[Bug 1773859] Re: upgrades to 18.04 fail

2018-11-19 Thread Jason M.
CONFIRM: @digitalcircuit's 2018-06-10 recommendation works to complete
do-release-upgrade from 16.04.5 to 18.04.1, after addressing exim4
issue.

[Bug 1773859] Re: upgrades to 18.04 fail

2018-11-19 Thread Jason M.
Similar experience on a DO instance. Initial do-release-upgrade failure
due to bug #1793932: exim4 deprecated conffile issue. Now recovery is
systemd-shim (9-1bzr4ubuntu1) blocked. @digitalcircuit's 2018-06-10
suggestion above did not work for me. Will restore 16.04 and try again
later.

[Bug 344878] Re: file name too long when creating new file (ecryptfs_lookup: lookup_one_len() returned [-36] on lower_dentry)

2015-11-19 Thread Jason M.
My comment is not directly related to this issue, but still it affected
me:

To all git users out there: Using git on encrypted file system, that's where
your filename too long error might come from!
Solution: Move your git directory to a non encrypted file system.

[Bug 1363462] Re: Crucial M550 1TB SSD missing from NCQ TRIM blacklist

Hi @Joseph,

Good news and bad news.

Good news: the Crucical 1TB M550s were recognized and queued trim support was
disabled:

  [   12.098466] ata4.00: status: { DRDY }
  [ 12.098476] ata4: hard resetting link

A RAID1 scrub indicated there was a repair on ATA4, so these resets
caused some data issue(es).

So far, only libata.force=X.YY:noncq seems to fix the problem. After reading
quite a few articles, I'm beginning to think there are some pretty serious
issues w/ the kernel regarding SSDs and controller interactions. There are
many, many folks having trouble, and the consistent response is to disable NCQ,
although there may also be some interactions w/ MSI and SSDs, as least as
indicated by
  - http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.ide/58740
  - https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60731

What surprises me is that so many vendors are providing SSD backed VMs
based on Linux, and yet it's mostly individuals seeing these problems
with common distros, e.g. Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS. Is there some major
disconnect here?

[Bug 1363462] Re: Crucial M550 1TB SSD missing from NCQ TRIM blacklist

2014-11-19 Thread Jason M.
I have the same problem with two Crucial 1TB M550s:

 [4.094763] ata4.00: ATA-9: Crucial_CT1024M550SSD1, MU01, max UDMA/133
 [4.095063] ata3.00: ATA-9: Crucial_CT1024M550SSD1, MU01, max UDMA/133

and have suffered data-loss in a RAID1 config that required a reinstall.
I also see the errors on my two other Intel SSDs:

Good find, my friend! That seems to have also fixed the issue for me.
The shell themes drop-down displays correctly and the themes change just
as they should.

Thank you.

2010-01-24 Thread Jason M.
I'm very sorry to tell you, that your Aktualisierungsverwaltung wanted to
install grub-pc without my agreement. I put away the
agree-button but the packed, however, was downloaded. Please fix this bug!

So, maybe this fault is no bug. But why does Ubuntu-update install packages
which I selected as not to install?
Is there any possibility to stop this?

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 500791
   package grub-pc 1.97~beta4-1ubuntu4.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess
installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
