[Bug 1087071] Re: Transmission uses 100% CPU when downloading any file to a encrypted home

2013-04-27 Thread Ken Johnson
I can confirm the same behaviour. Ubuntu 12.10, Transmission 2.61
(13407). Downloading a torrent to a location inside an encrypted home
directory causes constant, massive CPU utilization - bringing the entire
system almost to a halt. The problem is completely mitigated (doing the
same downloads) by moving the download destination to a directory
outside your encrypted home.

[Bug 927515] Re: Thunderbird stuck at 100% CPU

2013-04-16 Thread Ken Johnson
I can confirm the same behavior on Ubuntu 12.10, with encrypted home
directory, running Thunderbird 17.05. Thunderbird constantly using
50-100% cpu, for hours at a time, only occasionally dropping below 50%.
Creating new profiles, deleting various sqlite files, index files, etc
does not fix the problem.

However - since others have ointed out that this seems to be eCryptFS
related - I can confirm that moving my thunderbird profile to an
unencrypted directory outside of my home directory seems to solve or
at least greatly reduce the severity of the problem.

If you are able to (given the security implications), I would recommend
others to try this workaround.

[Bug 923870] [NEW] cannot access or open repositories in synaptic package manager or open update manager

2012-01-30 Thread ken Johnson
Public bug reported:

Why do have to re-install linux everytime it upgrades to something
higher than 10.04 ?

After an upgrade from 10.04 I find myself locked out of my repositories
in Synaptic and Update Manager will not come up at all when it is
selected.

My only recourse is to install it all over again ... and this last p

those closed repositories?

[Bug 496102] Re: E:dpkg was interrputed

2011-05-03 Thread ken Johnson
his same bug affects me too. I run ubuntu 10.04 and cannot use update-
manager or synaptic package manager. Also, these two prorams ask for and
reject my pass word. This never happened before, at least, inot until I
tried upgrading amarok to amarok 2.4.0.Every time upgrading to 10.10 or
11.04 is attempted, invariably I have to start over again with a new re-
install to rid my systems of its bugs or problems. Is there a list of
programs one can use to go by in de-upgrading, say, from 10.10 down to
10.04? If there is, how would I get a hold of it?

Your help in this will greatly be appreciated.

1): When I type a line, a paragraph, fill in the blanks of a form, I
expect to have clean copy. However, the machine skipoundars and needs
cleaning up before I send it on to you just like in this lineski.more

To answer your question, all I do is type comments, or type a letter and the
problem occurs.

2): I expect clean copy that I do not have to correct all the time. This
particular line required ten or

3): The problem is so acute I hate to think what would happen if. I had
to type up a term paper in linux because this problem has occurs in
every distro that has ever been installed on this computer. Intrepid was
the first distro installed, as well as Jaunty, Karmic, Lucid, and now,
Maverick. Current Op System is Shackbox Ubuntu 10.10. (Shackbox Air

up when a music button is selected. Music does not play---GXINE says

[Bug 501971] Re: After shutdown, and after re-login, amarok lost its voice, there is no audio.

2010-01-21 Thread Ken Johnson
I spoke too fast.

amarok is back up to its old tricks with a few new twists. It skips from
channel to channel --- it wont play what I want to play but what IT
wants to play. Unless I shut amarok down and then bring it back up, it
wont play. The amarok screen shows amarok as playing but there is no
audio. Yesterday, I was troubled with one segmentation fault after
another---the wizard said that the backtrace was no good and couldn't be
used. The last backtrace I ran is submitted with this report

I have put a number of updates on my computer: could this be causing
problems? Are there packages or programs that should be removed?

[Bug 501971] Re: After shutdown, and after re-login, amarok lost its voice, there is no audio.

2010-01-20 Thread Ken Johnson
amarok works, and works beautifully.

However, it is prone to have segmentation faults which happen at
intermittent times. One thing I noticed is that the backtraces are no
good and cant be used in reporting the problems to higher headquarters
for their perusal and resolution.

Because I basically know the problem I face with amarok ( code 11
segmentation faults ) and because it is a joy listening to the music on
amarok, I move to close this file. However, the KDE amarok team should
know amarok is very prone to segmentation faults ( I get about 8 a day
on average ).

[Bug 501971] [NEW] After shutdown, and after re-login, amarok lost its voice, there is no audio.

2009-12-31 Thread Ken Johnson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

I installed phonon-4.4.3 a couple of days ago and amarok worked. It was
fun working thru the playlist because everything worked as in order.
Then, I shut the computer down completely ... amarok would not work when
I turned the computer back on this AM.

Phonon-4.4.3 and amarok-2.2.2.1 were uninstalled and then re-installed
to no avail. The system is working but there is no audio to it.

[Bug 365338] Re: Couldn't start playback Internal data flow error - in rythmbox

2009-09-27 Thread Ken Johnson
Sebastien---

I have the same problem. Let's re-open this case. The same problem
arises whenever a radio station is played and you do not have to do
anything special to recreate the problem.

We have another problem with the --debug reports that needs attention
from higher-ups: The terminal report starts off with a beginning, then
it gets lost by the time the target program is terminated.

Select All does not cover the whole report because you have to scroll
the terminal report in order to Select all

COPY and PASTE do NOT get everything saved. Forty or fifty pages will be
blank which negates the value of the --debug report. Please let me know
of any procedure that gets ALL the debug report from the Terminal to the
hands of someone like yourself, the user.

Thank you for your patience

ken

[Bug 434821] Re: [rhythmbox] Segmentation fault

2009-09-26 Thread Ken Johnson
apport report does not go to the VAR/crash file and the apport file
cannot be channelized to a bug report such as this one that is already
on file.

Suggest for higher ups that bug reporting mechanism be overhauled to
edit apport report (select all, copy, etc) and enable appending bug
reports to bug reports by bug report number, e.g., in our case here,
434821.

[Bug 367558] Re: ubuntu 9.04 locks up computer on login. cant shut computer off.

2009-06-26 Thread Ken Johnson
logging in is no problem...the problem is shutting down.

It hangs up everytime at a spot that says:waiting for services to
stop:

Hitting CTRL-ALT-F1 when it is apparent that the system is hung up in a
loop brings up a screen, one line of which says Ubuntu login. This
line will not allow type-ins, the cursor is frozen in one position.

What do we do now?

[Bug 367558] Re: ubuntu 9.04 locks up computer on login. cant shut computer off.

2009-06-26 Thread Ken Johnson
Question 72380 should be rolled into this one and both resolved at one
and the same time.

The system loads up fivers on start up but, as pointed out earlier,
shutting down is a horse of a different color and, I feel, both bug
tickets should be dealt with together because of this.

What do you all think?
