I've done more extensive testing and it seems that when installing grub
with the --no-nvram option, all goes well. Setting EFI vars is what
mucks up.

Just tried 20.04 and the behaviour has improved, but the core problem remains.
Now, at least the installer recognizes the issue and exits gracefully, but grub
still fails to install.

As a temporary workaround, set /org/gnome/desktop/sound/theme-name to
the default "Yaru". You can use the following command for this:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.sound theme-name 'Yaru'

[Bug 1801780] Re: Unable to select Yaru sound theme in sound effects

** Description changed:

  Release of Ubuntu:
  18.10

  Version of gnome-control-center:
  1:3.30.1-1ubuntu2

  Expected:
- Under the sound settings menu, the "default" setting in the sound effects tab
should set the sound scheme to the now default "Yaru". "Yaru" should also be
listed as an entry.
+ Under the sound settings menu, the "default" setting in the sound effects tab
should enable the user to reset the sound scheme to the now default "Yaru".
"Yaru" should also be listed as an entry.

  What happened instead:
- The "default" setting in the sound effects tab sets
/org/gnome/desktop/sound/theme-name to "freedesktop" instead of the default
"Yaru" if the scheme was already changed from the default value. I had to reset
the sound effect by using the "Use default value" toggle in dconf-editor.
Interestingly, if the sound scheme is already set to "Yaru", selecting the
"default" option in the sound effects tab keeps the scheme set to "Yaru".
- Furthermore, "Yaru" is not listed as an entry in this tab at all.

[Bug 1801780] [NEW] Unable to select Yaru sound theme in sound effects

2018-11-05 Thread Joey van Hummel
Public bug reported:

Release of Ubuntu:
18.10

Version of gnome-control-center:
1:3.30.1-1ubuntu2

Expected:
Under the sound settings menu, The "default" setting in the sound effects tab
should set the sound scheme to the now default "Yaru". "Yaru" should also be
listed as an entry.

What happened instead:
Under the sound settings menu, The "default" setting in the sound effects tab
sets /org/gnome/desktop/sound/theme-name to "freedesktop" instead of the
default "Yaru". Furthermore, "Yaru" is not listed as an entry in this tab at
all. Users now have to reset the sound effect by using the "Use default value"
toggle in dconf-editor.

[Bug 1800690] [NEW] Non-adjacent Displays fails with uninformative error

2018-10-30 Thread Joey Eremondi
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu Cosmic

Package: gnome-control-center:
  Installed: 1:3.30.1-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1:3.30.1-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.30.1-1ubuntu2 500
500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expected: an error message about non-adjacent displays when non-adjacent
displays were preventing a resolution change
What happened: a generic error message about "hardware limitations".

When trying to change the resolution of my displays, when multiple displays
were connected, it failed with the error "Changes Cannot Be Applied: this could
be due to hardware limitations."

However, if I run gnome-control-center from the command line, I get the
following, much more helpful output:

(gnome-control-center:7405): display-cc-panel-WARNING **: 10:15:42.267:
Config not applicable:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Logical monitors not
adjecent

Indeed, moving the displays to be adjacent within the settings app fixed
the problem and allowed the resolution to be changed.

The GUI should inform users when non-adjacent displays are preventing a
settings change, instead of failing with an uninformative message.

[Bug 1794980] [NEW] Outdated icons used on slides

2018-09-28 Thread Joey-Elijah Sneddon via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Affects: ubuntu 18.10;
Package: ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu;
Expectation: icons used in slideshow should match the icons used on the desktop;
What happens: icons don't match or are inconsistent;

++

A minor bug, but some of the icons used in the Ubuntu slides that refer
to software and/or features which are installed or available on Ubuntu
do not match the 'new' Suru icon theme set.

For example, the "music" slide shows the upstream Rhythmbox icon, and
the "Photos" slide shows the upsream Shotwell icon. Neither icon appears
on the default Ubuntu desktop, meaning a user who installs Ubuntu 18.10
for the first time will have a hard time trying to locate those apps by
the icons shown in the slideshow.

Similarly the "assistive technologies", "languages" and "appearance"
icons are affected, while the Firefox icon and LibreOffice icons shown
on the "browse" slide are outdated as both upstreams now have 'newer'
icons.

** Affects: ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1742502] Re: 108 and 109 kernel hangs

2018-02-14 Thread Joey Stanford
Joe,

116 puts VMWARE into a loop. It forces a hard reboot somewhere during
the init process (scrolls by too fast). If I had NOPTI it boots
normally. So I would say, no, 116 does not fix this.

[Bug 1742502] [NEW] 108 and 109 kernel hangs

2018-01-10 Thread Joey Stanford
Public bug reported:

Overnight I had 2 of 12 16.04 servers brick with the 108 kernel. They
also do not work with 109. They work fine with 104. The other 10 worked
fine on both 108 and 109.

All are hosted on VMWARE. The two broken ones stop at the same place. I
was able to go back to the 104 kernel to get them working and pin the
kernel version.

Just for fun, I set zswap.enabled=0 and they both crashed with kthread
starved for jiffies. They are both multi-processor with lots of ram and
disk.

I have a task from the Ubuntu Kernel team to try this with 'nopti'. I'll
report back.

[Bug 1507505] Re: Unable to install GRUB in /dev/nvme

2017-07-16 Thread Joey
Similar to the other bug reports, I receive the following error when
following the installation wizard on Ubuntu 16.04: "Unable to install
GRUB in /dev/nvme"

I was able to get an encrypted install of Ubuntu with v16.04 with the
bootloader on /dev/nvme0n1 working with UEFI boot, with some small
tweaks following comments #14 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/grub-installer/+bug/1507505/comments/14) and #19
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-
installer/+bug/1507505/comments/19),

The steps I followed in the installer were:

1) Select manual partition setup
2) make sure drive /dev/nvme0n1 is blank
3) create a partition at front of drive, 1000MB (whatever size you need),
mapped to /boot
4) create "physical encrypted partition" following the boot partition with the
remaining space
5) assign new encrypted partition with the / mount point
6) select /dev/nvme0n1 as the partition to install the boot loader

[Bug 1132063] Re: Mouse settings missing from Mouse & Touchpad dialog

2016-06-29 Thread Joey Yakimowich-Payne
For me, I'm using a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000, and no
workarounds were working. lxinput and xset both did nothing, however I
did manage to get xinput to work.

I got the id of my mouse from here:

$> xinput --list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v2.0id=13 [slave pointer
 (2)] <- I picked this one
⎜ ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v2.0id=14 [slave pointer
 (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=7[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Sleep Button id=8[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ HD Webcam C615id=9[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Apple, Inc Apple Keyboard id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Apple, Inc Apple Keyboard id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v2.0id=12 [slave
keyboard (3)]

I picked 13, since there were multiple id's with the same name, and
listed the properties:

$> xinput list-props 13
Device 'Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v2.0':
Device Enabled (152): 1
Coordinate Transformation Matrix (154): 1.00, 0.00, 0.00,
0.00, 1.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 1.00
Device Product ID (269):1118, 1861
Device Node (270): "/dev/input/event6"
Evdev Axis Inversion (285): 0, 0
Evdev Axes Swap (287): 0
Axis Labels (288): "Rel X" (162), "Rel Y" (163), "Rel Horiz Wheel"
(277), "Rel Dial" (278), "Rel Vert Wheel" (279), "Rel Misc" (280)
Button Labels (289):"Button Left" (155), "Button Middle" (156),
"Button Right" (157), "Button Wheel Up" (158), "Button Wheel Down" (159),
"Button Horiz Wheel Left" (160), "Button Horiz Wheel Right" (161), "Button
Side" (275), "Button Extra" (276), "Button Unknown" (273), "Button Unknown"
(273), "Button Unknown" (273), "Button Unknown" (273)
Evdev Scrolling Distance (290): 1, 1, 1
Evdev Middle Button Emulation (291):0
Evdev Middle Button Timeout (292): 50
Evdev Third Button Emulation (293): 0
Evdev Third Button Emulation Timeout (294): 1000
Evdev Third Button Emulation Button (295): 3
Evdev Third Button Emulation Threshold (296): 20
Evdev Wheel Emulation (297):0
Evdev Wheel Emulation Axes (298): 0, 0, 4, 5
Evdev Wheel Emulation Inertia (299):10
Evdev Wheel Emulation Timeout (300):200
Evdev Wheel Emulation Button (301): 4
Evdev Drag Lock Buttons (302): 0

Notice how there is no mention of "Mouse Acceleration" or any such
thing. I suspected that "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" had something
to do with it, so I tried changing the values:

&> xinput --set-prop 13 "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" 1.30,
0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 1.30, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00,
1.00

It worked! I just multiplied the first 2 "1.000"'s by the same
number (which I guess are X and Y speed) and now my mouse has a good
speed.

[Bug 1558489] Re: touchpad stopped working

2016-04-04 Thread Joey Zenhäusern
I am on 4.4.0-15.31 and my device is a Asus UX32VD laptop. My touchpad
also stopped working. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 and installed the 4.4
kernel through the linux-image-generic-lts-xenial package, and it's been
working without problems up until yesterday.

I was able to regain some functionality using this solution:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/262287/synaptic-touchpad-on-laptop-not-
working

But the touchpad remains sluggish and scrolling does not work.

[Bug 1434556] Re: tls in ubuntu-push client doesn't support certs with 384/512 signatures...

2015-04-13 Thread Joey Stanford
fwiw, we've had to stop issuing SHA-512 certs for fear that it will
affect users. We do have some 512s that are out there yet. I'd like to
resume issuing 512s instead of 256 as soon as you believe the fix has
been populated out to the user base. At that time we'll start to re-
issue our 256s as 512s when they expire.

Our normal process is to choose a security stance that allows for the
widest amount of access using protocols that are still considered
secure. In this specific case, the algorithms to support 512 are
(usually) part of the 256 set but yet provide a slightly better security
posture and have slightly better hashing performance over 256. SHA-2 has
been out since 2001 and I believe it's penetration is sufficient at this
point for us to legitimately use it without any ill effects.

[Bug 1396338] Re: [Dell Latitude E7440] Wifi keeps dropping with Intel Wireless 7260

2014-12-02 Thread Joey Richards
FYI, I seem to have this problem with my Dell XPS 13 (2014 Ubuntu
Developer's Edition). This also has the Intel wifi chipset (Intel(R)
Dual Band Wireless AC 7260, REV=0x144). I had the same error messages
and very similar overall behavior.

I updated to the latest mainline kernel as suggested and I have not had
a dropout since, which is probably 5 hours of active wifi over two days.
Previously it was disconnecting every 5-15 minutes in a very low-traffic
environment.

The working mainline kernel is: 3.18.0-031800rc7-generic
Previously I was having this problem with: 3.16.0-25-generic

Since I am not the original reporter and I have a slightly different
configuration, I am not going to update the tags/status, but I suggest
he try the kernel.

[Bug 1391555] [NEW] Bluetooth mouse battery reported as Extra battery

2014-11-11 Thread Joey Richards
Public bug reported:

In several places, the battery status for my Logitech M557 Bluetooth
mouse is being incorrectly reported as a generic battery or laptop
battery.

This shows up in two places related to gnome-power-manager. In the
System Settings/Power screen, under the heading Batteries there are
two bars, one for Main and one for Extra. The Main corresponds to
the laptop battery and the Extra corresponds to the mouse battery. I
expected to see a separate entry for the mouse, or at least a more
descriptive label than Extra.

In the gnome-power-statistics interface, the mouse battery appears as
Laptop battery with a model Bluetooth Mouse M557. It should appear
as a Mouse battery: or Bluetooth Mouse battery or something similar.

I am not certain that this is the appropriate package for the bug report
because I do not know which is responsible for the initial error or
whether it is an independent error in several packages. If I am in the
wrong place, I would appreciate help routing this to the correct place.
This (or a similar) bug also shows up in indicator-power. Let me know if
I should post a bug separately for that package---I am holding off
because it seems possible that is a knock-on effect of the problem here
and I don't want to spam the bug reports.

Thx Timo for your remind, official Qt 5.3.1 do not fix this bug, I just
used the wrong qmlscene to execute the qml file

Now I can confirm that both Ubuntu's 5.3.0 and Digia's 5.3.1 can
reproduce this bug.

@Olivier: Thanks for the prompt response. So which image version should
I do the test on? 14.04 or 14.10? We are now currently using 14.04
(trusty) image for the OEM customization.

@Yang: will you have a quick try and feedback here the test result?

[Bug 1334546] [NEW] The search engine is hard coded into the webbroswer-app

2014-06-26 Thread Joey Zheng
Public bug reported:

The search engine is hard coded into the webbroswer-app.

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~phablet-team/webbrowser-
app/14.04/view/head:/src/app/AddressBar.qml

function buildSearchUrl(query) {
var searchUrl =
https://google.com/search?client=ubuntuq=%1ie=utf-8oe=utf-8;
var terms = query.split(/\s/).map(escapeHtmlEntities)
return searchUrl.arg(terms.join(+))
}

So can we add a way to easily change or customize the search engine?

[Bug 1184077] Re: kde-l10n-zhcn depends on ibus-pinyin

2014-04-18 Thread Joey Chan
This is unacceptable that kde-l10n-zhcn has a dependency of ibus-pinyin,
because for Chinese end-users, they do have choices to install what
input method they like.

So pls pls pls pls pls pls pls remove the dependency of ibus-pinyin

** Description changed:

- Release:
+ Release:
  Kubuntu 13.04/KDE 4.10.3

  Package:
- kde-l10n-zhcn Version 4.10.3-0ubuntu1~ubuntu13.04~ppa1
+  kde-l10n-zhcn Version 4.10.3-0ubuntu1~ubuntu13.04~ppa1

- What I wanted to do:
+ What I wanted to do:
Uninstall package ibus (IME), ibus-pinyin, ibus-pinyin-db-open-database,
pinyin-database, python-ibus, libibus-1.0.0

  What instead happened:
4.10.3-0ubuntu1~ubuntu13.04~ppa1 depends on package ibus-pinyin. Uninstalling
ibus doesn't work, only if uninstalling kde-l10n-zhcn as well as
languagepack-kde-zh-hans.

Does that make sense? I use fcitx and there are more IME around. So I
don't need ibus as far as I understand. Could that be changed?

  Thank you!
+
+
+ / Also affect latest version 14.04 Kubuntu LTS
