Now with pipewire there are not a workaround anymore, is just fully
broken and the issue continues unsolved in the upstream:

[Bug 1874161] Re: kpcli is unable to open a kdbx file if the file is locked by both a password and a key file

2022-03-08 Thread Lester Hightower
@dotancohen - The question is not "what version *forward* are Keepass v2
files (*.kdbx) supported" but instead "at which version did support
cease." The simple answer is that Keepass v2 files up to and through
version 3.1 are supported. Version 4 and beyond are not supported and
may never be.

You can read a bit about the KeePass author's changes from 3.1 -> 4.0
here: https://keepass.info/help/kb/kdbx_4.html

kpcli uses the perl module File::KeePass to operate on Keepass files.
That module does not support Keepass v2 files (*.kdbx) beyond version
3.1 and largely because the File::KeePass hasn't chosen to make those
updates. If and when File::KeePass gains that support, kpcli likely will
by default. If not, I will update kpcli to make it so, but the support
is first needed in File::KeePass. https://metacpan.org/pod/File::KeePass

[Bug 1834771] Re: No HDMI-audio after kernel 4.15.-0.50

2021-12-06 Thread Lester Carballo Pérez
@hui.wang: The problem continues with kernel 5.11.0-41-generic and the
driver radeon, that doesn't support audio components yet. Is easy to see
that ELD was not intended for the Radeon driver and implement it by
force will probably never happen as we can see here:

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-devel/2019-July/227423.html

Please, apply a patch at the Ubuntu level to disable the check of
eld_valid for the Radeon driver, because is clear that this will never
be fixed in the upstream!!!

The issue continues for the Radeon users with the kernel 5.8.0-48...
Please, can be disable the check of eld_valid for the Radeon users only?
Apparently not one in the upstream is working on a real fix for this and
it's to much time waiting for an upstream solution when there are an
easy workaround in ubuntu. This honestly does not make sense, it is the
idea that I am fine and that the wrong one need to fix it, while all the
users suffer the problem unnecessarily. That's not fair.

Re: [Bug 1874161] Re: kpcli is unable to open a kdbx file if the file is locked by both a password and a key file

2020-12-31 Thread Lester Hightower
KeepassX version 0.4.4 and earlier use *.kdb (V1).

KeepassX version 2.0.0 and higher use *.kdbx (V2).

I do now know what your problem is, but you might want to try keepass2,
keepassxc, and/or read about "Version 4 of the KDBX file format is
unsupported" here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/kpcli/files/

[Bug 1874161] Re: kpcli is unable to open a kdbx file if the file is locked by both a password and a key file

2020-09-19 Thread Lester Hightower
I am the author of kpci.

KeePassX does not support Keepass v2 files (*.kdbx), only v1 files
(*.kdb).

I suspect that you created a v1 file named foo.kdbx, which kpcli will
assume (wrongly) is a v2 file due to the kdbx file extension, and fail
to open it. An easy test would be to copy your file to one with just a
kdb extension and try to open it.

If it does, Ctl-Alt-F2 will switch back to GNOME which will remain frozen for a
while, but will allow switching back and forth with the Ctl-Alt-F# keys.

Running "top" on tty3 shows no processes taking much %CPU.
Observed a message "[TTM] Buffer eviction failed" 3 times (on tty3) while
waiting for unfreeze.

Sometimes, Ctl-Alt-F3 is also unresponsive upon freeze, but did
eventually switch to tty3 (after a about 20 seconds). This hasn't been
tested much yet.

[Bug 1885330] Re: System unresponsive to keyboard and mouse clicks when changing screen background

2020-06-29 Thread Lester Potter
In response to the last comment...
1. Run this command:

   gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

See attached

2. Open a Terminal window and run 'top'. Now reproduce the problem
again. While the problem is happening does 'top' report any process
using very high CPU?

All windows freeze. Only the cursor moves. "top" frozen.

3. Follow these instructions to check for crashes:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

/var/crash is empty
/var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id ... https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID reports
that "No errors have been reported from this system"
Applied work around for bug 994921 and got same results (no crash)

### Additional Information ###
1. In addition to becoming un-responsive, window also freeze ("top" stops
reporting while hung, Graphic applications like performance monitor also
hang/freeze).
2. The "Settings" app shows a preview, when launched, it shows the current
desktop. When selecting a different background, sometimes the preview will
update (but freezes before updating the desktop), and sometimes the preview
will not update.
3. After reboot, timing the hang, it takes about 16 minutes to become
responsive again. However, a second settings change took as little as 90
seconds. Not enough evaluation has been done to determine if other factors are
contributing to the timings (during the 90 second timing, I had tcpdump running
and I pinged the machine from another machine during the hang).
4. After reboot, running tcpdump during the hang, viewing with wireshark after
responsiveness returns, I find that there is some normal looking network
traffice, including connectivity checks outbound and normal responses received.

2020-06-26 Thread Lester Potter
Public bug reported:

Right click on screen background and choose settings.
Then click a different background.
System becomes unresponsive to keyboard input and mouse clicks.
System returns to responsiveness after about 10 minutes.

Storage: 1.82 TiB (5.5% used) Procs: 337 Shell: bash 5.0.16 inxi: 3.0.38

Expected behavior:
Changing the background happens immediately and system remains responsive to
input.

What happened:

[Bug 1769409] Re: Support for global menu

2019-02-01 Thread Lester Carballo Pérez
Yes, I discontinued the develop of that extension with base on the
repercussion of the Gnome/Gtk developers to drop the support for Gtk-
Modules in newly Gtk releases started in GTK-4.0 and upper.

For convenience the direct link to the upstream desition is here:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/issues/1132 How also Ubuntu is part
of Gnome, the desition of not support something is also his own
responsibility now and in consequence something that Ubuntu will need to
assume, not a third party like me or some one else externally.

[Bug 1714804] Re: Aardvark Daily: Indicator-Multiload doesn't show full-width

2018-09-04 Thread Lester Carballo Pérez
Well, please see i just fixed the official gnome shell extension for the
indicator-multiload. Source:

https://gitlab.com/lestcape/gnome-shell-extension-
appindicator/commit/c4cbe95502e53a3b9b89aa5ad9261e76b67987b7

Explanations:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1067766/upgrade-from-16-04-to-18-04
-indicator-multiload-doesnt-work/1068801#1068801

I think more work is needed to really support non homogeneous indicator
in general. Please note that probably the main inconsistency is that the
extension not return the indicator as the same type of actors, that is
wrong in my opinion, because cause some inconsistencies, but is easy to
fix that also.

[Bug 1769689] [NEW] Jayatana do not remember the menu items identifier, between update cycles

2018-05-07 Thread Lester Carballo Pérez
Public bug reported:

Jayatana, create a new menu items identifier any time we make an update
"sendAboutToShow". This can be traduced in a poor performance and create
a lot of noises and graphics glitches.

The idea is try to find a way to not create new menu items identifier
while the menu items are the same menu items between update cycles.

Is fixed here:

[Bug 1307657] Re: [SRU] UBUNTU_MENUPROXY should not be set in Xfce

2016-12-12 Thread Lester Carballo Pérez
We have not a chance to make the global menu really configurable per
sessions?

If we don't have UBUNTU_MENUPROXY in our environment also could be
problematic. For example, if i'm outside of unity and i want to use the
unity-gtk-module in a third-party global menu implementation.

I will need to set UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 for all root sessions, not matter
if was launched with pkexec or gksudo or sudo, because root application
have not access to the com.canonical.AppMenu.Registrar.

Then the only solution will be to set UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 in
etc/environment and then probably in /etc/profile i will need to set it
to 1 again, but of course this will have some side effect in other
sessions.

lester@lester-ThinkPad-R61:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Release:14.04

lester@lester-ThinkPad-R61:~$ apt-cache policy pkgname
N: Unable to locate package pkgname

I expect my wifi to come back on screen off or suspend and not have to
restart the computer for it to come on.

The antenna light quits blinking and stays off. I have to plug in a usb
wireless adapter to finish what I am doing and then I restart the
computer to restore built in wifi.

[Bug 1296705] Re: Amazon Prime Instant Video Does Not Work

2014-10-12 Thread Jennifer Lester
After hours and hours of searching, I just found the EASIEST solution to
get PRIME to work with 14.04. First, forget about the AMAZON icon. Go to
"Ubuntu Software Center". Click the option, "Allows usage of Silverlight
through WINE" Restart browser. Presto done. I am viewing in Firefox. I
have not yet tested in other browsers.

RE: [Bug 1191070] Re: Compaq Ipaq install lubuntu 12.04 problems

2013-06-16 Thread Lester
Hoi Steve,
Try a research on those systems with lubuntu 12.04
Compaq Ipaq systems from 2001 with chipset 815e
I did try F6 but it didnt fix the problems on those systemsall the options i
try with F6 didnt work.
Lubuntu 12.04 full installation works great with a Compaq evo D510sff systems
smootly, but lubuntu didnt install or doesnt work with Compaq Ipaq systems so
far (chipset 815e)even changing the bios to defaults or try to switch off the
acpi s3 in the bios didnt help.all the options F6 include nomodeset didnt
work, still get the black screen at almost the endof the installation process,i
think one or two minuten before you get the restarting window.i now that
because i did succesfully install it on a compaq D510Sff.

[Bug 1191070] [NEW] Compaq Ipaq install lubuntu 12.04 problems

2013-06-14 Thread Lester
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I try to install lubuntu 12.04 on the old compaq ipaq systems from 2001

One system is a celeron 800Mhz with 512ram and 20gb hdd. (install fails)
black screen

The second system is a pentium III with 512ram and 40gb hdd.(install
fails) black screen

The offline try demo install works fine, and i can see lubuntu on both
systems.

If i want to install lubuntu compleet on the systems installation it
always fails

I even check the both systems hdd but the smartfunctie shows is ok good
condition hdd,no bad sectors.

If the optical slimline drive is not correct, then the install setup is not show
right?
So i think the opticale cdrom drive is ok

what can be the problem?
i try other ways to get lubuntu on the compaq ipaq systems from the year 2001

Hope you all can help,
already thanks

regards
Lester

[Bug 926688] Re: upstart task alsa-restore has no effect

2012-12-27 Thread lester cram
Just installed Mint xfce and having same problem with maintaining sound
settings. Pulse audio wiki gives this.

Pulseaudio usually overwrites the ALSA settings- for example set with
alsamixer- at start up, even when the alsa daemon is loaded. Since there
seems to be no other way to restrict this behaviour, a workaround is to
restore the alsa settings again after pulseaudio had started. Add the
following command to .xinitrc .bash_login or any other autostart file:

restore_alsa() {
 while [ -z "`pidof pulseaudio`" ]; do
  sleep 0.5
 done
 alsactl -f /var/lib/alsa/asound.state restore
}
restore_alsa &
could not find either of these filed but appended to end of user .profile and
it works.
Would adding this to .profile programatically solve the issue

[Bug 1043031] Re: ja/zh fontconfig configuration only applied when locale is set 'natively'

2012-12-17 Thread Lester
Hi everybody ,

Maybe I found an another way to fixed the fonts without fontconfig-
voodoo.

It's all know that modifying /etc/fonts/conf.d/49-sansserif.conf can fix
the messy code in the flash Player.

Today I undesignedly changed the fonts which in 49-sansserif.conf to
system fonts (make it stay the same). It works !

The fonts become consistent.

[Bug 485710] [NEW] OODraw exports to bitmap with spell-check underlines

2009-11-20 Thread Lester
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-draw

Exporting drawing with incorrectly spelled words to bitmap leads to the presence
of those spell-checker's red curvy underlines in the resulting image.
Package openoffice.org 3.1.1-5ubuntu1

Steps to reproduce:
1)Create a new drawing
2)Insert a text area
3)Write something with misspelled words
4)Switch the spell-check on
5)Export to PNG, Jpg, whatever bitmap format.
6)Open image in the viewer

Result:
Curvy red lines are present under the misspelled words
Expected result:
The clean text without curvy underlines.

[Bug 371149] [NEW] Login Window Preferences dialog too long for S10e screen

2009-05-03 Thread Lester
Public bug reported:

I am using the Lenovo S10e with Ubuntu Netbook remix. The netbook uses
a screen height of 576 pixels. When I open the Login Window Preferences
from the Administration option the dialog is too tall for the screen.
This means I have no way to reach the buttons at the bottom of the
dialog. In the standard Ubuntu I would use Workspaces to straddle the
dialog between two. As far as I can tell the Netbook remix doesn't
offer Workspaces.

[Bug 236833] [NEW] Gcalctool's buttons are too wide in the russian locale

2008-06-02 Thread Lester
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

I don't use gcalctool often, but recently after I launched it, I was
confused with a size of the buttons. There are too wide and don't allow
to resize them. I'm using russian language locale, look at the
attachment. Thats how the main window looks like. I tried different
themes and visual styles but nothing helped.

The package is 5.22.2-0ubuntu1.
Steps to reproduce: just launch the gcalctool with the LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8 and see
what'll happen.

[Bug 190934] Re: [hardy] keyboard modifiers randomly forgotten

2008-05-18 Thread Lester
I can confirm it. Despite my keyboard settings are set in the xorg.conf,
sometimes after a login they all are screwed. An unsetting/setting the
checkbox in the modifier switcher options helps for a whole session, but
gets lost after the next login.

[Bug 219542] [NEW] Gnome session starts with errors, producing a lot of zombies

2008-04-19 Thread Lester
Public bug reported:

Hello!

Last night I updated to Hardy and now, when I login in to the gnomes
session, it takes a lot of time just to load a desktop. Finally when I'm
logged in, it shows a message that it couldn't start gnome-settings-
daemon and will try to start it during the next login. Looking into the
processes I've noticed many zombie ones. Here is an output of the ps ax
| grep Z command:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ps ax | grep Z
 6740 ?Z 0:00 [gnome-power-man]
 6741 ?Z 0:00 [gnome-power-man]
 6951 ?ZN 0:00 [totem-video-ind]
20977 ?Z 0:00 [xrdb]
20979 ?Z 0:00 [xrdb]
20984 ?Z 0:00 [gnome-settings-]
21678 pts/0R+ 0:00 grep Z
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

I reverted all the changes I did to the gnome configuration, including
custom themes and panel-applets. Also I wiped all .gnome2 and .gconf
directories from my ~/ but nothing helped.

Here is my .xsession-errors, hope it will be usefull.

[Bug 158334] Re: Evince segfaults trying to open the pdf file

Well thanks for the explanation. I thought the file is ok since Xpdf and
Kpdf open it correctly as I said. Anyway I tried to debug evince but gdb
suddenly returns to console saying something like "the program caught
SIGTTUI" and repeats that anytime I type fg or cont. Can anybody explain
to me what's wrong with the GDB?

Tomorrow I will install a -dbg version of Evince, maybe I need

well, it's me again. I've noticed the way firefox crashing. After some
time it stops to respond on clicking a URL. It looks like that firefox
starts to load a page after a clicking on a URL, but doesn't render it,
and stays on a previous page. Then when I close it, it generates a crash
report. The new launching does the same.
