Affects me too on an Asus N43SL with nvidia GeForce GT540M. The extra screen is detected both by nouveau and the nvidia proprietary driver. I'm now using a mainline 4.17rc6 kernel, and it looks like ACPI errors are gone, however nouveau will still make my system unstable, causing a freeze on using `lspci` and on graphical login. Let's try to let nouveau turn off the dGPU with a mainline 4.17rc6 kernel, probably available as DEB packages tomorrow (21/05/2018) from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/. See this PR: https://lkml.org/lkml/2018/5/18/159 It includes an ACPI fix critical for Optimus laptops (making the acpi_osi and acpi_rev_override workarounds obsolete). @Stefan: When you're using nouveau.runpm=-1, nouveau is always used to dynamically power down the card. @Alain What's you graphics card? nouveau.runpm=-1 is the default setting for nouveau on Optimus systems. If the graphics card is not used, it will be powered down after 5 seconds iirc. As you did, this can be forced in the kernel boot parameters. Unfortunately, with this setting, systems with recent graphics cards (GTX 10xx series) will not reach a usable desktop after login, and end up with a black screen. Unfortunately, nouveau makes laptops with a Pascal dGPU (GeForce 10xx series) really unstable. For example my Dell XPS 9560 with a GTX 1050 won't boot without "nouveau.runpm=0". With "nouveau.runpm=0", boot will be slow, and multiple freezes with a recovery a few seconds later will occur after graphical login. The system remains sluggish even as the iGPU is used. See: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100228 (there might be other bugs affecting general stability with Pascal dGPUs) If I blacklist nouveau completely (both as a kernel boot option and in /etc/modprobe.d/), the system will function normally, but the dGPU will stay on. I'm affected in the same way as lauricat: wifi reconnects after resuming from suspend (I have Internet access), however only an unknown ethernet connection icon is displayed by the network manager applet (while no ethernet cable is connected to my laptop), and the list of available wifi networks is absent from the network manager applet menu. Hi Raja, You don't actually need to click or tap the touchpad. Just use it like you would do in normal use. After a random amount of time (30 sec to 3 hours or more), it WILL hang, i can assure you. Freeze will happen while you move your finger on the touchpad. This is hard to reproduce in a lab because the amount of time is random, and it can take a very long time. But it will. That's why only people who actually use nvidia-prime on a daily basis see this bug. [Bug 1220426] [NEW] [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad
Public bug reported: I'm using an Optimus laptop (Asus N43SL) nvidia-prime is installed, so my nvidia dedicated graphics card (GT 540m) is in use. Once in a while, my screen will freeze, only when I use my touchpad. This does not happen with my USB mouse. This does not happen either when I uninstall nvidia-prime and use my intel integrated graphics (HD3000). I can temporarily solve the issue by doing a VT switch. This bug is definitely not fixed for me ( Ubuntu 13.04, Unity 7.0.0daily13.06.19, Wine 1.6). Many wine games running in a virtual desktop have the unity panel and unity launcher shown on top of them (actually, on top of wine virtual desktop, and the game window itself is off to the bottom by the exact unity panel height, and trimmed on the lower edge). This does not happen in gnome-shell. So, to reproduce this : 1) configure wine 1.6 to run a virtual desktop, with your exact screen resolution 2) start a Windows version of any recent Unreal Engine game in wine (XCOM ; Enemy Unknown, Dishonored...) Same bug in updated Ubuntu 12.10 : 1) Wine is set to start apps in a virtual desktop (set to my native resolution). 2) I start Steam, the Unity top panel is hidden. 3) I start XCOM : Enemy Unknown or any other game (Bioshock, Supreme Commander 2, all Source Games), the Unity top panel appears again, on top of the game window, which is offset to the bottom of the screen by the height of Unity panel. The issue does not appear when not using virtual desktop. But XCOM only runs in a virtual desktop. I have a notice on this bug : - if the window was already decorated when scale is triggered, the title bar in scale mode can be clicked to select the window. This is obviously a correct behaviour. - if the window was undecorated (ie : maximized) when scale is triggered, the title bar cannot be clicked to select the window. It seems wrong to me. I configured this MP3 player to use the mass storage protocol (MSC, not MTP). 1) I connect the MP3 player to the computer : it mounts as usual 2) I start Rhythmbox, Rhythmbox detects the MP3 player normally 3) I try to transfer (drag and drop) a few tracks to the MP3 player : Rhythmbox shows a porgress bar in the status bar, then stops 4) Still in Rhythmbox, if I click on Cowon J3 list item (left pane), it shows the tracks on the MP3player 5) I eject the player : Ubuntu throws me a write error, the player is unmounted. 6) If itry to reconnect it, nothing can be written again on the disk, rhythmbox (even after a restart) doesn't write anything on it after drag and drop, nautilus shows write errors. Some files appear with odd signs in their names, the file system switches to read only if i try to move or delete files, it globally seems corrupt. The MP3 player OS refuses to play transfered tracks. 7) I cannot format the player, disks utility complains (error message the disk stopped responding after initial wipe). After that, i have to format (FAT32, MBR) the MP3 player in Precise (Ubuntu 12.04) to get it working again. It works perfectly fine in Ubuntu 12.04, Rhythmbox or Nautilus transfers work fine, I can move and delete files. So I'm absolutely sure there is nothing wrong with this MP3 player. But somehow, Ubuntu 12.10 corrupts its file system when i try USB tranfers. This a test program by Henri Verbeet. According to its author : It prints the mouse coordinates to the terminal, you mostly care about delta for this bug. Press 'C' to enable / disable clipping, press 'W' to warp the mouse. I disabled DynamicTwinView in the Xorg configuration file, disabled Compiz refresh rate detection, and i did set it manually to the real refresh rate (60fps). The bug is still not fixed : I'm still getting half the fps i have in Gnome Shell and Unity 2D. I experienced this bug in Natty, but the situation changed in Oneiric. The desktop now shows corruption after a suspend/resume cycle : the Unity Launcher and Panel are not pixelated, but the desktop is. If I open a new window, the window seems to appear behind the pixelated layer. If I use the expo plugin in compiz, the effect appears behind this layer too. The only way to get rid of this is to restar Xorg. I don't know if this is a related problem, but Unity lacks latin collations variants: when you type unaccented characters in place of their accented equivalent ones, Unity doesn't behave as expected. In French, if you search for the video player : you start typing lecteur vid and Unity finds Lecteur vidéo. Could you please define what is a black screen ? I experience this bug, but sometimes, the screen of my laptop (a Dell XPS m1330 with nvidia graphics) does not wakes up ! It just black AND switched off, while the hard drive, wifi and bluetooth LEDs are blinking (as usual). Trying to switch VTs doesn't do anyting, but typing my password makes me ear the ubuntu welcome sound. Sometimes, I only get a black AND switched on screen (but it's blank).
