[Bug 1816294] Re: libldac packaging

Hi Jeremy,

Much appreciated if this could be included for 20.04 or earlier. Fedora already
packaged it according to this thread:

[Bug 1740182] Re: No chromecast support

2018-03-10 Thread Johan Fornander
When installing vlc via snap I get chromecast support out of the box.
Why has it been disabled in the debian package? I know there was a
problem with vlc/chromecast and gnutls-bin before but that has been
resolved in gnutls-bin 3.5.17-1.

[Bug 1366543] Re: [Acer Aspire 3820] suspend/resume failure

Unless the suspend/resume failure was cuased by the xorg-edgers ppa
being enabled, then this problem has been resolved. I update my system
daily and have installed the 3.17-rc4 generic kernel.

[Bug 735072] Re: The hostname proposed by installer is too long for file sharing to work correctly.

2011-04-25 Thread Johan Fornander
The source code in the official samba git (source/lib/util.c) seems to
use HOST_NAME_MAX and I found an inconsistency in the code base:

source/lib/replace/replace.h:
 384 #ifndef HOST_NAME_MAX
 385 #define HOST_NAME_MAX 255

source/lib/replace/system/network.h
 269 #ifndef HOST_NAME_MAX
 270 #define HOST_NAME_MAX 256

Which one is used?

Then here is what I think my problem is:

The function get_myname() in util.c uses
char hostname[HOST_NAME_MAX];

Another function in the same file, set_netbios_aliases(), blindly uses
this hostname through helper functions without checking its boundaries
to match those of a valid NetBIOS name.

Now I could be wrong since I just took 5 minutes to check the source code while
also skimming this link:
http://www.tech-faq.com/netbios-names.html

How this is supposed to work out of the box when windows machines, or osx for
that matter, only recognizes NetBIOS names of length 15 is beyond me. Can this
really have been overlooked since the inception of samba or am I missing
something here?

The crash logs weren't there when I looked. There were some compiz crash
log but from another date than the one I reported the bug, maybe they
got overwritten? If you are unable to resolve the crash without them
feel free to close the bug. I haven't had a unity related crash in a
while now but will reopen if it shows up again and then submit the whole
log. Thanks!

@Bryce: Yes, booting with only discrete or integrated enabled does solve
the problem for me as well.

@Dweia: I patched the CMOS for my 3820TG and unlocked the Intel menu.
Now I can choose to only have the IGD activated and PEG (radeon)
completely shut off drawing zero power. Same thing as going through
vga_switcheroo or using the acpi calls but less hassle.

I have taken logs from a set of ubuntu kernels starting up using the
requested kernel boot argument drm.debug=0x0e:

2.6.38-7 --- fb0: radeondrmfb frame buffer device

2.6.39-rc1-- kernel oops (pointing to evergreen something), not caught in the
logs. seems to be a new offset than the reported one above

Please see the attached files containng dmesg and kern.log for each
kernel. There are some other interesting things in the logs like invalid
DSDT and stuff that I will look into further.

[Bug 735072] Re: The hostname proposed by installer is too long for file sharing to work correctly.

2011-03-31 Thread Johan Fornander
Mac OS X broadcasts the first 15 characters of your hostname via
NetBIOS. This works for them so it could be a good solution for Ubuntu
as well.

If you have to, you could perhaps set up a truncated hostname alias if
the samba hostname must be reachable through /etc/hosts? That way the
machine could be reached by both 15 and 63 (or 255) byte names, or am I
wrong? If not, just truncate it in the smb.conf and notify user of the
shorter NETBIOS name to browse for just like in OSX? I'm for the second
option.

BTW, make sure that you use 15 and not 16 characters as the limit for
samba hosts... From wikipedia:

The NetBIOS name is 16 ASCII characters, however Microsoft limits the
hostname to 15 characters and reserves the 16th character as a NetBIOS
Suffix.

[Bug 745337] [NEW] wl0: PSM microcode watchdog fired at 1478 (seconds). Resetting.

2011-03-29 Thread Johan Fornander
Public bug reported:

Lately my notebook has been doing a watchdog reset effectively killing the
desktop session and brutally landing in a busybox session.
These are usually the last lines in kern.log when that happens:

Mar 28 21:50:35 taco kernel: [ 174.090910] wl0: PSM microcode watchdog fired
at 146 (seconds). Resetting.
Mar 28 21:50:35 taco kernel: [ 174.090914] wlc_dpc : PSM Watchdog, chipid

Sometimes the system does some more logging before the kernel dies but
most often not.

[Bug 735072] Re: The hostname proposed by installer is too long for file sharing to work correctly.

2011-03-28 Thread Johan Fornander
** Description changed:

I have an Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG notebook running Natty.

When installing Natty the installer wizard proposed the hostname johan-
aspire-3820 (17 characters). This made it impossible for me to share
files over the network using a machine running OSX on the other end.
Changing the hostname to a shorter (4 characters in my case) made file
sharing work again after rebooting. I have been using the sharing option
through right-clicking in nautilus and would like to see the following
  changes:

- 1. A limit of X (depending on samba?) characters for hostname when performing
a fresh install. If the user wants a longer one this could be done using some
override setting option.
- 2. Also, when trying to share files through nautilus, check to see if the
hostname does fit withing the limit X or else give the user an option to change
this.

As of today I no longer experience this bug. I don't know if it was the
compiz or unity update but it solved the probem.

[Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot (Regression from 2.6.38-3 to -4)

2011-03-22 Thread Johan Fornander
I have a theory... Maybe there is a race condition between the intel and
ati driver involved here? My notebook starts up in two seemingly random
configurations, or three including the radeon crash:

1. X server is on VT8 - unable to unload radeon module because it is in
use (by some framebuffer I guess). I am also unable to switch to
consoles VT1-7. If I use vga_switcheroo to switch to integrated gpu in
this mode then radeon crashes.

2. X server is on VT7 - I can unload the radeon module and use the
consoles VT1-6. vga_switcheroo works and I can also use acpi calls to
turn off the gpu.

3. The radeon driver crashes. Forcing reboot through RSEIUB.

This makes it difficult to control the temperature since I cannot know
if the radeon module is in use or not (i.e. I might or might not be able
to use the vga_switcheroo, or unload the module and use a specific acpi
call to shut of the gpu).

[Bug 687660] Re: Empty desktop after login

2011-03-22 Thread Johan Fornander
For me, this is most likely a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/684991

When I ran unity-replace I got the same problem as in this link.

where and to what project? This is kind of part of the crashing
