgrade from 10.04 LTS to 10.10 KVM-guests hang on boot. WinXP
SP3 shows the XP-logo and the blue bar rolls back and forth, the ubuntu
guest stops after printing starting up . . . .

Both guests consume a steady 50% CPU as shown by virt-managar. This goes
on forever without changing (days).

The kernel supplied with Maverick was linux-image-2.6.35-22-generic-pae,
I then booted the previous 2.6.32-24-generic-pae and now the guests boot
up normally.

[Bug 439552] Re: Policykit authentication fails with 'Error.Failed: Only uid 0 may invoke this method.'

2009-10-27 Thread Harald Hannelius
I'm experiencing the exact same problem. My account resides in an
external LDAP-directory.

polkit-agent-helper-1: error response to PolicyKit daemon: Remote
Exception invoking
org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Authority.AuthenticationAgentResponse() on
/org/freedesktop/PolicyKit1/Authority at name
org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1: org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed:
Only uid 0 may invoke this method. This incident has been logged.

I too, have just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 today.
