[Bug 1754458] Re: nm-applet symbol not displayed on mate (18.04)

2018-09-26 Thread Joseph Brown
https://launchpad.net/~james-rogers-n fix, to insert dbus-launch worked
for me.

[quote]
/usr/share/mate/autostart/indicator-application.desktop

I changed the following line:

Exec=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/indicator-application/indicator-
application-service

To instead say this:

Exec=dbus-launch
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/indicator-application/indicator-application-service
[/quote]

After changing cupsd.conf had to kill all cups processes by hand to have
the change take effect.

[Bug 1051642] Re: unity 12.04LTS alt-tab, alt alt sends focus to previous app

2012-09-27 Thread Joseph Brown
This isn't a Unity 2d issue. Infact I found Unity 2d appears not to
contain the bug.

It's a Unity Issue non-2d. Didn't realize there were two distinct
Unity window managers when I wrote the bug and I didn't know what to
attach the bug report too. Is it possible to point this bug to Unity
instead of Unity-2d.

I've given up using Unity, although I like it, the focus keeps slipping
to the previous app after Alt-Tab, which makes a keyboard intensive user
less productive, and to a degree counterproductive.

[Bug 1035628] Re: Alt+Tab/Alt+grave brings other window to the front but loses focus entirely.

2012-09-27 Thread Joseph Brown
Much better, Thanks Omer! Makes Unity more usable 4 me.

The icon list that appears still needs to diminish (shade darker)
unselected apps, otherwise, it's difficult to determine which is
selected, w/out burning a extra calories discerning the difference.

[Bug 1051642] [NEW] unity 12.04LTS alt-tab, alt alt sends focus to previous app

2012-09-16 Thread Joseph Brown
Public bug reported:

I might have fast fingers, but I'm sloppy on the keyboars. I use alt-
tab frequently I also tend to tap alt accidentally afterward. This
has revealed some sort of bug in Unity.

Tap alt, you get to type a command, like that...

Alt-tab to switch to a new app, then tap alt (guess I'm a little
undecisive sometimes) and then tap alt again. Now the focus is gone...
Dunno where...

Happens after alt-tab, alt alt, just about every time.

Subsequent alt, alt, returns focus where it belongs, but that's a lot of
alt tapping, and not entirely clear, took a little while to figure out
the exact key sequence, because I wasn't intending for focus to vanish,
It may be shifting to the application alt-tab switched from.

Ahahahahah that's where it goes. Was wondering why text showd up where
it didn't belong!

-Joe

Guess it's a feature now, because it's been documented. ;)

[Bug 848823] Re: nfs-kernel-server requires a real interface to be up

2011-10-22 Thread Joseph Brown
I've run into a similar issue after upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10 on
server:

$ showmount server
Hosts on server:
192.168.111.110
192.168.111.57

By placing the following in the fstab of clients, resolved consistent
nfs halts:

server:/path /local/path nfs proto=udp

The halts were occurring consistently until I coerced it to use nfs3 AND
udp.

This could be dns issues, but had /etc/network/interfaces configured
before and after network-manager was uninstalled, did not resolve the
issue. My local nameserver /firewall does a bad job of tracking locals.
Tried placing hosts in /etc/hosts; little to no effect.

Seems like NFS keeps working on the server, nfswatch, etc, looks okay,
but clients hang as if they are not connected inconsistently.
