On a different Ubuntu 22.04 system I DO NOT reproduce the problem. pcscd was working fine with no extra manual operation. This time I used a real laptop and not a virtual machine. But that should not have an effect. You are right. It looks like a problem with the ActivKey device. I don't see what change could have created this regression. First, do not use virtual machine. They often make the things more complex to debug. The second time the reader responds very quickly with an error. I don't think the driver can do much to solve that. Nice catch Martin! The best would be to ask systemd what directory to use. So the same code can be used on Ubuntu and Debian. This file is a conffile and is not managed like the other files of a package. A local modification is not overwritten unless explicitly accepted by the admin. I guess you edited the file and refused to upgrade it during the install of a newer version of pcscd. pkrishn6, libccid is using libusb. libusb is using a generic USB kernel driver. I do not remember its name. Another option is to add an option to tell pcscd to remove a USB reader. I have no idea what is happening. I suspect a reader firmware bug. I do not see the pcscd crash in this log. It means that the driver is working correctly. It also means that the card is dead or is not a _smart_ card.
