[Bug 1173566] Re: 19d2:2000 ZTE HSDPA Modem MF627 MF628 not recognized by network-manager in Ubuntu 13.04

2014-01-26 Thread LJ
meanwhile I upgraded to 13.10 to get a fix for touchscreen issue in xorg (just
upgrade - no completely new install).
Sometimes I have to plug in the modem twice until it is recognized correctly,
but then it normally works.

[Bug 971018] Re: Auto-hide Unity Launcher will not reveal when mouse pushed to left side in VirtualBox or VMware

2013-09-27 Thread LJ
the same issue occurs with a touchscreen. The pressure to reveal the
launcher equals a mouse movement over the screen-edge but this is
impossible with a touchscreen or (vm window) of the some size as the
screen. There should be an option to reveal the launcher by just hitting
the edge - like the edge-gestures in compiz that work so far.

[Bug 1223739] Re: Launcher - unable to reveal Launcher under autohide after using the touch screen

2013-09-26 Thread LJ
I had this issues just after hiding the launcher, but after a restart it
seems to work.

BTW: Can anyone reveal the launcher with a touchscreen? Using edges for
showing the desktop etc. with compiz works, but no chance with the
launcher. The sensibility behavior should have an option that allows to
reveal the launcher by just moving in the edge without pulling against
it.

[Bug 1099289] Re: Touch screen stops respoding to clicking after running for a while

2013-07-27 Thread LJ
@ thaytoo: Can confirm the touchscreen suddenly works again. Mine also has a
funny side effect; if I make any further clicks after the touch screen stops
working, they will be executed some time later when it works again :D.
But this happens very infrequently - waiting so long is no option.

Would be great to see a patch in the next X-Server update - are there
any details?

Does not work for me.
I get the following error after reboot: 'The disk drive for

Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery'
I cannot continue with pressing S oder M

Can someone please give me instructions to recover the settings or just
make it boot again via the grub boot command-line?

Btw. the backlight is on full brightness now and cannot be changed - but

[Bug 1173566] Re: ZTE HSDPA Modem MF627 MF628 not recognized by network-manager in Ubuntu 13.04

2013-05-17 Thread LJ
based on bug #979697 and some others I tried the following and finally it
worked:
1. I added the modules (not sure if this is really necessary)
usbserial
option
in /etc/modules
2.picked up the matching config file (e.g. 19d2:2000 - this is the device ID)
from /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/configPack.tar.gz and added the line
ReleaseDelay=3000. Then saved the file at /etc/usb_modeswitch.d
3. finally I created a file named usb-storage.conf in /etc/modprobe.d and
copied in these lines:
# Increase the default delay to avoid conflict with usb_modeswitch

options usb-storage delay_use=3

4. Connected the usb-modem, waited about 10-15 seconds until the
internal SD-card was mounted and the the modem recognized by the modem-
manager

[Bug 1177963] [NEW] Backlight switches of on Ubuntu 13.04 boot-screen - Dell XPS12

2013-05-08 Thread LJ
Public bug reported:

Hello

I have a Dell XPS12 and the problem that the backlight gets turned off on the
Ubuntu 13.04 boot-screen.
The system starts up normally, at the grub menu the brightness is normal and as
soon as the Ubuntu boot-screen appears the brightness is set to minimal level
(what unfortunately means completely turned off).
The hot-keys work, so that I can immediately adjust the brightness and log in
to the system - but it is very annoying.
I tested 3.8.18, 3.8.19, 3.8.20 as well as mainline 3.9.0 and 3.9.1 kernel but
the bug persists. Or could it be a bug in the grub config?

Please let me know what log or config files may be helpful.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1173566] Re: ZTE HSDPA Modem MF627 MF628 not recognized by network-manager in Ubuntu 13.04

2013-04-30 Thread LJ
thanks for your work, pixolex!
This behavior exactly matches my problem.
Please feel free to assign the bug to Linux kernel (I'm not sure how to do this
- is Linux kernel bugs the right project??)
Thanks again
LJ

[Bug 1169376] Re: XPS13 backlight stopped working after update 3.8.0-18.28

2013-04-30 Thread LJ
I just tested 3.9.0-030900-generic on my XPS12 and the bug occurs again.
On the XPS 12 changing the brightness with the hotkeys always works, but
on the login-screen the brightness is set to level 0 (=backlight off)

[Bug 1159477] Re: xps 12 touchscreen issue

2013-04-28 Thread LJ
I installed the 13.04 final and also still have the problem with the touch-end
or whatever it is.
Can you use the touchscreen again, after logout and than login in to unity?
I read that the brightness-bug should be fixed with the 3.8.0-20.30 kernel;
let's hope they also worked on this bug.
I'm not that active on launchad, what about the people on the 'May be notified'
list, is there someone who should be added to the subscribers? perhaps this bug
is lost in the amount of other bugs...

[Bug 1173566] [NEW] ZTE HSDPA Modem MF627 MF628 not recognized by network-manager in Ubuntu 13.04

2013-04-27 Thread LJ
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I just had to notice that my ZTE HDPA USB Modem is no longer working in Ubuntu
13.04 - but in 12.04 it worked.
lsusb lists the device as
ID 19d2:2000 ZTE WCMA Technologies MSM MF627/MF628 HSDPA/HSUPA
but the internal flash memory as well as the modem itself are not recognized by
nautilus or the network-manager respectively.
Older workaround I found anywhere here with killing modem-manager does not work.
Please write me, which log or config files could help to fix this issue - I do
need the modem for work.
Thanks in advance!
L.J.

[Bug 1169376] Re: XPS13 backlight stopped working after update 3.8.0-18.28

2013-04-21 Thread LJ
I have the XPS12 - backlight-control is working with 3.8.0-18 and -19 but the
backlight is set to level 0 (disabled) on the login-window. The device starts
with backlight turned on and it stays active until Ubuntu is loading after the
grub screen.
If I can provide any log files or so to help solving this problem, please let
me know.

[Bug 1159477] Re: xps 12 touchscreen issue

2013-04-21 Thread LJ
I read something interesting; there seems to be a program name touchreset which
is part of the per-installed software from Dell. As known, there are or had
been also some problems with the touchscreen with Windows - changing the
priority or killing and restarting touchreset would often help to make the
touchscreen responding again.
Perhaps it would be possible to implement a reset-function into Linux which is
than executed very 30 seconds or so.

Is there any work in progress?

seen and can help to improve Ubuntu. The low activity here just makes me
thinking whether I better had reported it as a separate bug.

[Bug 1159477] Re: xps 12 touchscreen issue

2013-04-13 Thread LJ
In addition to my previous post:
it seems not to be associated with touching the menus, it just works for some
time or amount of touches and than suddenly has the touch_end issue or so.
There are still some programs like onboard that stay usable.

[Bug 1159477] Re: xps 12 touchscreen issue

2013-04-11 Thread LJ
I just installed the daily build of 13.04 (from 04-10-2013) and have the same
bug.
On the log in screen the touch works fine. When I'm logged in I can do some
touch actions e.g. start firefox, move the slider with the touchscreen and type
some text with onboard, but after touching on a menu it stops working.

[Bug 976187] Re: Compiz blur doesn't work at all (Precise)

2012-06-16 Thread LJ
Same here. I'm using a NVIDIA 7600GT and tried several driver-versions.
Blur does not work at all. Besides I have problems with a black screen after
resume from suspend or hibernation - don't know if there could be any
correlation.

[Bug 1011209] [NEW] eog crashes when navigation-keys are pressed continuously

2012-06-10 Thread LJ
Public bug reported:

Eye of Gnome 3.4.1 crashes when a navigation key like the arrow-key or
enter is pressed continuously. Pressing the keys with high frequency
works fine, but when holding the key pressed, eog shows 3-5 images and
than disappears form the screen.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04
3.2.0-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 21 16:52:17 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux

Running eog from the terminal produces this output:

[Bug 536993] [NEW] starting billard-gl locks computer

2010-03-10 Thread LJ Stewart
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

When Billard-GL is started it will lock the computer making it
necessary to hold the on/off switch and then to reboot. This happens
when any other program has been started since the last reboot before
Billard is started.

Unable to locate the release however everything is kept up to date with
the latest safe releases and updates. I think that the version may be
9.10.11.
