2013-02-05 Thread John Swing
Hi,

I've tried the 3.8-rc6 kernel and it seems that the overheating problem
is gone !

My laptop have the Optimus hybrid graphics system, I have to use
bumblebee in order to enable the Nvidia card, and I think it's not
compatible with the Nouveau driver.

 Title:
   Applications freeze randomly in 13.04

Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:
At random all audio players (even VLC) freeze completely when playing
mp3s (it doesn't seem to happen with videos and I have not been able
to test other formats as yet). It seems to be reproducible by trying
to seek the file when its playing or by changing to another song on
   the playlist.

I've tried to get some useful information on this bug using strace and
running various audio players from the command line, but nothing so
far as shown up that indicates the source of the trouble.

   Update:
   Finally capture something from Banshee:

[Info 10:03:49.757] GStreamer version 1.0.3.0, gapless: False,
 replaygain: False
[Warn 10:04:07.917] Seem to be stuck loading
 file:///home/rolandixor/Music/Big%20Duke/Unknown%20Album/60.%20Not%20Loosing.mp3,
 so re-trying

Please not this has nothing to do with Banshee specifically (happens
with clementine, gmusicbrowser, etc), and it happens in VLC as well
(does VLC use gstreamer on Linux?).

[Bug 1096589] Re: All audio players freeze randomly in 13.04

2013-01-08 Thread John Swing
Hello,

I have a similar problem, audio players seem to randomly freeze while
playing mp3s. I'll try to get a stacktrace with gdb maybe you could try
too by following these steps :

1. Start Banshee in a terminal with banshee --debug
2. Open another terminal
3. Hook gdb onto the running Banshee process: gdb -p `pidof banshee`
4. Once gdb's prompt appears, get it to allow the Banshee process to continue
by typing cont
5. Reproduce the crash
6. The gdb prompt should appear. Type bt full to get the full stack trace.
Then type quit to quit gdb.
7. Copy the outputs from both terminals and save them into separate text files
8. Attach both files to this bug.

[Bug 1076976] Re: When Unity is loaded, expo exits to the workspace being pointed at (not the one highlighted)

2013-01-07 Thread John Swing
@Vincent

I understand that if you don't move your cursor you don't expect the workspace
to change, but one never only do :
- press Super-S
- press Super-S
because it's supposed to do nothing, I think one do :
-press Super-S
-move between workspace with directions key
-press enter
OR
- press super-S
- *move* the cursor
- press super-S

The workspace switcher is like its name says a workspace *switcher*. In
my opinion it would be a bad idea to remove a useful behavior to correct
a bug in a situation where you use the workspace to do nothing.

[Bug 1076976] Re: Super+S twice switch workspace depending on mouse position

2012-12-28 Thread John Swing
Hello,

For me it isn't a bug, I use everyday Super+S and the mouse cursor to
switch workspace :

- I press Super+S
- I keep the Super key down, move my mouse cursor to the desired workspace
- I press S and the desired workspace comes up.

I think it's the smoothest way to change workspace, with this way I
don't have to click on the desired workspace I just move my cursor and S
again.

I don't understand why you think of it as a bug.

John

[Bug 1090429] Re: Quiting transmission from unity bar sometimes only closes the GUI, not Transmission instance

2012-12-19 Thread John Swing
Hello,

I think it's supposed to work that way.

If you choose to activate Show Transmission icon in the notification
area in Transmission options, then when you try to quit using right-
click on the launcher it will only quit the GUI and Transmission will
stay in the background. The only way to quit Transmission completely is
by using the Transmission applet in the panel (or top bar like you
said).

If this behavior annoys you, just desactivate Show Transmission icon in
the notification area in Transmission options and you'll be able to
completely quit Transmission using right-click on the launcher's
Transmission icon (or unity bar like you said).

I hope my explanation will help you, and I think I can put this bug as
Invalid since for me it is not a bug.

[Bug 1092158] Re: Net space change after update should be shown to user

2012-12-19 Thread John Swing
I agree, I tend to use more apt-get for my updates and it shows both the amount
of data downladed and the additional disk space that will be used like :
30 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 29.4 MB of archives.
After this operation, 2,052 kB of additional disk space will be used.

It seems rightful that the update manager shows the same amount of
information as apt-get, because they are useful for any user.

[Bug 1073062] Re: RR i386 : kmod_module_builtin failed

2012-12-11 Thread John Swing
Christian, I tried your workaround and nothing has changed, I'm still
getting the error when I do sudo update-initramfs -u. Have you tried
it after the reinstall ? Because your log don't show it. Thanks

[Bug 1089015] Re: Misleading description at Adobe Flash plugin in Software Center

2012-12-11 Thread John Swing
I agree, the description in more info states that :

The Adobe Flash Player plugin will work with a range of web-browsers including,
limited to:
Firefox
Chromium
SeaMonkey
Iceweasel
Iceape
Galeon
Epiphany
Konqueror

So like Samu Mankinen said above, the short description should not limit
the plugin to Mozilla.

[Bug 1087090] [NEW] [raring]Maximized windows aren't fullscreen in the workspace switcher

2012-12-05 Thread John Swing
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Since today's updates of compiz, the workspace switcher don't work the
same way as before. When you have a maximized windows and you click on
the launcher's workspace icon, the workspace switcher appears but the
maximized windows aren't fullscreened. You can see the voids that
represent the launcher and the panel.

I attached a screenshot for a better understanding of the problem.

[Bug 1046902] Re: Ctrl C brings up This will abort the operation alert

I think Ctrl-c is the usal way to abort an operation in any linux
terminal so I don't think this is a bug. You should use instead :
select text + right click + copy
