[Bug 2058409] Re: Install of tevlive-full hangs: tex/context/base/mkiv/l-sandbox.lua:180: module 'socket.core' not found
We are experiencing the same issue on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. The installation gets stuck at Pregenerating ConTeXt MarkIV format. This may take some time... I can confirm that this has worked a few weeks ago as I am setting up servers using ansible on a regular basis, running the same playbook all the time. When searching for this, I came across this thread: https://askubuntu.com/questions/956006/pregenerating-context-markiv-format-this-may-take-some-time-takes-forever As suggested, pressing Enter *several times* during the installation "resolves" the problem and the installation continues ( lines in the following output are the number of times I pressed enter): --- Pregenerating ConTeXt MarkIV format. This may take some time... done. --- Unfortunately, pressing enter can merely be a workaround, as we need to be able to set up machines automatically using ansible. Therefore a solution would be highly appreciated :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058409 Title: Install of tevlive-full hangs: tex/context/base/mkiv/l-sandbox.lua:180: module 'socket.core' not found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/texlive-base/+bug/2058409/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1885990] Re: server: Match has no effect in include file (upstream 3122)
Why is this marked as "fix released"? It's still broken on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, the fix has not been released into it. At the very least, the behavior does not match what is described in the sshd_config man page. Nowhere does it mention that Match blocks don't work inside Include files. Not only that, the config passes config test, and a LogLevel VERBOSE will say that the Match section has been processed, but then it has really been silently ignored! It took me hours to debug this issue back to a post on the mailing list, to the upstream fix, to this bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885990 Title: server: Match has no effect in include file (upstream 3122) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openssh/+bug/1885990/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Can confirm that sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-20.04 makes everything work. Didn't have to remove OEM. I've tried some earlier generic-kernels where the screen scaling (running 4k) would be off and the buttons for controlling the light (F5 F6) didn't work. [Bug 1911650] Re: builtin wifi not seen by 21.04-jan-13 on asus-ux433f
A fresh update. I think I got it to 'work' (or, hump along) by issuing this command: 'sudo rmmod iwlmvm && sudo modprobe iwlmvm'.' But I have no idea why this helps, and how would a random user figure out they need to do this, to install ubuntu.. A further thing that confuses me, is the naming of the devices. The wireless interface identifies itself as "Intel Cannon Point-LP CNVi [Wireless-AC]" https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id=pci:8086-9df0-8086-0034 which on that page is claimed to (often) work, but also to _not_ work in some configurations. The weird thing about this that confuses me, is that this is NOT what I see in dmesg. Dmesg, instead, talks about DETECTED INTEL WIRELESS-AC 9560, REV=0X318 which then quickly spirals into failing, within 30-60 seconds. So, my confusion is: I do not understand the relationship between "INTEL WIRELESS-AC 9560" and "Intel Cannon Point-LP CNVi [Wireless-AC]". Thus I'm wondering, if it means the 'Cannon Point LP' is mis-identified as the "INTEL WIRELESS-AC 9560", or if it means the Cannon is really implemented with the 9560 chipset. Thus, if there is a bug here (well there certainly is something, since nothing seems to work), that it might be a network interface wrongly identified..? By the way, where I've currently gotten it to work, is with Fedora, as so far I've given up getting it to work with Ubuntu (The problem is, I need the laptop to do work, not to play endlessly around with devicedrivers.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1911650 Title: builtin wifi not seen by 21.04-jan-13 on asus-ux433f To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-kernel-di-amd64-2.6/+bug/1911650/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1911650] Re: builtin wifi not seen by 21.04-jan-13 on asus-ux433f
After some reading up and experiments, I seem to have identified the underlying causes :-( The wireless interface in question, is [Cannon Point-LP CNVi wireless-AC., vendor intel. Version 30.] driver = iwlwifi I guess the issue is that they are not supported properly by any opensource driver, and that they require proprietary binary/non-redistributable drivers. Presumably, 'firmware-iwlwifi'. Ironically, I have not been able to test/fix it, BECAUSE I HAVE NO NETWORK ACCESS :-) This is a tragedy for linux. Network access, in 2021, is the floppy disk of the 2020 - if you have no network access, you have nothing. To resolve it, I instead tried a USB wifi-adapter on the laptop - TPLink AC600. Ubuntu listed it, but completely ignored it(?). At least, it didn't bring me any network either. For the actual state of default iwlwifi with the Cannon Point CNVI, it actually "works", for a few seconds, sometimes. Sometimes it will briefly activate the wifi adapter, browse available networks, and for a brief moment let me connect to and access a network, for 20-30 seconds. Then it breaks down, and doesn't respond again, before a reboot. So, it's not a bug, per se (depends - you COULD say the way iwlwifi breaks, is a bug. I would assume it intends to support the cannon wireless adapter.) Given that a proprietary/nonfree/binary driver presumably exists, that WOULD work (?). However, as a user experience, it is broken. My probable action is to give the laptop away to some friends/family who can install windows on it to get it to work, and I'll have to buy another different laptop, presumably one that there exists working linux drivers for :-(. This bug report should probably be closed, unless it should be counted as a bug report against iwlwifi. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1911650 Title: builtin wifi not seen by 21.04-jan-13 on asus-ux433f To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-kernel-di-amd64-2.6/+bug/1911650/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1911650] [NEW] builtin wifi not seen by 21.04-jan-13 on asus-ux433f
Public bug reported: release: januar13 daily build of 21.04. kernel says 5.8.0-25 expected: that laptop's built-in wifi adapter is recognised during a fresh install. actual: the system does not seem to recognise the laptop's builtin wifi during install, and comes up claiming no wifi adapter could be found. version: I have no idea which package this relates to, I assume the kernel?, but I guess it may also have something to do with installing (?) The reason I'm not reporting this directly from the laptop, is precisely because the network adapter is not recognised... I'm installing daily build jan 13 of ubuntu desktop 21.04. The laptop model is northern european Asus Zenbook UX433F (unfortunately, several UX433F* variants exist.) There are no errors (?), it just doesn't register the wifi network adapter during install. I have been running Ubuntu 20 on this machine until now, with the network working OK, to my knowledge. I'll be happy to report details of the bug again and in other ways, if only I could figure out how. I get lost in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs, which seems to assume me to see some sort of crash or error. I could maybe reinstall version 20 on the machine, to extract info on how the network adapter used to be determined? Ironically, the reason I'm installing U21, is because the touchpad support works horribly on Asus-Ux433, in U20, and I read somewhere this has been fixed in the upcoming Ubuntu. Lo and behold, the touchpad now seems to work perfectly, but at the loss of the network adapter.. I'm pretty sure this is a bug, because a default recognised network adapter is pretty much baseline expected in year 2021, and it's been working with all other linux distros I've tried on the machine so far. It's a recent 2019 design, so I would expect it to work. ** Affects: linux-kernel-di-amd64-2.6 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: network ux433f wifi -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1911650 Title: builtin wifi not seen by 21.04-jan-13 on asus-ux433f To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-kernel-di-amd64-2.6/+bug/1911650/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1773457] Re: Full-system encryption needs to be supported out-of-the-box including /boot and should not delete other installed systems
My attempts to install 20.04 beta desktop or 18.04 LTS netinstall expert mode with full disk LUKS encryption failed. 1. Tried installing 20.04 Desktop ISO: - selected manual partitioning - created a single partition spanning the entire disk - created a volume for encryption on the partition (LUKS) - the LUKS was created, but there is no way to select the sda1_crypt volume as physical device for LVM. The option is absent from the list! So I go manually: - exit out of the installation - open a terminal, create the LVM VG and two LVs: root and swap - start the installer again, now the LVM volumes are displayed - select the root volume to be used as ext4 on / - select swap LV to be used as swap - proceed with installation normally, it finishes without errors. - on reboot, grub drops to rescue shell, unable to find the "lvm" root disk. Probably due to missing GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTODISK=y in /etc/default/grub. 2. Tried the 18.04 LTS netinstall booted over PXE: - selected Advanced options, Expert Install - used manual partitioning to create the same "MBR->partition1->LUKS->LVM->LVs root and swap" layout as above. - installation proceeds fine until the "Install GRUB bootloader to the master boot record", where it errors: "grub-install /dev/sda failed". I try different combinations of grub options here, none work. So I'm unable to create a bootable system. I could probably make the 2nd way work if I switched to the console, found out why it errors, fixed it, and installed it manually. But that's not expected of a normal user! So now, in 2020, we have no way to install Ubuntu without unencrypted /boot. I have numerous machines that I either installed this way in the past, or manually copied over installations to hand-created LUKS and LVM, and with minor tweaks (chrooting into the copied system, adding GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTODISK=y and tweaking fstab and crypttab) I can get them to boot fine. I can swear this used to work on 14.04 and before, so this is a regression! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773457 Title: Full-system encryption needs to be supported out-of-the-box including /boot and should not delete other installed systems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1773457/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1869538] [NEW] Focal installer uses EFI System partition on incorrect disk
Public bug reported: I just wanted to try out the upcoming Ubuntu 20.04 release (for testing/finding bugs) using the latest daily build. For the testing system I decided to install it on an external USB thumb drive (while the laptop also contains an internal NVMe SSD with an Ubuntu 19.10 installation). I kept the default value for all settings in the installer (no custom partitioning) and only selected the external USB drive as target device of the installation. The installer correctly creates the "EFI System" partition (/dev/sdb1) and the root partition (/dev/sdb2) on the target device. However, the "EFI System" partition (/dev/sdb1) turns out to be a completely empty FAT32 partition after finishing the installation, which makes the target device non-bootable. Instead, the installer places its EFI files on the internal SSD (/dev/nvme0n1p1). When booting from the internal SSD (and not from the external USB drive selected as installation target), the newly installed system boots up and mounts /dev/nvme0n1p1 to /boot/efi/. This behavior has two unintended consequences: 1. The target device selected in the installer does not contain a full/bootable installation. I planned to use this installation on an external USB drive for testing the new Ubuntu release on several different computers. This is not possible if the EFI files required for booting are stored on the internal SSD of one laptop. 2. The existing operation system on the internal SSD (which was not selected as target device for the installation) is rendered into a non-bootable state. There is no user interaction/confirmation about that and since I selected another device as installation target, the installer should not even touch the internal SSD. [Bug 1842504] [NEW] Unlock dialog doesn't show up when locking screen while monitor is detached (e.g. via KVM switch)
Public bug reported: When there is no monitor attached while locking the screen with light- locker, the screen will be locked but the unlocking dialog does not show up. Instead, the system shows a black screen with the message "This session is locked. You'll be redirected to the unlock dialog automatically in a few seconds." (sometimes this message is only visible after going to another virtual console and back to [CTRL]+[ALT]+[F7]), but the unlock dialog never shows up. In that state, the session can only be unlocked using "sudo loginctl list-sessions" and then "sudo loginctl unlock-session ..." from a virtual console/SSH connection. This issue can easily be reproduced by running a command like "sleep 30; light-locker-command --lock" and then detaching the VGA/DVI/HDMI monitor cable (and reconnecting it after the screen is locked). The same also happens when using a KVM switch and switching over to another machine directly after triggering the screen lock. Since light-locker typically takes a couple of seconds from triggering the screen lock until the unlocking dialog shows up, it will frequently happen when switching to another system right after locking the screen. Please note that this issue does not happen on a laptop since the integrated screen is always attached. The problem has been verified with a default installation of XUbuntu 18.04 and 19.04. ** Affects: light-locker (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1842504 Title: Unlock dialog doesn't show up when locking screen while monitor is detached (e.g. via KVM switch) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-locker/+bug/1842504/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Since it affects quite a number of users and has 7 duplicate bug reports here, it may be worth considering a SRU for 18.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1665048 Title: xfce4-display-settings crashed with SIGSEGV in convert_xfce_output_info() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-settings/+bug/1665048/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1835668] [NEW] Locking screen on live system no longer possible with Xubuntu 18.10/19.04
Public bug reported: With Xubuntu 18.10/19.04 it is no longer possible to lock the screen on the live system (after setting a password for the "xubuntu" user). With previous versions (up to Xubuntu 18.04 LTS) it was easily possible to set a password (using "passwd" on the command line) and then lock the screen on the live system. With 18.10/19.04 the lock symbol is still present in the Xfce menu but it is not working any more. Running the command "light-locker-command --lock" reports the following error message: Received error message from the locker: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver was not provided by any .service files Investigating the issue shows that the item "Screen Locker" in Settings => "Session and Startup" => "Application Autostart" is disabled on the live system by default (this setting is enabled on the Xubuntu 18.04 live system). This leads to the following workaround: * Go to Settings => "Session and Startup" => "Application Autostart" * Enable "Screen Locker" * Restart session (e.g. using "sudo systemctl restart lightdm.service") After that, the lock screen is working as expected. So it should be rather easy to fix this issue by changing the default value for this setting. Having a possibility to lock the screen is important even on a live system e.g. when doing long-running copying/data rescue tasks involving unlocked encrypted volumes. ** Affects: xubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835668 Title: Locking screen on live system no longer possible with Xubuntu 18.10/19.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xubuntu-meta/+bug/1835668/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1753481] [NEW] add bypass-lan module
Public bug reported: The bypass-lan module was added with strongswan 5.5.2 [1]. It would be excellent if you could build a package for it (or include it into standard/extra plugins package) for the next LTS release (18.04). [Bug 1553503] Re: multi monitors - black flashes or black screen when the mouse cursor leaves a monitor
Christopher, I'm hitting this bug too on my Thinkpad x250 with a dockingstation and two external displays. I'm happy to test, but haven't built a kernel in a long time. Any guidance on how to apply that commit? Is it like this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Testing_a_newly_released_patch_from_upstream If I'm reading it correct that would build the kernel from master and not apply that commit to a 4.4 branch, so not sure how to test. [Bug 1559435] [NEW] Please make compression options customizable
Public bug reported: Currently, using LZ4 as compression type produces an unbootable system, as lz4 is called without the legacy format option -l, which is required to produce a kernel readable image. Also, using lzop there is a very long delay (over one minute) when updating initramfs, as by default the maximum compression setting -9 is passed with no way for the user to change it. Making the compression options customizable (as e.g. mkinitcpio does) would be very useful for advanced users who wish to fine tune their systems for e.g. faster boot times, smaller image sizes, etc. The default options should also be described in mkinitramfs.conf or the man page so users have a starting point for customization without having to go through the source code. [Bug 1406262] Re: Unable to set shortcut to media key PlayPause
The issue I've faced is that somehow the media key of X86PlayPause event cannot be thrown if not the xbindkeys package is sending it through that specific setting. [Bug 1406262] Re: Unable to set shortcut to media key PlayPause
Apparently when I was looking for a way to globally assign the media keys to work with every program, I thought that these lines somehow had something to do with it not working as it should. I suddenly remembered the change and switched it back as I thought it didn't do anything. However, it did in fact disable the key to be executed as a command. Re- adding it fixed the issue and the key now works as it should do. [Bug 1354699] [NEW] libldns.pc (pkg-config description) installed in wrong folder
Public bug reported: After installing libldns-dev, there is a pkg-config file at /usr/lib /pkg-config/libldns.pc, however running "pkg-config --libs libldns" doesn't find it. That's because Ubuntu's standard pkg-config directory is /usr/lib/pkgconfig without a dash. Please fix the package so that the file is installed in the correct location. Test case: $ pkg-config --libs libldns should list required libraries to link against.
