I do not use GnuPG with a smartcard. So I don't know which configuration
is more stable.

[Bug 1971984] Re: pcscd 1.9.5-3 do not start automatically, only manual

2022-05-18 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
I reinstalled Ubuntu 22.04 in another VM (still using VirtualBox) and I do NOT
get the problem.
So it is not related to the hardware (I was expecting this result).

Strange.

2022-05-17 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
On a different Ubuntu 22.04 system I DO NOT reproduce the problem.
pcscd was working fine with no extra manual operation.

This time I used a real laptop and not a virtual machine. But that should not
have an effect.
The problem may not be easy to understand.

[Bug 1971984] Re: pcscd 1.9.5-3 do not start automatically, only manual

2022-05-06 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
I just made a fresh install of Ubuntu 22.04.
For an unknown reason pcscd.socket is DISABLED.
$ systemctl status pcscd.socket
○ pcscd.socket - PC/SC Smart Card Daemon Activation Socket
 Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/pcscd.socket; disabled; vendor preset:
enabled)
 Active: inactive (dead)
   Triggers: ● pcscd.service
 Listen: /run/pcscd/pcscd.comm (Stream)

To solve the problem you can do:
sudo systemctl enable pcscd.socket

Then reboot, or run "sudo systemctl start pcscd.socket".

It looks like you (also) have a problem with qemu.

pcscd 1.9.1-1 is from Ubuntu 21.04. But you are using Ubuntu 21.10.
Maybe you should first use something like:
apt update
apt upgrade

[Bug 1892559] Re: [MIR] ccid opensc pcsc-lite

2021-05-03 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
opensc-pkcs11.so is a PKCS#11 lib so the its API conforms to the
standard defined in https://docs.oasis-
open.org/pkcs11/pkcs11-base/v2.40/os/pkcs11-base-v2.40-os.html

If you are looking for .h header files you can use:
https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=55655_abbrev=pkcs11
https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=55656_abbrev=pkcs11
https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=55657_abbrev=pkcs11

pkcs11-spy.so is a spy/debug library. It uses the same API.

A PKCS#11 library is, in general, dynamically loaded using dlopen(3). So
the dependency is not visible from an application using the library (for
example Firefox).

If you really need to move opensc-pkcs11.so & pkcs11-spy.so in a subdir
I would recommand to use /usr/lib/*/pkcs11/ as it is already the case.

[Bug 1879960] Re: pcscd doesn't support ActivKEy SIM B/N: 0945423

2020-05-29 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
The fact that the LED is green then goes to red after a few seconds is
completely normal.
See https://ludovicrousseau.blogspot.com/2010/10/card-auto-power-on-and-off.html

The fact that you get "PowerUp failed" errors is NOT normal.
It is a hardware issue with the card and/or the reader.

That is why I asked you to try with another smart card.

On my side I tried with current version of pcsc-lite and libccid and I
have no problem with my ActivIdentity Activkey_Sim device.

[Bug 1879960] Re: pcscd doesn't support ActivKEy SIM B/N: 0945423

2020-05-27 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
You are right. It looks like a problem with the ActivKey device.
I don't see what change could have created this regression.

First, do not use virtual machine. They often make the things more complex to
debug.
Second, try to re-install a previous version of Ubuntu to check it was working
fine.

from your log I can see when you removed the device:
0016 [139787462866688] ccid_usb.c:857:WriteUSB() write failed (1/10): -4
LIBUSB_ERROR_NO_DEVICE

Your problem is that reader can not power up the card after the reader is
inserted again.
0003 [139787471259392] ifdhandler.c:1221:IFDHPowerICC() PowerUp failed

What is strange is that the first time the card power up is very slow but works
fine.
The second time the reader responds very quickly with an error.

I don't think the driver can do much to solve that.
Do you have the same result if you use a different smart card?

winscard_msg.c:372

The file descriptor value is 1024. This is the default maximum number of opened
file for a process.
You can check that using "ulimit -n".

The GNU libC then aborts the call, but your backtrace does not indicate
the name of the function that is aborted. I guess it is send(2).

Using more than 1024 opened files is NOT normal. I really suspect a bug in the
proprietary PKCS#11 library /usr/local/AWP/lib/libOcsCryptoki.so
You can increase the limit using "ulimit -n 2000" just to see what happens.

Jalakas, please install the package libpcsclite1-dbg and generate a new
backtrace.

I suspect a bug in the proprietary PKCS#11 library

I do not plan to fix a bug in Ubuntu 14.04 only. Ubuntu 14.04 should be

The best solution may be to upgrade your system.

2018-12-12 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
Nice catch Martin!

The best would be to ask systemd what directory to use. So the same code
can be used on Ubuntu and Debian.

I was not able to find a way to ask systemd where the unit files should be
installed :-(
Any idea?

pcscd version 1.8.10 is from Ubuntu 14.04, an old Ubuntu version.

Johnny, you can disable support of the Broadcom device.

- Get the source code of the libccid driver from
https://alioth.debian.org/frs/?group_id=30105#title_ccid.
- edit the file readers/supported_readers.txt
- remove the line "0x0A5C:0x5800:Broadcom Corp 5880"
- run the commands
$ ./configure
$ make
$ make install DESTDIR=/tmp/ccid
$ sudo cp /tmp/ccid/usr/lib/pcsc/drivers/ifd-ccid.bundle/Contents/Info.plist
/etc/libccid_Info.plist

[Bug 1551897] Re: Excessive CPU utilization

2016-03-01 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
It looks like https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=812087

Can you rebuild pcscd with hotplug debug enabled. No need to install
pcscd so you can't break your installation.

1. Get the source code of pcsc-lite, for example from
https://alioth.debian.org/frs/?group_id=30105_id=2019#pcsclite-_1.8.15
-title-content

2. install the build dependencies using:
$ sudo apt-get build-dep pcscd

3. edit the file PCSC/src/hotplug_libudev.c and change the line 66 from
#undef DEBUG_HOTPLUG
to
#define DEBUG_HOTPLUG

4. configure pcsc-lite using "./configure"

5. run pcscd using:
$ sudo ./src/pcscd -dfa

6. try to reproduce the 100% CPU consumption problem

This may generate a lot of logs if the problem is with libudev.

[Bug 1311273] Re: O2 Micro OZ776 not working with libccid 1.4.15-1

2015-06-08 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
I guess the problem is because of the patch in
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pcsclite/CCID.git/commit/?id=81c82c8852010f362bb48968b4f5df27a4789a48

To be sure just revert the above patch in the driver and try with the
patched driver.

This change has been introduced in version 1.4.15 of the CCID driver.
Drivers up to 1.4.14 should work with your reader.

2015-06-02 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
Tim, thanks for the traces.

Can you generate the same traces using libccid 1.4.12-1 or whatever version was
working?
I need to understand how it was working with an old driver.

[Bug 1436799] Re: pcsc-lite does not start double free or corruption

2015-03-26 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
Try to do:
- remove the scmccid driver (remove the /usr/lib/pcsc/drivers/scmccid.bundle
directory)
- install the libccid driver

And report here if that works.

2015-03-26 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
I could not find a Ubuntu package providing the
/usr/lib/pcsc/drivers/scmccid.bundle driver to reassign the bug.
So closing the bug.

[Bug 1409081] Re: /etc/init.d/pcscd works only at first start.

2015-01-10 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
This file is a conffile and is not managed like the other files of a
package.

A local modification is not overwritten unless explicitly accepted by
the admin. I guess you edited the file and refused to upgrade it during
the install of a newer version of pcscd.

I will close the bug.

2015-01-09 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
pcscd version 1.8.10-1 should have:
# create $IPCDIR with correct access rights
if [ ! -d $IPCDIR ]
then
rm -rf $IPCDIR
mkdir $IPCDIR
fi
chmod 0755 $IPCDIR

Maybe you should reinstall your pcscd package.

[Bug 787451] Re: pcscd spams to syslog and kern.log after enabling smartcard reader in VMWare Workstation

2014-10-26 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
pkrishn6, libccid is using libusb. libusb is using a generic USB kernel
driver. I do not remember its name.

Another option is to add an option to tell pcscd to remove a USB reader.
Maybe you can send a fake unplug udev event.

Does the SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault happens inside
udev_monitor_receive_device()?

In that case can you update libudev?

[Bug 1366152] Re: System crash when Vasco-card-reader is plugged in at powerup

2014-09-06 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
LogCardReader%40Powerup.txt indicates that the device is not responding
correctly:
0024 - 00 65 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
05000412 ccid_usb.c:751:WriteUSB() write failed (1/4): -7 Resource temporarily
unavailable

-7 is LIBUSB_ERROR_TIMEOUT
So the device is not visible at the PC/SC level. I have no idea what is
happening. I suspect a reader firmware bug.

I do not see the pcscd crash in this log. Can you run pcscd inside gdb?
$ gdb /usr/sbin/pcscd
(gdb) set args -dfa
(gdb) run
remove the reader do make pcscd crash
(gdb) backtrace

Then send me the complete gdb trace.
Thanks

[Bug 1350425] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 ACR38 card reader. Says card is not found in java applet

2014-08-26 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
You log pcsc_scan output show that the card is working since the ATR is
returned.
I guess it is a bug in your Java program or a mis-configuration.

You can use http://ludovicrousseau.blogspot.fr/2010/06/pcsc-sample-in-
java.html to check your Java runtime is working.

It means that the driver is working correctly.
It also means that the card is dead or is not a _smart_ card. Or that you
insert the card in a wrong way.
