[Bug 1240686] Re: Upstart overrides the user's umask

2013-12-23 Thread Keith Baker
@bab1

I think that is not a proper way to replace a package. If I install it
manually from another release cycle or even distribution, I bypass any
security updates from the apt repository.

Thanks for the hint, but I'm not eligible to nomiate for the bug.

This is just ridiculous. The damn ubuntu bureaucracy makes me want to
change distribution more and more!

BTW: A bug in the bug tracker. Notice the irony?

Changing the GTK2 theme globally makes everything look terrible. I'd suggest to
set the theme only for the affected application using the corresponding
environment variable:
 $ GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Raleigh/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
./eclipse-or-eclipse-app

Just start the programm within a terminal with the above command. Leave
out the $ and replace ./eclipse-or-eclipse-app with
eclipse/smartsvn/jameica or any other affected tool.

Tried same thing on desktop version of natty. There the problem seems
fixed.

[Bug 441653] Re: radeon graphics mode and console does not start - xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call

2010-08-24 Thread Keith Baker
The suggested solution (adding sleep 1 command to /etc/init.d/gdm.conf)
solves this bug for me.

For me the bug was introducted with kernel 2.6.35.3. It prevented GDM
from showing the login screen and any console.

I'm using a Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) and the i915-module.

[Bug 512615] Re: fonts are incorrectly rendered due to not using system cairo

2010-03-15 Thread Keith Baker
Please build Firefox with system cairo.
The current version is unusable due to the broken font rendering. Building
Firefox on one's own isn't easy as the mozilla build options aren't really self
explaining.

BTW, Thunderbird 3 from mozilla-daily is also affected.

[Bug 281993] Re: [intrepid] REGRESSION: multimedia keys no longer working

2009-02-26 Thread Keith Baker
I just upgraded to 2.6.27-12-generic #1 SMP Thu Feb 5 09:26:35 UTC 2009 i686
GNU/Linux (2.6.27-12.28) via intrepid-proposed.
Pressing some of the multimedia keys on a Microsoft Wireless Laser Keyboard
5000 does not produce key events in xev.

Did I install the wrong update since Feb 5th is a while gone?

[Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd

The problem is solved for me. I remember a kernel update in Hardy that
fixed the bug. Also in Intrepid my USB storage devices work flawless.

[Bug 115970] Re: qt4 apps doesn't start with symbol lookup error

2008-09-06 Thread Keith Baker
D4nielfree wrote on 2008-04-21: remove /opt/nessus/lib from
/etc/ld.so.conf and re-run ldconfig just solved the problem

That solves the Skype/Virtualbox/... problems, but Nessus won't start
anymore. So I didn't remove /opt/nessus/lib from /etc/ld.so.conf,
instead I deleted all qt-files (libQt*) from /opt/nessus/lib.

Now Nessus and Skype run and VirtalBox 2.0-Windows are drawn correctly.

Automount works flawless with all usb-storage devices. Errors occur only
with external harddrives.

By the way USB Controller is from SiS:

[Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd

2008-06-07 Thread Keith Baker
Seems that this bug is a duplicate of #88746.

Thanks to Eric Wick, setting autosuspend to -1 is a good workaround.

To do this at boot time you can use Robert North's suggestion in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/88746/comments/209

Cheers

[Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd

2008-06-07 Thread Keith Baker
After some testing I have to say that the problem persits.
The only way the get a reliable drive is to remove ehic_hcd.

What really bothers me is that the original bug report
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/linux-
source-2.6.20/+bug/88746/) is taged Won't Fix!

I think working external harddrives is the least thing a LTS-version can
offer!

[Bug 237760] [NEW] External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd

2008-06-05 Thread Keith Baker
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 with Kernel 2.6.24-18-generic.

When I connect external harddrives to my PC I get following error:

[ 172.085159] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdg] Write Protect is off
[ 172.085173] sdg: sdg1
[ 172.109239] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdg] Attached SCSI disk
[ 172.109292] sd 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg8 type 0
[ 339.870234] usb 4-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
[ 343.680967] usb 4-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
[ 349.223095] usb 4-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4

[ 350.286736] usb 4-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4

Sometimes next error messages like the following add to the list:
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-2: device not accepting address 3, error -110
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
usb 1-2: device not accepting address 4, error -110

If I do a sudo modprobe -r ehci_hcd the drives work at USB 1.1 speed.

The problem also occurs on this machine using Knoppix 5.2 and Knoppix
5.3.

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-05-25 Thread Keith Baker
I confirm this bug using a N70.

Installing Debian bluez-utils (3.30-3) from
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/bluez-utils doesn't solve the problem
for me.
I still can't browse the phone's file list and received files.
