[Bug 776818] Re: [MIR] vde2
@Michael Terry I reported this against vde2 over a year ago. Then I was told I needed to file a MIR. The bug report you are suggesting already exists: bug 253230. Here's a line from that report, It's been open for years and lead to nothing. 1) There is clearly demand for vde2 support in KVM. 2) It's fairly simple to add. 3) Nearly all the work is already done. 4) It's sat around for years with no action. I know how hard it is to manage a public bug tracker. I've got first hand experience. I can only imagine how difficult it is to do so for an entire Linux distribution. So I feel your pain. [Bug 776818] Re: [MIR] vde2
I'm still waiting for this as well. No one seems to want to do it. Should be easy since it's already been a Debian package for several years. Just needs to be included in main and added as a build dep of kvm. No other configuration required as far as I know. Regarding kees concern about adding a daemon in main, vde_switch is very quite. It uses very little memory and almost no CPU. I haven't had any problems running it for months. Much better behaved than other daemons already in main like pulseaudio. I've been rebuilding the kvm package from source. Works fine and automatically configures vde support as long as the vde2 package is installed before the kvm package is built. I carefully read the requirements for MIR and followed directions. I would be nice to know that if you RTFM your voice will be heard. [Bug 568507] Re: Drop-down menus allow infinite scroll
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 388633 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/388633 This is not a duplicate. Bug 388633 talks about extra whitespace in the Gtk combo box. This bug is about the ability to scroll down infinitely past the end of the combo box items. If you scroll down a long way then you have to scroll back just as far to see the list of items again. This bug occurs only when either the list is so long or the window is positioned near a screen edge so that both ends of the list are not visible at once when the combo is opened. You can then scroll either up or down (depending on which end is hidden) indefinitely past the end of the combo list. However, if you scroll to the other end (i.e. the end that was not visible when the combo opened) the problem goes away until you reopen the combo. This is not a major issue but it affects a huge number of applications and makes Gtk appear broken. It is much more apparent for large combo box lists. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568507 Title: Drop-down menus allow infinite scroll To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/568507/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 776818] Re: [MIR] vde2
vde2 makes it possible to create a virtual network for your VMs. This is an important tool for cloud computing. If Ubuntu wants to compete as a cloud computing solution this is a critical piece to the puzzle. It shouldn't be much work to move vde2 into main. The package is well supported and tested. The KVM package will automatically build with vde2 support if it is added as a build dependency which can't happen until vde2 is brought in to main. I have this same problem in 11.04 Ubuntu using gnome with the xfce- terminal. I also have a number of other related screen problems when xfce-terminal is on the screen. 1) Resizing the terminal draws a black box on the top of the screen. 2) Changing themes causes xfce-terminal to redraw and create a black box at the top of the screen and/or screen garbage. 3) gnome-panel, when not in autohide, goes black when xfce-terminal is maximized. Thank you for the concerned response. I have a good idea of what it's like to be on your end because I am on other projects. I don't mean to be a whiner. Most of the reports I filed or was involved with were eventually closed with out really being resolved as Ubuntu versions progressed. [Bug 421048] Re: Black dots appear on screen
It is discouraging that the policy for many bugs is to simply wait until a newer version comes along so they can be downgraded and then closed with out any real investigation. I understand that developer resources are limited but shouldn't the bug remain 'Confirmed' until proven otherwise? This bug has been downgraded to 'Incomplete' with no evidence that the bug has been fixed other than a lack of recent reports. I think the process should be to first ask if the bug still occurs. Then if there are no updates for some time or people can confirm that the bug no longer exists in the newer version then the status can be changed. Otherwise, it puts too much burden on the bug reporters to fight for a bug's status only to be repeatedly smacked down. Particularly the original reporter should have a chance to comment before the status is changed. --- End rant --- I haven't seen this bug in awhile because I stopped using the machine it occurred on.
