[Bug 1550893] Re: system freezes when starting /usr/bin/webbrowser-app on 14.04
Same problem here, even worst. As soon as webbrowser starts it can freeze the desktop screen, keyboard and mouse. 1) At first I was able to login with a second system (or a smart-phone with ssh) and reboot the system, but now not even this works. 2) Amazon and other "channel" web apps depends on this so I am afraid that any Web apps that uses this can freeze the system "without notice". 3) looking at the syslog/auth.log, other than some hardware conflicts I already had before, I can't spot any traces of what is causing the problem. I suspect only this in auth.log: lightdm: PAM unable to dlopen(pam_kwallet.so): /lib/security/pam_kwallet.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory lightdm: PAM adding faulty module: pam_kwallet.so lightdm: pam_succeed_if(lightdm:auth): requirement "user ingroup nopasswdlogin" not met by user "jxxx" gnome-keyring-daemon[2194]: couldn't set environment variable in session: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files polkitd(authority=local): Registered Authentication Agent for unix- session:c2 (system bus name :1.79 [/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit- gnome-authentication-agent-1], object path /org/gnome/PolicyKit1/AuthenticationAgent, locale en_US.UTF-8) systemd-logind[723]: Removed session c1. [Bug 1600645] Re: Youtube live stream does not play.
Check if you have set a proxy host on vlc. This can cause the problem, some proxy limitation, vlc will not to play youtube video with some proxies (I tested this here). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1600645 Title: Youtube live stream does not play. [Bug 1492113] Re: Screen freeze when watching video in VLC or Firefox
update and answers to questions from jsalisbury 1) issue start happening (getting freezes) after update/upgrade, if I remember correctly, right after kernel 3.13.0-58 2) So many freezes that I had to downgrade Nvidia driver 346.82 to Nouveau for work around, so I had to trade stability instead of hardware acceleration for now. 3) with Nvidia driver 331.x also had some flash video crashes with firefox 4) please not that I am using 32bit kernel, since I am updating/upgrading from main distributions since Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release i386 (20120817.3) 5) yes I can test the a new kernel, but I need a detailed "how-to" so I can safely return to my active version if it goes bad, because this is my main desktop with many critical work/files stored on it (even with backups I must be able to recover fast). 5.1) I need to have proprietary or out-of-tree modules (ex. vitualbox, nvidia, etc.) so this could be really hard for me to do and be able to recover my prior installation, can I do a USB drive install for the tests ? Can you help me create the test USB stick ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1492113 Title: Screen freeze when watching video in VLC or Firefox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1492113/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1492113] [NEW] Screen freeze when watching video in VLC or Firefox
Public bug reported: Screen freezes when I watch video in VLC media player or viewing media on browser like Firefox. Moving mouse is of no use and Ctrl + Alt + T short cut does not launch terminal. But I Could hear the audio even after screen freeze. If I press Ctrl + Alt + F1 and wait for several minutes switches to console.
