[Bug 1287171] Re: light-locker breaks x11vnc as service
I use ssvnc as a client and am able to connect to a password protected x11vnc service. ssvnc offers me a black screen to enter the x11vnc login credentials, it accepts these credentials but then *bypasses* (!) the lock screen of the remote desktop and immediately shows me the remote desktop! However, I'm not able to use the remote desktop with mouse or keyboard in any way (ssvnc is definitely not configured to connect read-only). The same setup using x11vnc and ssvnc had worked before with Ubuntu 13.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1287171 Title: light-locker breaks x11vnc as service To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-locker/+bug/1287171/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1310220] [NEW] System sound volume gets reduced when screen lock is activated
Public bug reported: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 2) The version of the package you are using light-locker 1.4.0-0ubuntu1 3) What you expected to happen Locking the screen should have no impact on the sound volume of the system. 4) What happened instead Light-Locker sets the sound volume of the system to about 50% to 60% of the maximal sound volume when screen locking is activated. The bug depends on the setting Automatically lock screen in the Light Locker Settings. If it's set to never the bug doesn't occur. Set the following values to reproduce it: Blank screen after: 1 minute Enable light-locker: on Automatically lock screen: when the screensaver is activated Delay locking after screensaver for: 10 seconds Then play music or something else that uses sound and set the sound volume of the system to maximum. Wait for Light-Locker to blank the screen. The screen gets locked and the sound volume of the system is set as described above after the amount of seconds in Delay locking after screensaver for have passed. Yes, I've updated to Firebug 1.10.2 I'm not sure if you're guess of bug #1035305 being related to this one is right. My steps to reproduce in comment 45 indicate that the crash doesn't happen when switching to firefox (like in bug #1035305) but when switching away from it (opening the HUD). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1025011 Title: HUD search causes firefox to crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/1025011/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I installed the packages which are supposed to fix this bug from precise-proposed yesterday. Before this update I could reproduce the crash 100%. Now it's working better but it's not fully fixed yet: I *sometimes* manage to crash Firefox when I do a HUD search. I still haven't figured out when that happens and will post here once I find out.
[Bug 1025011] Re: HUD search causes firefox to crash
Here's a stack trace I created following the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs#Run_Firefox_in_a_Debugger I'm still not sure how to reproduce it, it's just trial and error. I just switched to Firefox to other running applications and back again, opened the HUD every now and then, and most of the time there's no crash. And then suddenly it happens. I hope the stack trace can help you. It also seems that the crash can happen when Firefox doesn't have the focus while opening the HUD. ** Attachment added: gdb.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/globalmenu-extension/+bug/1025011/+attachment/3255699/+files/gdb.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1025011 Title: HUD search causes firefox to crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/1025011/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1025011] Re: HUD search causes firefox to crash
I finally managed to reproduce the bug. The cause seems to be the drop down list of the location bar in Firefox in combination with the Firebug extension. My Ubuntu setup: Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit, all latest packages installed as of now, plus all latest firefox packages from precise-proposed as of now. Prerequisites: 1. Have a few URLs in your browser history. We need the drop down box of the location bar to be populated with some items. 2. Have the Firebug extension for Firefox installed (I have the current latest version 1.10.2) Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Firefox. On my setup it starts with one tab showing a blank empty page. No need to open any web page. 2. Go into the location bar of Firefox and press ALT-DOWN. The drop down box of the location bar opens. No need to select anything there. 3. Press ALT to open the HUD and enter a search term which creates some results in the HUD. 4. Press ESC two times in the HUD to make it disappear, 5. Go into the location bar of Firefox again and press ALT-DOWN again. The drop down box of the location bar opens again. No need to select anything there. 6. Press ALT to open the HUD again and enter a search term which creates some results in the HUD. 7. Crash! This reproduces the bug more than 95% of the time. In some rare case I need three or four rounds of openening the location bar and the HUD, and sometimes additionally going up and down the items in the drop down box of the location bar with the arrow keys to get the crash. If I disable Firebug everything works fine and I'm not able to reproduce the bug then.

A value of 192 or bigger, set with hdparm -B, seems to be the range of values with no load cycles. The load cycles are *not* limited to battery power mode on my system. [Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards
IBM Thinkpad R52 with X300: Gutsy Release Candidate, clean install and upgraded to all latest packages as of today. Freezes appear as well, sometimes pretty quick after a few minutes, but at least after about 20 minutes. I use the ati open source driver. lscpi output is attached. Remembering that the Gutsy RC *live* system seemed to work pretty well on my laptop with compiz enabled I tried that again today: I started the Gutsy 7.10 Final live system from CD and played around with compiz four more than half an hour. [Bug 117328] Writing to DVD-RAM creates corrupted folders
Public bug reported: ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, all recent updates installed as of 27 May 2007. I've been doing backups by coping files and folders to DVD-RAM since Dapper Drake on my IBM R52 Laptop, but haven't seen this problem before upgrading to Feisty Fawn. If I copy a folder to DVD-RAM, mostly everything works fine. Sometimes, however, it only *seems* to work fine: the folder appears on the DVD-RAM and its contents are there as well - as long as I don't remove the disc. If I remove it and insert in again, the folder is corrupted and stays corrupted. In the shell, ls -l outputs: drwx-- 4 bla bla 136 2007-05-10 18:54 GoodFolder1 ?- ? ? ? ??BadFolder drwx-- 3 bla bla 84 2007-04-24 20:30 GoodFolder3 Nautilus lists it as unknown type If I try to delete the folder using either rm -R BadFolder or sudo rm -R BadFolder, I get (translated back from German to English) rm: Calling lstat not possible for „Badfolder“: Permission denied I already formatted the DVD-RAM using dvd+rw-format -format=full /dev/scd0 and copyied some folders to it afterwards. It worked for some time, but now a corrupted folder appeared again. The same discs have been used before on Dapper and Edgy without any problems. This error happens on about 2 out of 4 discs and I've found no steps which reproduce it 100% so far. Again, this seems to have been introduced in Feisty Fawn, because I never had this before. If you need more information, please let me know. This is a serious issue, because I can't rely on my backups anymore. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Writing to DVD-RAM creates corrupted folders https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117328 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 40561] Re: Problem with USB Mass Storage
The log I posted above is from Feisty Beta, which I started from CD as a LIVE system on my laptop in order to test the stick. However, I get the same behaviour on my installed Edgy (same machine and stick). What I haven't tried so far is testing it from an *installed* Feisty (I won't be able to do that before the end of April). What I found out as well is that the error depends on a combination of the amount of files and the size of these files. Copying one big file of 200MB doesn't cause any problems, copying 6000 files of 80MB will produce the error, however, splitting these 6000 files into chunks and doing a sync after each chunk it works fine. Example: ~/Folder/Subfolder1 contains 2000 files of 20MB ~/Folder/Subfolder2 contains 2000 files of 20MB ~/Folder/Subfolder3 contains 1000 files of 20MB ~/Folder/Subfolder4 contains 1000 files of 20MB Copying ~/Folder do the stick will cause the crash. Copying each subfolder separately with a sync after each subfolder runs fine. Seems like there's a limit of the amount of files and/or file size which defines if the error occurs or not. -- Problem with USB Mass Storage https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/40561 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 40561] Re: Problem with USB Mass Storage
I have the same or a similar problem with a brand new Verbatim Store'n'go 1 GB USB stick. When writing a lot of files (say 4000 files of 80MB) to the stick, I got an error message and it got unmounted. After that, all data and even the partition table was lost! Because of a possible manufacturing error I returned the stick and had it replaced with another one (same model). The first thing I did on the new one was dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb then I created a FAT32 partition. I still get lots of write errors on that one, but at least the partition table stays intact (maybe due to the dd...?). I have the problem on Edgy (all updates installed) and tested with a live CD of Feisty Beta as well. Same error on both (on a IBM Thinkpad R52). [Bug 49030] Re: HP 5940 prints black boxes when printing 2 pages on 1
I just tried to reproduce it again (this time ubuntu 6.10, all latest updates installed): with Evince: printing 2 pages on 1 doesn't work *at* *all* anymore, this feature seems to be broken generally. I always get 1 page on 1 page. [Bug 67341] Re: powernowd doesn't use /etc/default/powernowd anymore
More info: I controlled the speedstepping by running BOINC (http://climateprediction.net). After login or when I use sudo /etc/init.d/powernowd start the CPU goes up to highest speed as soon as the BOINC project starts running, and it stays there. Nice value of the process is 19. When I stop and start powernowd like I wrote in my initial posting: sudo powernowd -q -m 2 -l 40 -u 90 -s 10 then the speedstepping is done in that mode and the CPU stays at low frequency when BOINC is running. The output is: powernowd: verbosity:Settings: powernowd: verbosity:1 powernowd: mode: 2 (PASSIVE) powernowd: step: 100 MHz (10 kHz) powernowd: lowwater:40 % powernowd: highwater: 90 % powernowd: poll interval: 1000 ms powernowd: Found 1 scalable unit: -- 1 'CPU' per scalable unit powernowd: cpu0: 800Mhz - 1866Mhz (12 steps) powernowd: step1 : 1866Mhz powernowd: step2 : 1766Mhz powernowd: step3 : 1666Mhz powernowd: step4 : 1566Mhz powernowd: step5 : 1466Mhz powernowd: step6 : 1366Mhz powernowd: step7 : 1266Mhz powernowd: step8 : 1166Mhz powernowd: step9 : 1066Mhz powernowd: step10 : 966Mhz powernowd: step11 : 866Mhz powernowd: step12 : 800Mhz If I just do sudo powernowd passing no parameters to it, the output is just powernowd: Found 1 scalable unit: -- 1 'CPU' per scalable unit powernowd: cpu0: 800Mhz - 1866Mhz (5 steps) which looks like the AGRESSIVE mode and not the one I saved in /etc/default/powernowd. However, starting powernowd that way results in the CPU staying at lowest frequency as well when BOINC is running. So, there are two issues actually: 1. Options set in /etc/default/powernowd arent used at all, no matter how powernowd is started 2. There's a difference in speedstepping behaviour, depending on the way powernowd is started: sudo /etc/init.d/powernowd start = nice value ignored sudo powernowd = nice value respected -- powernowd doesn't use /etc/default/powernowd anymore https://launchpad.net/bugs/67341 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 67341] powernowd doesn't use /etc/default/powernowd anymore
Public bug reported: Clean install of Edgy Eft Release Candidate, powernowd version 0.97-1ubuntu6 I've set the option OPTIONS=-q -m 2 -l 40 -u 90 -s 10 in /etc/default/powernowd in order to run powernowd in PASSIVE mode. However, the behaviour I see is that the speedstepping is still done in AGRESSIVE mode. So I guess the file is ignored. When I stop powernowd with sudo /etc/init.d/powernowd stop and start it again with sudo powernowd -q -m 2 -l 40 -u 90 -s 10 the speedstepping is done fine and complying to the options I provided. However, starting it with sudo /etc/init.d/powernowd start results in the erroneous behaviour again. [Bug 52703] Re: Jerky video/DVD playback since kernel update
Seems like one of the latest (kernel?) updates solved the problem with video playback. It's working fine again now in 2.6.15-26. The problems with Rhythmbox and with the short little animation of an extending frame, which I reported above, are solved as well. What remains unfixed is 3D (Google Earth for example), which is not usable in 2.6.15-26 but works fine in 2.6.15-23. [Bug 52703] Jerky video/DVD playback since kernel update
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-26-686 I have ubuntu 6.06 installed (no upgrade from Breezy). All packages are from the ubuntu repositories (and very few from PLF). No drivers compiled by myself. System: IBM Thinkpad R52 with an ATI Radeon Mobility M300 Updating from kernel 2.6.15-23 to 2.6.15-25 created a few problems, which still exist in 2.6.15-26: * DVD and video playback is choppy / jerky (no matter which player I use). This makes the latest kernel useless for me and I've kept using 2.6.15-23 instead. * Rhythmbox hangs very often when starting (while checking the music library) * When you have an application starter on a panel and click it, there's this short little animation of an extending frame indicating that the application is started. This animation needs almost 2 seconds (instead of maybe a quarter of a second) to finish and is jerky as well. This is not anything serious but might be a hint for the cause of the problem. Why I think the kernel update is the cause: I had an image of my system in a good and working state, made before the update to 2.6.15-25. After discovering the problems I installed this image again. Then I updated linux-image-2.6.15-26 and linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-26 only. After that, the problems were there again. So it must be in one these two packages. I'm using the -686 packages. If you need more info please let me know. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Jerky video/DVD playback since kernel update https://launchpad.net/bugs/52703 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
